That pitch was at dudes ankle inside... he earned the homer but yea I am not sure why Baez was taken out after looking dominating.
All that being said, I don't think the Dodgers hold their heads down with this game. All the things being equal we have not played here. They have had some balls drop that would be caught by a team having played here before. They also got the benefit of some chippy base hits. Add to that this is the coldest game we have played in all year after coming out of the dome. I thought Kershaw pitched much better than the 5 runs show. And most importantly to me, we aren't just trying to kill the ball. We have had some really good swings tonight. Patient at bats too. We look much better than we did in the NLCS already.
I want to see how we respond tomorrow. I really am not mad at the loss. Only thing I hated was seeing Woods give up the bomb. Outside of that we matched them all game. Inspite of what the announcers say I think we are just as good as these guys. In the end, i trust what Roberts is working to do. Now we got a game under our belts lets see what tomorrow holds.
All-in-all this was a moral victory to me. 1) we got to Sale who might be the best pitcher on the planet right now. Got him just fine with good at-bats, good contact, good action at the plate. 2) we got to the bullpen for them which is a weaker bullpen than ours. If we can get them tired, we can steal games later on. 3) we are in this series 100%. I think there's plenty of optimism to be had. this was the best offense in baseball and they looked like it, but we were hanging right in there for most of this game. 4) I hate Alex Wood. I'm done with that guy. His confidence is shot. He shouldn't be on this roster. I'd rather have Stripling. I'd rather have Furgeson. I'd rather have Vendette.
Hope Ryu can rebound off that bad Game 6. He's one of our best and when dialed in, he can really let it fly. Yeah, no more Wood, he just doesn't have it anymore. Maeda, Baez, Madson, Urias, anyone in relief except him. Not sure if Price is as good as he used to be, so we got to let our bats fly tonight. Bellinger had a couple chances to put us ahead yesterday, but he went back to his home run swing rather than play small ball. He needs to know when pitchers are trying to jam him inside and throwing him outside for bad hits.
Big thing for Ryu is mixing up his pitches so that the Red Sox don't sit on one of his pitches. It was obvious that the Brewers were just sitting on his breaking ball and destroyed it. I have worries that he was tipping like Darvish, but the Brewers didn't hit him as hard once he mixed up his pitches.
we do nothing at the plate really. Betts gets a base hit... RYU gets out 2. Can't let Boston get the hits with 2 outs. Ryu needs to get out of this unscathed
lead of basehit... lets rally and put some pressure on them. Machodo follows with a base hit.. First time with RISP
bases loaded ZERO outs.... Matty needs to scratch an RBI... Anything in the outfield probably ties the game.
Matt did just what he needed to do.. Get that RBI. Wish he would of been able to get some butt behind it. He gave it a good ride.
