I think he is as good as gone. I'd love to see him in LA, but I see him and Leonard leading the next generation of the Spurs...

Report: If Kevin Love leaves Cavaliers, Lakers are team to beat in free agency
    Dan Feldman - Apr 27, 2015, 10:24 AM EDT

Kevin Love‘s fit with the Cavaliers has been far from perfect.

Terrible? No. But on and off the court, there have been several examples of a player and team uncomfortable with each other.

Love has a player option for next season he should decline, whether or not he wants to stay in Cleveland. If he opts out, that would give other teams an opportunity to pitch him.

The Lakers have been rumored as a contender for months, and the C Bags are reportedly interested.

    Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

For as much as Kevin Love has publicly resisted the discussion of free agency this season, it has been on his mind. He has never been completely comfortable in Cleveland, with his role, nor his connection to those around him. Throughout the year, league sources say, one destination grew in possibility as his exit strategy: The Boston C Bags.

Boston has been no sure thing to lure Love, but it had a better shot than most had believed. If Love left the Cavaliers, the C Bags had closed the gap on the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Obviously, Love getting injured against the C Bags throws a dent in Boston’s hopes of luring Love – because Love accused Kelly Olynyk of hurting him on purpose. Olynyk denied that and said he’s trying to contact Love, and maybe Love comes to believe Olynyk once tempers cool.

But the incident also might help the Cavaliers keep Love. They definitely had his back yesterday, and that’s on the heels of LeBron James showing a deeper understanding of Love’s challenges in Cleveland. This could strengthen Love’s bond with his current team.

On the other hand, if Love misses significant time, and the Cavaliers get bounced from the playoffs sooner than expect, this could be a lost opportunity for Love to strengthen a deeper connection with the Cavaliers. Ditto if he misses the rest of the playoffs, no matter how far Cleveland goes.

I expect the C Bags, who pursued Love last summer after his trip to Boston, to remain interested. I wouldn’t completely rule them out, either – but Sunday hurts their chances.

For the Cavaliers, it could go either way depending what happens next. I don’t think Love has made up his mind about his future, and he shouldn’t yet.

The Lakers, meanwhile, wait – one Love suitor downgraded and his current team still trying to prove its value to him.

This will be interesting to track the next couple of months. For all the negative talk on our front office, Mitch has pulled off a number of big time moves and I just have this feeling one of them is coming this summer. Also, there's just been so much smoke for much concerning Love coming to LA. We will see, but I think the odds of signing him are still in our favor.

I'm not sure the exact number, but I think this is the last year of their deals with Parker, Duncan, etc. I'm guessing they will try to bring in Aldridge and then resign everyone else on the cheap.

It sort of depends depend on Ginobili and Duncan. I'm reading the Spurs forum right now, and this is what I'm getting.

    1. Assuming Duncan/Ginobili don't retire and they retain Green/Kawhi, I think they have around $13 million. That is most likely not enough to get LMA.
    2. They would have to let go of a piece (like Danny Green) to throw the max at LMA.
    3. However, a lot of Spurs fans don't want to let Danny Green go. They'd rather keep him and just retool than lose him and potentially get LMA. If they were to throw the max, they'd prefer to get Marc.
    4. They hate Tony Parker's contract and think he's the worst defensive PG in the league. Danny Green has been "covering" for him for years, which is why they really don't want to let him go.

    Spurs cap room....

    Parker - 13.4
    Splitter - 8.5
    Diaw - 7.5
    Mills - 3.6
    Leonard - 4.4 cap hold
    Baynes - 2.6 cap hold
    Joseph - 3.03 cap hold
    Anderson - 1.14
    1st rounder - 1
    3 cap holds - 1.5

    Total - 46.67 million

Cap space left - 21 million (Could have ~25 if they renounce Baynes and Joseph)

That's not counting the cap holds of Ginobili, Duncan, Green. Green's is the one that probably matters the most, since Ginobili/Duncan aren't going anywhere.

Essentially what THK said. If Duncan and Ginobili come back, forget about LMA. If they retire, they can get LMA, but Green would have to come back at 4-5 million.

Does anyone think Dallas may be looking to pick up Aldridge to replace Chandler? They would theoretically have the cap space.

    Dallas cap space....

    Most they can have...

    Parsons - 15.36
    Dirk - 8.33
    Harris - 4.05
    1st round pick - 1.2
    8 cap holds - 4

    Total - 32.94

Almost 35 million in cap space. This is assuming they let Chandler, Rondo, Barea go in FA and Ellis, Felton, Aminu decline their player options.

They could definitely get LMA (18.9) in FA and bring back Ellis (10) and fill out the roster with the remaining 6 million (Aminu, Barea).

Definitely a legit option. Cuban doesn't land the big fish though, so there is nothing to worry about.

So if they want Aldridge it would be without Duncan, Ginobli and Green? Also isn't Kawhi a FA? Don't they have to sign him too?

I didn't expect Aldridge to be in play at all this upcoming off season. I kind of figures Love would; although, that didn't take a genius to figure it out.

RE: Aldridge lives in Southern California in the off season. We have room to offer a max contract, the city of Los Angeles, an opportunity to start 'his' own team, and a big market. I think we would need one impact player/All Star to sway him.

RE: Love. Wants to be here if not in Cleveland. Can offer max money. Girlfriend lives here. Could potentially recruit Durant and or Westbrook the following season. I heard he's friends with both...

Correct. Unless Green comes back on the cheap. Kawhi is a RFA, making his cap hold only 4.4 million, which means the Spurs can sign other players and then can sign Leonard and go over the cap.

If Atlanta loses their FAs, Love would make a lot of sense there. Can shoot, spread the floor, team player, don't have to run plays for him, and gives them a rebounding edge they could desperately. I'd much rather that happen vs. him winding up in a Lakers jersey.

I'm still of the mind that any addition is a welcome one this summer. We simply need all the top level talent we can get. If we get Love I ain't complainin'.

I'd still rather get a center or a wing, but gimme whatever we can get.

I am starting to lead towards wanting neither of those guys. Aldridge is going to be on the wrong side of 30 when his contract starts. Love is hurt...again. He is starting to become a question mark as it pertains to availability at any given time.

I do not think Aldridge considers the Lakers though. Lillard is better than anything on our roster by a pretty wide margin. Even if our youngins pan out (say we draft Winslow), Winslow, Clarkson and Randle are still 2-3 years away from being a championship level supporting cast, if they ever even become one. Aldridge is not going to leave a playoff team at his age that has a young star pg to come to a team that would likely take at least 2 years to become competitive.

Let's not forget, the Blazers will have a nice amount of cap room even after resigning Aldridge this offseason. Even more if Afflalo opts out. Maybe they go after Carroll to fill in the Matthews spot? Resign Lopez or maybe Asik?

    Lopez
    Aldridge
    Carroll
    Afflalo
    Lillard

That's a real nice starting five. Will be very competitive for the remainder of Aldridge's tenure there.

A lot of whether or not we are able to attract people like Aldridge or even Love may lie within our intentions with that pick. If we trade that pick for a veteran, Aldridge then probably looks at our team with more interest.

That's not true for me. I'd welcome Love, Aldridge, Dragic, or even Rondo (for a very specific price of course). I just feel like we have too many greater needs.

For instance say the most likely thing happens and we pick 5th and get a wing player. Do we need another PF? We've already got Randle and now we drafted a wing who will need time. Someone will either get pushed to the bench or we're playing very small ball all the time. I'd still be fine trying to make it work, but we have other needs.

I guess we like 20 win seasons. Lol. Either way, agreed with @real deal. I don't care who we get; I am sick of losing...

Yeah I mean just get us the best available player and figure it out later. We need some top shelf talent and there's no denying some of the talent out there. If we end up with 6 good power forwards, oh well we'll win more games than we're winning now.
