I haaaaate how we treated the Jules/Mintz situation. We let an asset walk for nothing technically, when we coulda done something a whole lot more via trade, but there is a silver lining here.

We allowed Jules/Mintz to walk and get their deal via renouncing his QO. Meanwhile, look at how Boston and the rest of the teams (outside the Magic and Utah) dealt with their RFAs. That should be a sign to future free agents that LA at the very least tries to look out for their players: Lou to Htown for a playoff run, DLo/Moz to a big market in BK, Bogut and Brew let go for an opportunity to get some run elsewhere, Nance goes back home, JC gets postseason experience (but we probably did him dirty here by sending him to Cleveland haha)...meanwhile look at how Boston has done IT.

Lakers replaced him with Lebron James. He had no spot anyways. He is a big who can't shoot. He is a big who has bad fundamentals and worse, he is an iso big, which is about as bad of a talent in this era as you can have.

If he could pass a little it would have made a difference, but he didnt do that well either. He was the Al Jefferson of power forwards. His stats never resulted to effects in the game. Wish it did but it never did in 3 years of playing time.

@OX1947 He played nearly half his time at center last year and the rest of the time he could backup Bron with...so I'm not sure you needed to remove a 12m caphold for Bron when essentially we brought in Rondo immediately after we renounced him and he immediately got the same type of deal in NOP.

Jules totally fit the type of team we're building here right now: a bunch of bullies that can't shoot and stretch the floor. Jules versatility on defense and ability to rebound and push the break are exactly why we brought in Rondo and Stevenson. So there was an opportunity for him to stick via 1year deal. We have 7.3m in cap after signing Rondo to a 9m deal. I'm pretty sure we coulda fit both him and Jules in the 16m of room we had at (8m per).

We lost Jules cause of Mintz and we didn't have to lose him in the manner that we did cause Mintz/Jules were at our mercy.

Anyways, we coulda got something out of a 2014 7th round pick, but we got bubkis. I repeat, this is our FO's 1st legitimate L imho. We've been winning with nearly all their moves.. but this one leaves me feeling that there shoulda been more.

Yeah, the way we handled Jules and the reports that we coulda had Boogie, but chose not to, feels like something for Deng is lined up...or hopefully bigger (ie Kawhi). Otherwise why not do Jules/Boogie if you can still open up cap for Kawhi next summer. A Boogie deal pretty much is perfect for a wait and strike approach (ie Kawhi '19).

So it feels like we have something in our back pocket (Denver rumors for future 1sts...ATL and Sac having just enough to fit in Deng and haven't done anything to endanger that position).

But still, maybe the cap having teams might just be waiting to strike in case another RFA forces a team to renounce them like Mintz/Jules did with us.

There's a good chance the Lakers are monitoring the Capela situation in case something weird happens. If he got renounced for any reason I could see them making a big push for him. I suspect we've told Atlanta that we'd dump Deng to them if something opened up. There's some dominoes definitely waiting to fall.

I think the Lillard stuff is the most baseless stuff I've heard in awhile.

Homestly I don't know where that rumor started. I know he said he'd play in LA if it wasn't Portland but that was awhile ago. And that whole Ed Davis thing but otherwise where did all the trade rumors come from?

This probably came from sports writers putting words in Dame's mouth.

Without a doubt. If I’m a free agent, no way in hell I want to go to Boston. We treat our assets as people. They treat their people as assets. Kyrie and Hayward have already been in trade rumors. Ainge will discard you in a second.
