Jordan Clarkson Discussion: Sky's the limit!

I think if Clarkson would have played all season and had been taken in the top 10, he would have been in the ROY conversation. It's kind of like College Football Rankings. If you start unranked (akin to being picked in the second round) it takes a lot more to make your way into the top 3-4. Clarkson would definitely go top 10 if the draft were held again. Let's keep in mind though. Clarkson probably doesn't make the all rookie first team if there wasn't a rash of injuries to top picks (Embiid, Randle, Parker).

 

Yeah there was some help getting him a spot, but none of those spots are guards. He outplayed just about every guard in the draft outside of maybe Payton. Smart is a defensive specialist but Clarkson was better in every other aspect.

 

Agreed...Clarkson does not have Paul's tendencies persona wise. Nash tutored him on how to keep his dribble alive and look up to survey the floor. Bryant has talked to him about maintaining mental toughness. Paul? Clarkson probably looks up to him and with Scott no less as his ex-coach likely wants to see how he runs the offense...annoying nits aside. Also from what I've read Paul and he know each other before so there is some sort of connection there.

Overall, I like the kid's moxie and determination. Clarkson will improve further with more experience as he adjusts to The League. Hell, when opposing coaches are starting to notice his impact and a defensive stalwart like Tony Allen has to be called on to slow him...Clarkson is just about there.

 

^Diamond in the rough. I think Clarkson will be more than just good. He'll be a solid complementary piece if he keeps it up. Clarkson won't be a "superstar" per se but with his work ethic the potential is very appealing. The latter means nothing without the work. Example: Wesley Johnson. I still see Clarkson as a Ron Harper Lite.
