Sometimes I really agree with Ford and other times I think he's a dingus. His opinions on OKafor, Towns, Mudiay, Russell, and Winslow though are spot on. Okafor is the best NBA prospect in the draft. I know it's boring to say that and Towns has probably a higher ceiling, but Okafor is the better pick. Mudiay will translate more easily and readily into an NBA player. Winslow is good, Top 10 pick good, but the tournament is kind of buoying him unnaturally at this point.

I am thoroughly uninterested in Turner and I think Porzingis might end up good one day, but we can't afford to wait for that. I'd rather have any number of more proven players.

Yeah I agree on both guys. I think Turner should have stayed in school another year. I do think someone could to take the gamble and grab Porzingis early.

Oh Porzingis is definitely going to go in the Top 15 I just don't want to be the team that does it. He's got some talent, but he's got sooooooo much growing to do. We don't have the luxury of waiting that long.

    Completely agree.

Honestly, I am trying not to jinx us, but I really think we might just move up and have a real shot at getting Okafor.

Couldn't watch the whole 18 minutes, but got the gist of it. Pretty much the same thing we all have said. He's sliding back down my draft board actually. His upside is low relative to the rest of the draft. What you see is what you get: athletic guy who is skinny and likely to be pushed around in the half court.

I hope so man. I really do hope so. My dream is watching a young core of Clarkson, Randle, and Okafor moving into the new era of Laker basketball.

porzingis is a sixers pick. I think you'll have to wait a while to see if he can build a body suitable for nba play. don't think the lakers are in that business, particularly when a) they won't pick after 5 and b) there are at least 5 really talented guys without a physical question mark like that.

Just add Middleton in free agency, and I will be ecstatic. Let the 4 of them gel for a few years.

So are we now officially "locked" in on 4th in the tankathon? Or is it still possible for us to lose that spot if we win the rest of our games and Orlando loses the rest of em?

Yes, I read the same thing; we're officially rebuilding. That statements also applies not chasing after veterans next year to appease Kobe; it also means going through the draft and free agency to acquire the right players to move this franchise forward in a positive way. It's a combination of all those things. I'm not a against going through the draft, but this we rebuild could go different ways because we are in a unique situation given our location and market. Once we're competitive, free agents will be attracted to us once again.

I'm sure you know the history; drafted Magic traded for Kareem, drafted Kobe, went after Shaq. We did draft well in the 90's, too. We drafted Nick Van Exel and Eddie Jones both of whom turned out to be All-Stars, we won over 50 games the summer we went after Shaq. We built a team that was fun too watch, competitive, and West had a different CBA to work under and we offered Shaq the most money on the market. Then, we drafted Kobe. We know what transpired after that.

Honestly, I don't even think we'll keep the pick but I can't support or criticize that decision it without knowing who they'd pursue, and without knowing how it fits into the bigger picture in terms of Free Agency. I've been screaming from the mountaintops since Howard left that we needed to "restock the cupboard" in terms of assets, and while it's been painful, we've done a nice job of that. (lottery gods willing) We're about to move to Phase 2 of the rebuild as a result of accruing Clarkson/Randle/Top 5 and hopefully something of value with our other picks. I think that's going to involve moving some pieces around, and the prime candidate for that are the guys on rookie deals.

I don't think that moving Top 5 is inherently short-sighted. The long term benefit of exchanging the pick for an established player is that we become more attractive to prospective free agents this summer, and it (presumably) helps us win more games next year, which makes us more attractive to free agents next summer. If Clarkson and Randle are starting caliber players that are trending upward, we have the financial flexibility to acquire two max players and a third player who's very well paid, while not being completely bereft of depth.

I think whomever we'd pursue would have to fit into the following criteria:

    1) Immediate impact - No projects or hopes. He's a known quantity that will help us win next year. No Joel Embiid's, or someone like that.

    2) Younger than 30 - He needs to not only help us win now, but be part of the core (along w/two max guys) that can contend in a couple of years.

    3) Be signed through at least 2017 - The idea is to pair this hypothetical player up with 2 max players over the next couple of years, and obviously you don't want to give up a 1st rounder for a one year rental anyway.
