Wild animals, and probably why the NFL let the chargers return instead of the Raiders.

Seachickens (credit of name to @John3:16) BBQ

    - Manuel showed up...captaincy, steady play and 3 TDs...do like him over Cook though that's not saying much
    - 3 fourth down stops
    - WR Hatcher solidifies spot on practice squad or elsewhere
    - WR Ateman has not dropped a pass
    - LB Cabinda: see Hatcher
    - Sluggo Spider 2Y Banana
    - already miss the trio of Mowins, Gannon and Millen...that sideline reporter Brick too
    - Millen sure says "darn" a lot
    - a back that can churn out the yards, wears down the defense, pass protect and catch the rock? Lynch? Yes and Warren too.
    - broadcast did not even mention RB Washington
    - CB Pringle...TE Brown are sure cuts.
    - Saturday will be crazy
    - another game...another shotgun snap over the QB's head
    - so glad Guenther is on board
    - ex K Janikowski missed two PATs?
    - now the build up of nerves prior to 9/10/18...

    Two other important things...

Aaron Donald gets six year, $132m. $87m guaranteed. Miller is six years, 114.5 with 70m guaranteed. Let's get Mack done. Can we go six years, $120m with 77 guaranteed? Split the difference between those two?

Second: start looking at cuts. David Bass (OLB), who was drafted by Oakland, was released by the Jets. He rated #42 among edge defenders last season, scoring good marks in run defense, pass rush, and coverage.

Still didn’t like to see King and Tavecchio gone. I’ll be checking to see if this rookie can handle the pressure. King’s leg was a good weapon to have.

King's release threw me off but accounts are that he wasn't a good influence in the locker room. Tavecchio was so-so. Speaking of punters, Lechler was let go by Houston. I don't know if it's me but Townsend's motion from catch to kick look's a tad slow.

I don't believe the trade rumors until it happens. I read a really interesting (but highly speculative) article on the "method" of waiting until late to get a deal in place for Mack. Essentially, Reggie likes to front load deals, but he can't do that with Mack because of the cap situation. He could, however, after letting Edwards go, offer $22m for year 1 of the deal, load for year 2, and have a decreasing cap hit (like Carr's contract).

I'm so torn about this, because Mack is definitely a top three favorite of mine (Carr and Cooper the other two), and he's really, really good. But that money is insane money, and if the Raiders can get two first rounders for Mack, that's a hefty haul without having shell out the loot.

Re: King and Tavecchio: King was better than Tavecchio, but King was an a******. I really like Pineiro, so I hope he's ready to go.

I like Mack and feel like we should have that lead talent that require 2 or 3 offensive guys to handle. This move would be the ultimate message to McKenzie from Chucky. I want Mack to stay where he is, be that anchor defensive guy that leads the defense.

ESPN local radio (L.A.) were saying the Patriots never had top tier defensive players that they paid a lot for. I don’t know the contracts for guys like Seymour, McGinnist and Bruschi, and a couple others in those days. But the point was that the Raiders didn’t need to pay a lot for one defensive player and that money is better spent on offense.

    - looks to be a done deal according to reports. At least he's going to the NFC. Guenther is probably not happy about this.

This better work out. I’m at the end of my rope with this franchise.

So what becomes of that loss of talent? We just downgrade by plugging someone already on the roster? I don’t see the benefit.

I don't know how long till the shock wears off...could be the whole damn season. Gruden is becoming a reincarnation of George Allen who wanted only vets 30 somethings at that. The staff must see a lot in Arden Key to justify this move. What @trodgers wrote that it could have been worked out financially which I read elsewhere. I'm with him that I don't believe it until it actually happens but where there's smoke there's fire.

Mack and Carr are the cornerstones of this team on each side of the ball. This is a real downer...trading away a generational talent. They'll probably use those draft picks on offense. By comparison, I'm feeling what I felt when O'Neal was traded though Mack is at the prime of his career at this point.

Looking at recent first round draft picks by the Raiders and Bears, for some perspective...

    2018
    Roquan Smith
    Kolton Miller

    2017
    Mitch Trubisky 12 starts, 7 AV/year
    Gareon Conley 0 starts, 0 AV/year

    2016
    Leonard Floyd 11 starts, 6 AV/year
    Karl Joseph 12 starts, 4.5 AV/year

    2015
    Kevin White 2 starts, 0.3 AV/year
    Amari Cooper 14 starts, 8.3 AV/year

    2014
    Kyle Fuller 12 starts, 4.0 AV/year
    Khalil Mack 16 starts, 11 AV/year

    Average starts per season: 12
    Average AV per season: 5
Awards: 33% chance of Pro Bowl

So, if we get two average players from the list, we're looking at two quality starters. And a lot less $$. I'm not passing judgment, just reporting.

@trodgers I see the logic and common sense but it is still a tough pill to swallow given Mack's game changing ability. So now what? The resurgence of Calhoun, the emergence of Brown and the potential of Key?

It will laughable if Gruden decides to trade those high draft picks for veteran talent again. McKenzie must stand his ground.
