Yeah, a second-round pick might be more appropriate. The way contracts are structured are non-guaranteed, so you could take the risk; if it doesn't work out, you could waive him.

Lakers learned today they'll have 27th pick. Some values from that slot since '01: Tinsley, Afflalo, DeMarre Carroll and Rudy Gobert.

Lakers picked No. 27 in '04 and '06. Ended up with Sasha Vujacic and Jordan Farmar.

    Edit; He's returning to school.

His passing decreased too. I imagine he was used differently.

Rudy Gobert at 27. Man I wish that was us at 27 that year. Talk about a steal.

Well, we did OK with Sasha and Farmar. We can do even better this time.

The more digging I do on Khris Middleton the more I'm hoping we can steal him away, although I'd be very happy with Tobias too. I think both fit exactly what we are looking for as young wings, but Middleton can play SG or SF while Tobias can play SF or PF. I really like Middleton's defensive abilities, would be a nice fit.

Chad Ford's latest mock draft has us taking Russell at #4 and Dakari Johnson at #27. If we can grab Anderson with our second round pick, I would be pretty content with that even though I would flip flop Johnson and Anderson talent wise.

Unfortunately since we stunk so bad this year, I feel like we have already argued most of the prospects to death.

Middleton is a much better choice than Tobias when you consider our roster. Tobias is a little like Randle in that he's a 3/4 rather than a 2/3 like Middleton. Middleton can move to sg when Kobe retires and we go after Durant. Harris, with Randle on the roster, would make quite the mess if we were to go after Durant.

I'm more than willing to throw an offer at Middleton and tie up our money if we manage to move into the top 2 in the draft and get one of the bigs because Okafor/Randle/Clarkson is enough for me to be excited about next season with no free agent signings.

Source says Tyus Jones is expected to sign w/ agent Rob Pelinka. He reps Kobe, Harden, etc. Tyus took pitches from many big-time agents.

Optimally, you want Middleton at the 3 or the 4 if you're playing small-ball. I wouldn't throw him at the 2 at all; his skill-set doesn't do well there...

Middleton at the 4? Dude is not a 4. He weighs 225 pounds and is 6'7". You'd be playing ultra-small ball. He plays sg for the Bucks a great deal because the Greek Freak plays sf for them. And his skill set is fine for sg. Defensively he is great at either wing. His handles aren't terrific, but if you're playing Stanley Stanley Johnson and Randle at the 3 and 4, you can afford to have less than superb handles at the 2. Optimally he's your small forward and we draft Okafor/Towns/WCS. But if we draft Winslow and we have Middleton at the 2, we will be JUST fine going forward.

I simply don't agree. Yes, he's played 4 at times and guarded there in Kidd's system. They do it based upon matchups. He would use his quickness and length on a 4; so, for instance, if ATL is playing Carroll, or Cleveland is playing Lebron, Middleton could be used at the 4. Similar to the way GS uses Green at the 4, and he's 6'7'.

Again, his handles are ok which is a problem at the SG position unless you're fine with him catching and shooting; he'll be going against faster, more athletic defenders that could potentially give him trouble with his average handles. The only way you could get way with him being at the 2 is depending upon how your team is setup; so, for instance, you have to have an elite slasher at the 1, 3, or 4, to create catch and shoot opportunities for Khris.

I'm very high on him but he has his limitations. Keep him at the 3, play him at the 4 at times and you have a very good supplemental piece depending on the teams makeup...

Yeah, so is Draymond Green; did I not mention specifically that they used him at the 4 depending on the matchups. Since a lot of the league has adapted to a stretch 4 with guys that are usually his height, Milwaukee has used him that way. Yes, he has guard 2's in the as well. I'm not worried about his defensive ability at guarding the 2-4, but I'm concerned about his ability on the offensive side at the 2 position for the reasons I laid out; unless your using him as a spot up shooter, he's not going to be 'ideal' in that position.

That won't be a problem for us. We will have at least Randle, Davis, and Black who can play 4. Middleton will be asked to play 3 almost exclusively, with maybe a bit at 2 depending on lineup. His handles will not be a problem. Both Clarkson and Randle are slashers. He is an excellent shooter so we WANT him to spot up and spread the floor.

Middleton playing 4 will expose a lot more problems IMO. There's no way he can match up against strong 4's. In fact, he might even have issues guarding stronger 3's like Carmelo.
