As several of us pointed out at the time, there wasn’t a new plan. We just changed the guys executing a questionable strategy.

I’m not confident Jeannie gets that. I can easily see her still going with a family first motto and not making real changes.

Beyond my personal thoughts on him I just feel like everything is tainted now and any new exec brought in should have the freedom to hire his own people, coach included

that "FUN" crap gets me every dam time.....clearly Magic nor Jeanie thought this true long and hard enough, who in the HELL thinks being a president of ANY dam company would be fun? Hell I bet the president of Playboy wouldn't have had fun all the time.

Lakers hit 17 wins in the 2015-16 season.
Here's what happened to them other 10-digit winners in that span.

    Philadelphia 10 > 28 > 52 > 50
    Lakers 17 > 26 > 35 > 37

Nets were at 20 in 2016-17
    Nets 20 > 28 > 41

    Suns, Cavs, and Knicks enter:
    Suns 19
    Cavs 19
    Knicks 17

    Cumulative:
    Philadelphia 10 > 28 > 52 > 50
    Lakers 17 > 26 > 35 > 37
    Nets 20 > 28 > 41
    Suns 19
    Cavs 19
    Knicks 17

There's no team that has fallen to 20 or fewer wins in the past four seasons that hasn't increased in subsequent seasons.

The thing that worries most is, would Magic have quit if he knew we'd have AD, Durant or KL in the bag this summer? I think not, he'll want to be there to reap the benefits and praise of turning around the franchise.

Quitting like this makes me feel extremely uneasy about our prospects this summer and beyond.

That's what one of the clips with the talking heads insinuated that he knew the FAs weren't happening and something about AD.

good point. not looking good at all heading into the summer with no stability in the FO or with the coaching staff

you think big name FA's are going to even considering signing with this team given how things are in shambles?

They got 3 months to have the new order up and running for free agency I read yesterday. So time for due process and then getting the media campaign going on how it's looking good again. A Rob parable just for the occasion if needed.

I find it hilarious that a lot of people on this board assumes that Luke got a raw deal and he is not to blame in this fiasco.

#1) Luke inherited a Lakers team at the very bottom. There was nowhere to go but up. Of course their record was going to improve over the next couple of seasons when the kids started maturing and the Lakers could add a few veteran FAs. Luke was not the reason the Lakers improved - it was timing and the fact that we had already bottomed.

#2) It was Luke's idea to go get Mozgov. He wanted him, Mitch listened, and they signed the worst contract in NBA history at 12:01am, together. Again, LUKE WANTED him. So when Magic came in and traded D-Lo and Mozgov to get cap space, Luke is partly to blame. And it shows what a moron Luke is for thinking Mozgov was a good fit to any team, let alone this one.

#3) Julius Randle leaving was at least partly Luke's fault. Let us not forgot Luke was the idiot who started the 2017-2018 season bringing Randle off the bench. The guy had busted his a** all off-season and what did he get out of it? The bench. Our best player was coming off the bench. Randle was hurt by this and probably made his decision then and there that he didn't want to play in LA anymore. When it came time for FA, Randle wanted to be assured that he would be a starter (which he should be) and he got told they couldn't promise him that, and so he asked to be released. That is LUKE's fault.

#4) It has been reported that Luke Walton wanted to pursue the guys that the Lakers ultimately signed this past off-season. Luke wanted to sign tough, gritty, ball-handling veterans. It was also his idea to play LeBron "off the ball". So, yeah you can run that narrative that the Lakers assembled a crappy roster for Luke- but they assembled the exact team he wanted. And his idea of playing LeBron off the ball was the exact opposite of how LeBron normally plays and when he is most effective.

So no, I don't feel bad for Walton. He doesn't deserve to keep his job. Just because the Lakers had injuries and a dysfunctional roster doesn't mean that Luke didn't do a bad job. He did. He cannot figure out a rotation, he has no system, he is not good at developing young players, and he's inexperienced. He deserves to get fired. He might make it through now that Magic quit, but only because he is a lucky son of a b****. He lucked into the Laker job when he parlayed his B.S. interim stint with the Warriors into a head coaching job. He was lucky with his timing as the Lakers were at rock bottom. And now he has lucked into keeping his job (for the time being) because Magic quit. This guy has a horseshoe up his a**, but he's still a POS coach.
