This is a big part of why I want the new person to have control over who their GM and coach are. Needs to have that power or we're going to be right back here this time next season.
Not only that...we need to expand and hold other folks accountable. We didn't have a VP to keep Magic in check or take over the more day to day tasks. Jesse is our assistant GM, but he's also head of our scouting. Get Jesse an assistant in scouting so that he can hold Rob or the new GM in check. It's alarming how small our bbal operation was, yet all the leaks that came out from them. Keeping a close knit small group, is primarily done to prevent leaks...but some how, we still had a tremendous amount of them. So if you want to keep it small, make sure there has already been an established rapport among them. Otherwise, expand operations and have it where one person doesn't have to wear multiple hats. And have your prez have full autonomy in hiring his or her entire bball ops.
And this worries me. If Pelinka is staying, what kind of President can we hope to get. No competent person is going to accept the job if they know they will have to work with a man who can't get other GMs to take his phone calls. We're going to get either a retread or someone who is hoping we luck into another free agent and a we make a run. Then he can hopefully get another job by claiming some success from us.
I time stamped it at how LA should approach free agency this summer and Magic kinda alludes that we have an ace in the hole already. Let's say it is Kawhi, it's interesting that Magic particularly mentions that we have to make it clear to the free agent that he can move around in similar fashion to how Bron moves...like a superstar. We know that Kawhi had issue with the Spurs not treating him as such and even had issue with Kawhi bit having his own med team. The rest of it really paints a picture of betrayal/backstabbing. Magic has taken on HIV, why step down so abruptly? Sure looks like Jeanie sided with Rob/Luke and the folks sharing their takes for this supposed ESPN exposé that paints Magic as a bad president. Anyways, Magic made it a point that he wouldn't leave the Lakers if he didn't believe they were already set up for success. So it seems like he knows something we all don't. He also believes Jeanie needs to fully have his replacement vetted so that he/she has her best interests in mind and it can be someone she fully trusts. He also mentions that his other agent friends have shared unflattering stories about Rob, but he himself had a good working relationship, even though he didn't know him personally until Jeanie paired them together. Numerous times he also mentions BI. I feel if he didn't really believe in BI, dude would have already gotten traded. He did mention Kuz, Zo and Hart as well, but BI was the guy it seemed he had the most to talk about. Anyways, if you got time give it a listen.
whoath Magic, nevermind the constant details of him not actually being in the office much n doing his job, the crappy stuff hes pulled over thcourse of this season...haha dam i couldve sworn magic just tried to trade everyone not named Lebron for AD lol
Jeannie knew from minute one that Magic wouldn’t be in the office every day. He’s got multiple other businesses that he manages. I think that’s all just part of folks leaking stuff to dump on Magic honestly. I’ve been plenty critical of Magic but it’s clear to me that he was another symptom of the root problem which is Jeannie. She could’ve easily just kept him in an Ambassador/ Consultant role and brought in a day to day grinder to run basketball operations. I don’t like a lot of Magic’s moves and hate how he quit but Jeannie is the biggest problem right now. We won’t get it right until she gets out of her own way.
Think Spectrum could make some noise if subscriber number falls. We havent been good since they gave us that huge TV deal
Yeah. I think if things don’t change this summer they could definitely see their numbers drop even more.
yes jeanie is an idiot for hiring him to begin win but lets not pretend magic wasnt whispering in her ear n telling her everything she wanted to hear either n he clearly did not understand the work that needed to be done as BPO. Both magic n jeanie clearly did not think this through long n hard before they joined forces
Yeah. Trust me. I’m not trying to give Magic a pass at all. But Jeannie is going to ruin the franchise completely if someone doesn’t talk some sense into her.
If I’m Time Warner/Spectrum, I’d feel beyond robbed. We’ll probably improve just in time for the next big contract though lol
No. I can’t imagine anyone is in a hurry to do that but if Jeannie keeps screwing up that could change.
