I wasn’t trying anything, I don’t know why people sometimes feel the need to come back at people like they’re being attacked here or this is some “gotcha” game. [IMG] When I asked “such as?” I was genuinely asking, because all I’ve ever seen from him is stuff like Khmrp said, 50/50 stuff you look smart if you get right, and can say “oh it didn’t work out but my sources had it then” if you don’t. He also said this regarding the Pat Riley thing, and it feels very much like patting yourself on the back, and his isn’t the first account I’ve seen operate this way that disappeared in time after many wrong predictions.

So again, because you didn’t answer my question, what Laker news has he been breaking for a while, especially before Woj and Shams?

I’m upset because Linda is in no way qualified to have input into who we should hire as a coach. There is absolutely no reason for her to sit in on that interview. Being married to a basketball player and best friends with an owner are not qualifications.

I'm a big Logo fan and I'm not opposed to Ryan taking up the mantle, LT. But I just used it to point out the discrepancy with the disapproving contingent here.

Riles, one of the best Laker coaches ever, was hired from within. He was working radio. What were his qualifications?

Logo was one of the best Laker GMs ever...what were his qualifications?

We hear all the noise on Rob, but he was a successful agent and when it comes to dealing with other agents and team officials, he's qualified. I'm going to give him time to see this through. But some of y'all are eager to move on cause the media has alluded to it.

You got Harris and Jeanie in the meeting with Monty today. In terms of bball acumen, they probably are limited compared to their counterparts...but they are killing it with marketing. Our product has been trash, but our brand remains. At the very least Linda has helped there.

So again, if we're trying to sell Monty on our approach...if we're trying to pick up qualities in Monty to sell to the fans, why are so many fans pissed at Linda being there?

Weez, I'm using aLOT of hyperbole...uh you seen the board of late haha? I mean even you are using words like "forever" and the application of CAPS to drive a point.

Everybody is seeing it the way they want to see it...and the reason is we don't have the full details on anything yet. Till then, I guess everything is hyperbole or hyperbull-e depending on how you look at it.

If we lock up Monty and Phx loses out on him...will Linda get any credit? But if we lose out on him, Linda probably gets the bulk of blame along with Jeanie, right?

If you mean I used the term basketball will be ruined forever if the Rockets win the title, I’m half joking, of course that’s hyperbole or exaggeration, that’s me trying to be funny in bleak circumstances. I think the hyperbole you used was a bit different in that you’re exaggerating things others have supposedly said like the Clippers rule LA now and Kawhi is a lock to go there. But that’s fine, we can indeed look at it however we choose to. Also, I only really use caps to emphasize a point when I’m too lazy to hit the italics button, like when I’m typing something out on my Samsung tablet (I am so bad on a Samsung keyboard compared to an apple one). That’s all that is, if you see caps I’m not shouting or something, I’m using it in place of italics which the only point of is to put stronger emphasis on a certain word so my point comes across clearer.

Weez, I'm optimistic of our outlook due to our cap. People continue to make fun of it, but the cLips have done it, NYs done it, BKs done it and heck even Chicago is trying to get 3m off their books. All the big market cities know something about free agency. So folks continue to mock the cap approach, but it is by far the quickest and most practical way to contention along with drafting well and being lucky.

Everybody is playing the trash the Laker card...and you know me, I play devil's advocate and want to discuss the other side of things...so I guess Robs my guy for now...hoo-ah!

But I'm with nearly all you guys in that I'm hating the leaks and how we look right now. Still...for the media it's s***ting season and till we get back on the throne, they trying to give us more to read while we're on the throne.

I'm not buying any of the bulls*** till it's confirmed. If Jeanie wants to elevate Rob, Kurt, Linda, whoever, I think it would have already happened by now. So till it's confirmed, I'm not dumping on Jeanie.

Vas what do you mean with Jeanie elevating Pelinka?

She doesn't have to actively elevate him or change his title IMO. If she doesn't sign a new president for basketball operations, Pelinka is elevated by default in my book because he doesn't have to report to anyone except Jeanie.

I also think it isn't fair to judge someone on ONE decision or action...even though it might be a red flag (like the Zubac deal). But to me it is perfectly fair to judge someone on the results he produces over the years....and Jeanie has been producing hot garbage for a few years, without any question or doubt. We have become less and less terrible but that is still terrible.

So ya, if you produce garbage year after year with different people, different coaches and different players...it simply means you haven't done your homework and haven't hired the right people. At the very least she has sucked at hiring the right people.

No smacking Harden and CP3 around as they deserved to be smacked around with ensuing suspensions at start of season and horrible, momentum killing combinations of extended injuries this year to key players and the season looks a whole lot different. Still have a problem with none of that is mitigating circumstances in any way.

can't it be both? at best, they got lebron, had another max slot, and managed to basically field a 7 seed. the bad luck led to it being an 11th place finish instead, but that doesn't excuse the incompetence that led to the first part.

moreover, the clear disarray in the front office definitely lays at the owner's feet. it's officially a pattern. we give dolan no quarter (rightfully), and we're starting to look similar.

Bro, you've been a fan forever so you're well aware of Jimmy/Mitch essentially locking Jeanie out from any meaningful bball ops decisions. Part of it is to honor the good doc's wishes, but part of it is that Jimmy and Jeanie were really never that close. Jerry taking on Magic as his "adopted son" and having Phil as your potential brother in law...and well it's safe to say that Jimmy had a complex.

Jeanie isnt a bball ops type of gal, but now that there is an open line to that dept that values her voice, opinion and decisions, I'm going to give her an opportunity to see where she decides to go with the Prez title. That's what I mean by elevating Rob. We need a Prez and I'm sure she has no interest in having that title or role, so someone will claim it.

Since Jeanie has really taken over, she's allowed Magic/Rob to operate for 2 years and I think we're in a far better place than where we were.

As great as Lou is, we got Hart or Kuz (depending on how you want to look at it) with that trade and essentially tanked to get that #2 pick luckily... otherwise we lose that pick. Process that! With DLo we got Bron and instead of 35m on our books for MozDeng, we only have 5m in dead cap.

In 2 years we scrubbed our books, are sitting pretty with Klutch and have the ability to add another max player.

There's been missteps, but I'm sorry, Jeanie coming into power these last 2 years has been a step in the right direction so far.

I think it's less of "the right direction" and more of "we aren't sliding backwards from the rest of the league quite as fast." Her and Linda Rambis are not qualified to be hiring basketball minded executives. It's debatable whether or not Jeannie is even good at what she was doing before her Dad died. LIke I said somewhere else, are you really good at marketing when your job is to sell the most glamorous franchise in sports that's winning title after title?

Typically owners don't meddle once they find the right bball mind to drive the bus.

Again, I'm not going to judge Jeanie till she makes an official hire or promotion towards a Prez. As for the business end of the Lakers, she's been at it since '93. All the credit doesn't go to her of course, but its silly to believe she played no role in the brand.

As for qualifications...again West didn't have any in terms of GMing and Riles didn't have any in terms of coaching.

    Anyways...

I’m in on Ty Lue. Everyone I have heard speak on our coaching search, LFR, George Sedano, David Griffin, every talking head at ESPN all say he’s a better tactician than Monty and that he isn’t afraid to stand up to LeBron. If this is as wide as our coaching net gets cast, Lue is who I pick, we don’t need another player pleaser who is lacking in schemes like Luke was (which has been said about Monty), and we don’t need a rookie in Howard.
