If Carroll is amenable to leaving, that could be a rock solid grab. If he has a decent playoff run and we get a big in the draft, I'm definitely down to throw 10 million at him. Grab Carroll for 4/40 million or something, get our big in the draft, then bring back Ellington and Davis? Maybe Lin if the "fit" is right? Hell yeah I'm down for that.

    Clarkson/?
    Bryant/Ellington/Brown
    Carroll/Young
    Randle/Black/Kelly
    Okafor/Davis

    Let's roll.

Yeah maybe. Jones would probably be a little more ready. Lucas won't be ready for a couple of seasons if he ever is.

We could afford to bring in another veteran PG probably too. You pay Carroll 10 million, Davis 5 million, and Ellington maybe 2 million. Is there a vet out there willing to go for 3/9 million? Maybe a Will Bynum or a CJ Watson? Heck maybe that's all Lin gets in FA.

Not sure what his contract is like, but if we can lock him in long term i would do in a heart beat. No guarantee that anyone in the draft will be as good as cousins

Ha!! I posted "absolutely" at first in agreement to fabulous thinking it meant "interest" in that scenario and "a" pick. Well..... it was a long and detailed post from Lakersin4 [IMG]

But "the" pick? Yikes. Guess if it was not top 2, then still yeah ..... Boogie is insurance with upside still against all the new young gun bigs already in the league and coming into the league.

If we get a top 2 pick out of the lottery.... wow....still maybe but then we don't have the cheap contract of potential star BIG in Okafor or Towns, that would allow us to spend cap space elsewhere.

    in a heart beat.

The only players that would be untouchable for me would be Clarkson, Randle, and Kobe.

I don't think I 've heard other players complain about Cousins so whatever issues he has seem to only be with coaches. Having him, Randle and Clarkson would only be a draw for other good players. The guy is on another level skillwise than Okafor or Towns. Be like bringing Shaq here at age 25 with super young Kobe. Aside from Davis what center is as good as he is? Love that deal. Throw Kobe in there for good measure :eek:We're talking about the future!

Can Lakers put fate in Rondo's hands?

Without even watching the video yet, the line above it should get a resounding HELL NO. Am assuming it was in some article. It makes no sense to tie up big dollars in this guy. Would he even be open to 8-10 million a year?

I mean, just look at that PER drop. 17 down to 13.4? Clarkson might eclipse 17 as a rookie. Yes. Clarkson is not the same "type" of pg as Rondo. But he is playing the position and playing it well. Why spend 10x more on Rondo to have Clarkson come off the bench or play sg next to Kobe at sf in one of the smallest lineups ever? Let that sink in. Clarkson will be making 845k next season. You think we'll get Rondo for less than 8.45 million? No. So will likely be spending 10x more on him than our current starting pg. A point guard that is superior to Rondo. I'm hoping the bit about Kobe not being available for "Breakfast with Rondo" (sounds like a bad Saturday Night Live skit) is his way of "breaking up" with Rondo before free agency begins. I mean, Kobe has to know Clarkson is a superior player at this point. He is also smart enough to know the cap ramifications.

Kobe is also smart enough to know that the only way he has a puncher’s chance at the playoffs is to follow Clarkson at point, hope Randle and our pick turn out to be studs, and we sign Love (or by some miracle Kawahi or Butler). It’s not going to be by adding a broken down Rondo, and then play everyone out of position.

i'm a big demarre carroll fan, but 10 million? when people won't spend that on rondo?

cousins terrifies me. he's the second most talented big in the league after davis, but he's just such a knucklehead. you'd hope it would have changed by now, and it hasn't. it's possible that he could be a reclamation project of the highest order (like, "we just got a young shaq with a jumpshot" order), but why can't sac win with him? you can cite their piss poor management and lack of talent, but usually, if you've got a guy as good as cousins is right now, you can at least make things interesting (again, see davis with NO). sac just continues to suck.

I'm not advocating we bring in Rondo, just thought folks might be interested in watching the video. lol. I think the emergence of Clarkson has lessened the chances we sign him considerably.

I honestly still have this feeling that Love is going to end up in a Laker jersey.

That's why you'd need high character young kids like Randle and Clarkson. Cousins was an exemplary student for Team USA, he just needs strong leadership.

Re: Carroll vs Rondo- I tend to agree, but I think Carroll is a bigger need.

Yep. Based off of last years roster - We can have a pg/sf combo of Clarkson/Carroll or Rondo/Wes Johnson

A couple people now have excluded Kobe's name from the "untouchable" list intentionally or unintentionally when saying how far they'd go to get Cousins here. In the immortal words multiple times from John McInroe, talking to referees (umpires?) during Grand Slams .... "You can not be serious!!" Zero chance the Lakers front office would do this .... throw Kobe Bryant into a trade for Boogie to make it work just prior to his possibly last season as a Laker for life and arguably the "Greatest Laker Ever".

I think people just assume a) the lakers aren't interested in moving kobe and b) no one is interested/able to trade for him at his current salary.

I agree that mayyyyybe kobe can help keep cousins' mind in the right place, but...man, I don't know. you just watch him out there and he seems to lack fundamental impulse control. not sure how to fix it.

A lot like Matt Barnes in that respect.
