Would you want to come to a team where you are told to run basketball operations...except you can't hire your own right hand man? This man also has Kobe-armor so he can't even be fired later on if he royally s***s the bed. Also, the guy who will mold your team into the playstyle you envision? Nope. Just got a 3-year contract. Can't touch him. Not only that, the next 5 years after that go to one of his assistants...who happens to be a violent criminal that also drives drunk and stabs people in the back if they happen to walk in front of him. But it's the Lakers! We have history!

I don’t think this is some tinfoil positive spin.

    It’s the logical explanation.

If Vogel thinks he’s being set up for failure to be supplanted by Kidd, I doubt he takes this job and completely destroys any chance of having a future in coaching.

He’s betting on himself. And it’s not a particularly crazy bet. We were almost a good team in spite of Luke’s deficiencies last year if it wasn’t for injuries. If we start the season healthy and have a solid off season of acquisitions, we’ll likely be in a good position naturally to the point where it would be too bad of a look to fire a coach who is succeeding.

Vogel can ride the coattails of Lebron and if we can even have a conference finals appearance than Vogel pretty much guarantees he’ll either be able to maintain a future here if that success continues, or that he’ll find another job elsewhere once his time here is up.

Exactly. Vogel is betting on just one of the Kyrie or Kawhi rumors being true. With just one of those coming to fruition, Vogel becomes the coach that ends our 43 year playoff drought, and probably leads us to the Western Conference Finals...at minimum. If Durant leaves, and the player that comes is Kawhi, we are a legit championship team. No one will much care that he had 2 of the top 5 players on the roster.

    ok, we'll keep all y'all

I was hoping to thin the ranks a bit, but I guess other forces were at play.

    I blame Linda.

I’ll keep supporting this team regardless, but, for what was supposed to be a great season, it has honestly been worse than any of the preceding tanking ones.

    Small update after I landed:

Kurt is having a tough time getting control in the front office with this new coaching staff. Linda is helping orchestrate a situation where Kurt ends up as an assistant as a backup plan. It's a Sunday so little is happening - this is all from yesterday. More developments to come soon.

    Best,
    Mr. Rambis

You trying to get him killed, man? He went into witness protection for a reason, and he’s clearly sold his new identity so well that until now no one has been able to break through its brilliance.

Completely agree and most data will back this up.

Hopefully we will trip over a good offense guy to join the staff.

@Helljumper I tried to PM most long time members, and I apologize if I missed you. Strange personal situation prompted the change, and my apologies for that. It's probably blown over, but when your account password was known to someone in your past not doing well mentally, and the account was under an email no longer in use and the password couldn't be changed, I didn't feel I had much choice. Hopefully the unhealthy stalking is a thing of the past and they've moved on. But yeah, I prefer that it's not brought up and searchable by username. if you don't mind editing your post, that would be cool to exclude any hint of s-i-r-r-o-n, etc. I've deleted any accounts I had related to that username, and changed all passwords, etc and hoping that helped that person not to have stuff to needlessly obsess over. Small price to pay, and I'm thankful to still be here. This was done with the boss's permission. Thanks.

OMG, this part of bball breakdown is concerning. How can our FO screw up the Lue hire so bad? Our “going out and interviewing the best” turned into a joke.

If stacked up against current active head coaches, Vogel’s offensive optimization rating is better than only one name… Luke Walton. Even if his two Orlando years are written off as tanking seasons, he’s right around that same range. From the data, Vogel’s offense appears to be a clear weak area.

I really hope he fills out the rest of his staff with offensive guys and not Rambis. Our defense wasn't the worst with Luke but man were some of his offensive sets maddening, I hope that trend doesn't continue.
