I just don’t get it. Why would Doc come to us if he has something good in going with “the other” team. Seems to have a much better run team and he has Jerry West, with the possibility of getting Kawhi or KD in the offseason.

Only way I see it happening is if he doesn’t like the FO or their direction or he has beef with someone or someones and I just don’t see any evidence of that.

Would I want him?No, not really. Unfortunately though, he would be the best option. Everyone else is a young new coach quite like Luke is/was.

Wasn’t Doc also the GM/President of Basketball Operations for the Clippers in addition to his coaching role, and then they pretty much demoted him and stripped away his other roles?

I could see him being salty about that...

Although if he were salty enough about that to leave I’m not sure how much I’d want him. Especially if he was expecting to have major control over personnel with us. Objectively, he should realize that it was a good move by the Clippers to have Doc only be coach and allow Jerry West to call the shots.

I’ll take him, but only if he signs his son as our backup point guard.

I think it’s safe to say everyone is okay with Doc not being our coach.

Doc makes upwards of $10M a year, a top 3 coach in terms of salary. He already gets to live in Los Angeles. And he's held to exceedingly low expectations as a coach during a rebuild.

If you were Doc Rivers, would you take the Laker coaching job?

If I were any high level or respectable coach I don’t think I’d take the job. I don’t want to keep piling on LeBron, but he is not coachable. When was the last time he was coachable? He wanted Spoelstra fired and the only reason it didn’t happen was because Pat Riley isn’t a punk. LeBron wants some figurehead in place he can control, and just do what he wants on the court. What coach wants to sign up for that, when LeBron is about to be in years 17-19, declining but still holding that level of power. What established coach will he listen to? What young or inexperienced coach could survive that?

I think Doc’s camp leaked the whole thing to help in his negotiations for an extension.

He’s too cool to say nobody wants to coach LeBron, but he was thinking it!

From that article on Bleacher Report

The hits keep coming for LeBron James as he nears the end of a disappointing first season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

During Tuesday's episode of Pardon The Interruption, Michael Wilbon addressed the rumors about Doc Rivers potentially taking over as Lakers head coach next season:

"There are people in southern California right now in that environment telling Doc he doesn't wanna do this. And one of those reasons is simply, LeBron James. He's been told by people—and I know this—LeBron doesn't want to be coached. He's never been coached by someone with that kind of personality, command, authority, acumen, intellect. He's rejected that. So Doc is being reminded of that by people."

You’re probably right but he’s a heck of a coach!

Might as well just keep Luke.

right. it's not as if lebron didn't walk in and create the lebron system anyway. luke didn't stand in his way. anyone we'd really want would. so...why waste 10 million dollars?

Constant roster turnover with bad fit mercenaries, injuries and bringing LeDouche in have doomed Walton. With the "sky is blue" confirmation reports of what we have seen throughout LBJ's career of he "doesn't want to be coached" (warning comments to Rivers, if he was ever really considering [don't buy for a minute]) .... what is the point of doing all this due diligence for a replacement anyway? Seriously? This guy is going to do whatever the hell he wants to do out there anyway. And probably deserves half the blame to go along with Luke's lack of quality assistants and alleged own ineptitude for how our half court sets looked. LeBron just wants some figurehead like Lue. We're screwed. And it will be a big buck hire because why would any coach want to be subjected to this coach killer's act?

BTW, I'm going on record that like Randle most of us could see coming a mile away that we would miss like crazy in our lineup and for likely the rest of his career as consistent scoring and muscle down low as he continues to improve .... that Luke this guy so many hate will land on his feet and be a good coach somewhere else as early as next year. Possibly Phoenix as reported somewhere the other day interested in him. While we hire a figurehead. Coach in name only to run LeBron's system.
