I still think Lin could fit in Atlanta. I don't exactly know who Teague's backup is, and I think they could use someone like Lin. When they get bounced from the PO's, maybe they'll looking be looking to upgrade that spot...we just never know. Plus, it's not just Lin; we're adding picks and cash. You get a players who help you win now in a system he could flourish in, get 2 more picks to add, and some cash. Again, I know a long shot but worth a look provided we lose out on our lottery pick this year...
Oh yeah no it wouldn't work. They really like the backup PG over there. Some people say they like him more than Teague. It's a German kid named Schronder or something. They call him the German Rondo (in a good way).
Yep. He's expected to take over if Teague becomes too expensive to keep in FA. Lin is a downgrade from him. And they wouldn't pony up for Lin's salary. I do think Hill fits in well though. Capable of hustle, D, and dirty work (although he's gotten away from that). He can shoot, too much at times. I like him better for them than Pero. I think that's their biggest weakness right now.
Yeah. The problem is it'd have to almost be a sign and trade to a lower annual salary because they will want to keep Milsap and Carroll.
Yeah. I think it's possible. But then it becomes like Lin. Hill would have to actually WANT to play in Atlanta. I don't think Atlanta takes him at 9 million because Millsap will probably get 12 million. Carroll about 6 or so. With 39 million on the books, that puts them at about 58. Cap holds for roster filler is up to almost 60. That's not enough to absorb Hill. Essentially Hill has to want to play for Atlanta and they have to want him enough to move back in the draft. I just don't see it happening to be honest. I think it's a good fit for Atlanta. But it's a lot of moving parts when the reality is Atlanta could just swoop in and offer Ed Davis 6 million to play behind Millsap and Horford. Now, the cap hold for Carroll will be lower than what his actual salary might end up being, but it's still tough. I would love to move up in t
Again we would sign Hill to a 4/20 type of deal, we wouldn't be moving him at 9 million to Atlanta. They're too frugal.
Oh. I know. But I was just saying Hill would then have to WANT to play there. You can't sign and trade a player without their consent. Without the top 5 pick to worry about, we do have more cap space. Clarkson (.9) / Jameer Nelson (Room Exception) / 2nd Round pick (.5) Kobe (25) / Middleton (10) / Clarkson Middleton / Young (5.2) / Hollis-Jefferson (Houston pick) (1) Randle (3.2) / Kelly (1.7) Monroe (16) / Black (.9) / Sacre (1) That's 12 players and this equals 65.4. If the cap ends up at 66.5 or so, maybe use the vet minimum on Raymond Felton as opposed to relying on a 2nd round rookie as our 3rd string pg. That's not a bad team. Things could break right and we fight for the 8th seed. It's literally an upgrade at all 5 positions (If you count Kobe as being out this season).
Took a step back today and realized that losing the draft pick is terrible, but if the FO took the right mindset we could put together a seriously deep team. My realistic plan.... Clarkson (.9) / ______ / Kobe (25) / ______ / Brown (.9) ______ / Young (5.2) / 1st rounder (.9) Randle (3.3) / Black (.9) / Kelly (1.7) ______ / 2nd rounder (.9)/ Sacre (.9) Total - 40.6 million + 2 cap holds (1 million) = 41.6 million 67 million cap projected next season - 41.6 = 25.4 million to spend 12 million - Robin Lopez, Asik, Hibbert 7 million - DeMarre Carroll 3 million - Wayne Ellington 4 million - Mo Williams 1st rounder - Rhondae Hollis-Jefferson 2nd rounder - Dakari Johnson Vet min - Ronnie Price Clarkson /Mo Williams / Ronnie Price (Vet min) Kobe /Ellington / Brown Carroll/ Young / RHJ Randle / Black / Kelly Lopez / Johnson / Sacre Total - 66.6 million My semi-realistic plan.... Clarkson (.9) / CJ Watson (BAE) / Ronnie Price (Vet min) Danny Green (7) / Matthews (8) / Brown (.9) Kobe (25) / Young (5.2) / RHJ (.9) Randle (3.3) / Black (.9) / Kelly (1.7) Lopez (12) / Johnson (.9) / Sacre (.9) Total - 67.6 million No star players, no home runs, but solid doubles and triples that makes up a ridiculously deep squad in both scenarios. Most importantly, if you are a superstar player, that supporting cast is set in stone and ready to roll when Kobe retires. The cap rises, we have enough room to pay Clarkson, Randle, Black and a max slot. Team could be together for 5-7 years.
I like the scenarios, but I think Danny Green gets more than 7 million, and of all the Greens he's my least favorite. He has system player written all over him. Do you think Robin Lopez will get 12 million? I thought he'd get closer to 10.
I'll give Monroe 15 rather than Lopez at 12... I had enough of offensively inept Centers this past 3 years
I'm just throwing up rough estimates as to what I think players are worth. If he gets 10 that's great, 2 million to spend elsewhere. I agree Green is a system player, but he's also found his niche as a 3 and D player. Other options would be Demarre Carroll, Jeff Green at that price range.
If you were the Pistons would you let Monroe/Drummond go? Better question, if they were on the Lakers would you match anything for them? Have that duo for the next 6-7 years?
Considering Monroe is unrestricted, that point is moot. Especially now that the cap will supposedly increase in 2 years that 5th year is more of a hindrance than an advantage for original teams.
Anyway, even without our top 5 pick, I think we can make vast improvements this off season. Just prioritize getting a center and a veteran point guard like Mo Williams. I realize after initial panic that it's not the end of the World if we lose the pick, there are more reliable FAs this year than last.
Because he took the lame duck qualifying offer this last off-season he will now be a UFA this upcoming off-season.
^ Yes and no. He bet on himself and then went out and had a solid year. He could easily have blown an Achilles and then he might have lost everything. I'm in the same boat though with liking @Doc Brown 's plan but paying Monroe over Lopez. I like Lopez a lot, but I don't think he gets that kind of cash next season. We also need a reliable scoring option. I know we all expect Randle to be that guy, but he's still a young kid and hasn't proven he can do it. Kobe is almost certainly going to get hurt or miss at least a few games. When that happens, we need a guy who can score 20 points on any given night without question. That'd be Monroe. Monroe and Randle aren't a perfect fit, but they're certainly dynamic offensively and actually would run the floor really well.
