Oh my how the narrative has changed from yesteryear...

Unless Woj was blurring the lines again by driving propoganda rather than true insider news. Now where have I seen that more recently?

What really makes me uneasy about this whole thing is Magic making it a point to state that Jeanie had him as the only person she could trust and that he grew tired of the back-stabbing and whispering.

    this i buy.

this i don't. woj has an agenda in all laker reporting. if he wants rob here, we should want him gone.

edit: just read the date on vash's woj tweet. makes more sense now. i thought it was recent.

I mean. That was relatively speaking. I’m not painting Magic as a great exec. But there are reports of him having to make calls because GMs refused to speak with Rob.

You might not do the deal but you’re gonna probably take Magic’s phone call.

She just doesn’t get it. She’s the common thread through all of the dysfunction over the years. I remember you and I talking about her getting a pass during the Jim Buss days. No one for her to hide behind now.

I don't get it vas, what's your reasoning for wanting to keep Pelinka over a more proven GM?

i've been on this train since day one. the removal of jim and mitch may have been justified, but replacing them jeannie and her cronies wasn't an improvement. it was more of the same. we're teetering on dolan/knicks territory right now. very important decisions need to be made in the next few weeks.

    Sorry for the confusion bud.

I'm saying Woj's narrative is contradictory to what many are saying about Rob. And that's given me pause about dude cause we know how Woj was treating us during the trade deadline.

Add to that all the leaks about Magic vs the coaching staff (even tho team prez are not encouraged to meddle and be so day to day as a GM is) and also Magic stating he was tired with all the back-stabbing and whispers...it just all pretty much boils down to Magic point-blank stating he is loyal to Jeanie and that the next person she decides to get better be fully vetted and just as fiercely loyal to her as he is.

If Rob didn't have a Kobe tie in, I'm not sure Magic would dance around that topic. But he was particularly cryptic about it.

Bottomline: I'm starting to look at Rob a bit sideways and I used the Woj tweet from years before to pretty much confirm my instincts on the matter. I'm curious how this all plays out...but if it's Myers or Griff at Prez with Monty at coach and Magic back in advisory/ambassador role, I'll be extremely optimistic about our summer.

Till then, Im hesitantly optimistic even though I trust Jeanie to make the right moves heading forward. I do however agree with most here that she can't just jump into this decision like she did with Rob (not even Magic's hire btw).... meanwhile she deliberated at length in ousting her brother for Magic. Morever, Jimmy/Mitch jumped into the Luke Walton coaching hire without much due diligence....as they did with MozDeng. So think about what Magic really stepped into...he didn't have his pick of GM or coach and had to deal with some bad books.

Jeanie needs to make sure to not rush to judgement and get this right.

Bob Myers or David Griffin or RC Buford as President / Monty Williams as coach would be the ultimate turn around of a failed dumpster fire of a situation. Any of those three guys as President and Jeannie can relax, focus on marketing the team and enjoy watching the franchise return to stability.

Magic can go mentor the likes of Ben/Serena and cont tweeting his nonsense and be happy, he no longer deserves to work in any capacity here.

Let's say we get Bob Meyers as President of Basketball Operations. What will he be handling in regards to trades, free agency meetings, etc.? The problem seems to be people around the league don't like Pelinka and think he's a bit of a bully and a snake. If that's the case, it doesn't matter who is PBO if Pelinka is still GM and handling those things. From what executives around the league are saying, we basically need to clean out EVERYTHING. Hiring Bob Meyers doesn't eliminate the Pelinka animosity.

Apparently this kind of behavior from Pelinka was also present when he was a player agent? Do we not vet people?

There's going to be tension unless our new President handpicks the GM. Best to let him go just so that organizationally we are on the same page.

look at the hiring of our coaches last few yrs, like 1-2 candidates at most gets interviewed, in Brown case he was the only one who got interviewed and got job on the spot, Magic/Rob hiring felt like no thought processed involved, just Magic was a laker great and rob is kobe bff or whatevers and boom you got the job

Luke Walton was hired without interviewing ANY OTHER CANDIDATES. I have been shouting to the rooftops ever since that day he was hired, Why TF wasn't there due diligence before hiring the next coach? And then they did it again with Magic/Pelinka. Jeannie panics and makes moves too fast, probably thinking if I don't grab them now, someone else will. Relax, Jeannie. Go hire a real President and let them worry about that kind of stuff.

The new Prez needs to pick his people period!

Jeanie picked Magic...Jeanie picked Rob. Jeanie's brother picked the coach.

Folks are mad at Magic (and I'm definitely upset at how he stepped down), but when you get right down to it, Magic had bad books to work with, wasn't a CBA savant, didn't have previous rapport or any personal say in picking his GM and coach and then everything got leaky AF.

Tell me this...how does a small bball ops front office (basically Magic, Rob, some Buss & West kids and Luke) have so many leaks?

It's cause they were all forced to fit together. It's gotta be if one goes, they all go. If you're looking for a Prez (that ain't Rob), then you give that Prez carte blanche.

New Prez chooses new VP, new GM, new asst GM and new coach and makes tweaks to all the other interdisciplines in bball ops (ie scouting, analytics, sports medicine, etc).

Jeanie is the business owner. She needs to pick a BASKETBALL owner, and let that person decide how to make BASKETBALL related decisions.

Agreed with this; the responsibility and pressure is on her presently.

Rob isn't going to work, but my guess is she'll keep everything in house with people she trust and we'll continue to flounder...
