I don't like how a player's draft pick or pre-season rookie rankings has so much inertia, but I guess this applies to practically everything in the NBA.

I'm not sure he's outplayed Payton just because of the stats Payton has put up this season. I don't blame Elfrid for his team tanking this season... I blame the cowardly Orlando FO that can't piece together enough wins to beat out the horrible C Bags in the East.

I just feel like Payton with all those stats and Vucevic, Harris and Oladipo next to him should be winning. They aren't so I question the stats as being empty. We have watched Clarkson's stats lead to wins or close games where we should be getting crushed.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I think the voters will. Either way Clarkson should be on that first team.

Who still thinks JC couldn't be a starter on a championship team? I get that you gotta see him play under some more competitive circumstances when games count, but we have a large enough sample size to see that his talent is legit. I think it'd be a big mistake to bting him off the bench next year. He's earned the right to start.

I don't think it'd be a huge mistake to have him off the bench, but he's certainly come close to proving he's worth starting on a good team. He's making the Top 5 pick slightly more expendable.

I'll put it this way: I'm going to look at Towns, Okafor, Cauley-Stein, Winslow, and Johnson before Mudiay or Russell because of Clarkson. I'd still love any of those guys, but that's how highly I regard him.

If Kendrick Perkins and Mario Chalmers can be starters on championship teams, then so can JC.

I totally agree on the guard thing. At this point, my draft board has shifted a bit. I too would take Winslow and WCS over Mudiay for sure and maybe even Russell.

A Russell/Clarkson backcourt would be pretty sweet though. But I agree that our draft needs have changed. We don't NEED a guard anymore as much as we need a center or wing.

I'd say start him next year; go after Dragic and if he doesn't sign and decides to stay in Miami, so be it. Go hard after Conley the following season; my true target.

We don't need Dragic or Conely, IMO. Through this season, Clarkson and Lin have actually been the one position that we have been holding our own at. Why blow our free agent load on our strongest position? We desperately need a center if we can't get Towns, Okafor or WCS. We desperately need a wing unless we think Randle can play sf and Love can be our pf. We started like 3 different dudes at center this season. We have Wes at sf. Let's spend our money there rather than a potentially mild (if any) improvement.

The beauty about Clarkson is the ability to play the PG/SG positions; he does both quiet well, and from witnessing him and Lin play together, I think Conley would be an eve better fit next to Clarkson since he's the better player than Lin. Conley's a better defender, better 3 point shooter, better off ball player and contributes on a winning team. Simply put, he's a top 10 PG. Conley is going to be available when the salary cap goes up, so you can afford 2 Max contracts (Love, Conley) and still have room to sign a center in free agency or draft one.

Minus Westbrook for a moment; let's just say we keep Lin on a relatively bargain of a deal this offseason, and you sign Love; this is what I'm talking about in 2016 provided we keep our pick and everything goes just right...

    Conley/Lin
    Clarkson/Brown
    Dekker/Young
    Love/Randle/Kelly
    Towns/Black

    That works for me.

That certainly works, but Randle could be better than Love in 2016-2017.

Well, I obviously love that, although Randle will be playing sf or be traded by that point most likely. That'd be his 3rd season.

I have a feeling Dekker will land in the 15-20 range unfortunately. His stock has skyrocketed since the start of this tournament, and it's only going up. D/E has him at 16 currently.

Say we get the 5th pick, and end up with the 27th pick.

With the 5th we grab WCS. Let's face it, this is our chance at a defensive anchor we desperately need at rookie rate.
With the 27th, I really liked Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, a workhorse of a SF that provides stellar energy and defense.

Ok, then let's go with your scenario

    Conley/Lin
    Clarkson/Brown
    RHJ/Young
    Love/Randle
    WCS/Black

How would you like this? RHJ goes before we think he does; you still high on Nigel Hayes, right? I haven't seen him play, personally, but I'll take your word that this kid can play; move him into the wing position. We need a certain type of wing; defender first, moves well off the ball, long, athletic, etc...Doberman backcourt, with a stud rim protector. :)
