I just don’t know enough about Howard to say he’s a good or bad hire. People seem high on his defensive coaching with the Heat though.

Tellem is not the home run I wanted but could end up being a better fit than Magic.

    1) Greg Popovich currently serves not only as the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, he's also the President of Basketball Operations for the Spurs.

    2) The Spurs are currently in the playoffs.

    3) Monty Williams played for the Spurs from 1996 - 1998. Pop coached him during those years.

    4) Monty got his start in coaching as a coaching staff intern for the Spurs in 2005.

    5) Monty Williams joined the Spurs front office as Vice President of Basketball Operations under Popovich from 2016 - 2018.

    6) Peter Holt, longtime owner of the Spurs, handed over ownership of the team to his wife in 2016. The Holt's divorced in 2018.

    7) Pop's contract ends after this season (2018-2019). He signed his current contract with the Spurs when Peter Holt was still the owner.

    8) If Pop comes to the Lakers. Does RC Buford follow him?

^it is absolutely unthinkable that Pop would work with a different franchise than the Spurs. Same applies to RC Buford.

They are legends there, they can have their job for as long as they can breath air and they have their family and their entire existence there.

To me it is unthinkable. This might be a rare case of "money can't buy".

Pop is one of the main people who badmouths us and told the Pelicans not to deal with us.

No way would he come and I have little doubt he's one of the main people telling Monty not to take the job.

It's so wrong seeing Jerry in the same pic with a Clips logo. Would be so cool seeing him in purp n gold next year. But I doubt our FO has the brains or balls to bring him back home.

That's because we used to be The Lakers, instead of now just being the lakers, which the rest of the league absolutely loves and can't get enough of.

This literally isn’t hard. You have one piece here, you have GMs who are currently employed reportedly drooling over this job. The “hardest” part is convincing West to come back to the Lakers and mentor his son for his upcoming promotion (hopefully here).

Ok back to reality, Brunch Brigade FTW! (Excuse me while I vomit)

It would take Jerry getting some ownership of the Lakers that can be bequeathed to Ryan for him to jump ship from the Clippers.

Jerry West to Jeanie, "bend the knee".

    Thats what it'll take.

Wow. Can you imagine if this actually happens this summer and we hire Pop as PBO?

Apparently he doesn’t want to coach anymore after this season, and if we throw Magic Johnson money ($10 mil/year) to be PBO and he can hire his own guys as GM and coach.... if this happens it would be the equivalent of when Hulk Hogan turned heel and became Hollywood Hogan.

    Hollywood Pop.

I love Pop. Partway through our 20 year rivalry with the Spurs I developed a sort of sick appreciation for their team, their players, and especially Pop. I know a lot Laker fans feel this way too, but it's not a 2 way street. They hate us, their fans hate us, and hell their players probably still do too. So I just find it hard to believe Pop would ever associate with us.

He hates the Lakers, what we stand for, what we represent, our town, our culture, etc. I'm pretty sure he doesn't like LeBron (and from reports, vice-versa). To top it off he made damn sure Kawahi wasn't traded here, and reports state that he was all up in Dell Demps' ears (Dell Demps used to be a Spurs guy) urging him not to trade AD specifically here. I would love to be wrong but I just don't see him coming here. Especially now, with LeBron, after all this drama, etc.
