Chris Paul Praises Jordan Clarkson: ‘He Can Really Play’

Los Angeles Lakers rookie point guard Jordan Clarkson had his worst statistical outing since becoming a starter in Sunday night’s blowout loss to the Clippers. Clarkson scored only two points on 1-6 from the field and was clearly bothered by the Clippers blitzing him on pick and rolls.

    – Think You Know Everything About Kobe Bryant? Take The Ultimate Kobe Quiz! –

Thankfully for Clarkson, he got the opportunity to immediately redeem himself against Chris Paul and the Clippers and he made good on that chance with a 20 point, six assist performance in the Lakers 105-100 loss. Afterwards, Paul praised the Lakers rookie according to Shahan Ahmed of NBC Los Angeles:

Chris Paul on @JClark5on : "He can really play. I've known him since Missouri…and I think he's going to continue to get better."

    — Shahan Ahmed (@shahanLA) April 8, 2015

Clarkson was much more aggressive and in control the second time around against the Clippers and was able to beat Paul and attack the basket on a number of occasions. The reigning Rookie of the Month looked much more the part of the promising rookie he has looked since being named a starter and he has been getting the attention of plenty of opponents.

In a season full of downs, Clarkson has been the biggest bright spot for the Lakers and is one of the team’s best young prospects in a long time. With Julius Randle set to return next season, Clarkson looks to be one of the future building blocks of a Lakers franchise trying to turn things around as quickly as possible.

Anyone else wondering, how will he look next to Kobe?

I've wondered, but honestly, I just don't care. Kobe is on his last legs going into what I expect to be his last year of playing basketball. He's probably going to sit out all back-to-backs next year at the very least and should not be relied upon has mush as we relied upon him this past season. I love Kobe; don't get me wrong, but given the circumstances, it's something that will be intriguing to watch, but something I'm not greatly concerned about for the reasons I just laid out.

From a basketball standpoint, Jordan has the ability to move off the ball well finding the open spaces within a defense, but he would do himself great benefit to himself to improve his 3-point shooting to around 36%-38% and that will give him more open lanes to exploit creating opportunities for himself and teammates. I would like to get his stats on what he's shooting from 20 feet on because he seems efficient in those areas.

So, if Kobe is in point guard mode in a game, and still has the ability to draw attention on the defense having them collapse, Jordan could shoot it if he's open or attack the defense. I'd like to see Kobe more off the ball, though, exerting much less energy. If Jordan could create and penetrate, Kobe could benefit shooting mid-range jumpers, find the open seams, and/or keeping the ball moving for an easier to an open teammate on a scrambling defense.

JC averages 5,4 assists per game since the allstar break. But he could easilly average 2 or 3 more assists with players able to score when they're wide open.

Kid looks great in that clip. Surprised the refs give him so much latitude with his off arm.

Can you imagine what a beast Julius would be by now if he had not had the injury and was able to play as much with anywhere near the same level of improvement over the course of the season? [IMG]

I think what we need to determine is if Jordan and Julius will ultimately develop into our primary scorers. (one-two punch ie Gasol/Randolph or Westbrook/Durant) That factor alone will change the outlook of this year's draft and FA signings.

Clarkson playing with Kobe is hugh. he will get an experience that is worth years of playing time. also it will program his mind to be like Kobe's - the desire to win as many championships possible. I'm sure that its not the answer you will get from Wiggins if asked at this point of his career "what is your goal".

He reminds me of Monta Ellis. A taller and better defender version of him

Showed some of that Black Mamba venom at the end that when he didnt even look toward the bench after turning the ankle again. I'm surprised he didnt hurt it even more by how far he turned on it when he landed on the Kings players foot. wow

5 steals tonight and 1 block, what a great overall game!!

Byron Scott says Clarkson's ankle is "a little sore." Team will know more tomorrow.

Thank goodness only 1 more game...

He seemed ok in the locker room post-game. But those two tweaks looked nasty.
