Like I said in the optimism thread, trading for Kawhi is actually foolish if we are championship or bust. Lonzo, Kawhi and an aging Lebron isn't enough to beat the Warriors, and we'd be out of cap space to add anything else to help in that endeavor. Our ONLY hope in competing with the Warriors is signing Kawhi with cap space and hoping Ingram turns into the 3rd star and Kuzma turns into our primo 6th man. To take out a juggler-knot you need a lot to happen. Rob and Magic are seeing 2-3 moves ahead.

I think it hurts we essentially lost Randle for nothing. If we could have s&t him to get any sort of asset (future picks, etc) it would have been okay.

It was NOT a Rondo for Randle swap because we had the space to sign Rondo outright.

Without trading some guys, the Stephenson/Rondo/KCP signings seem really odd.

KCP and Rondo make some sense. Stephenson is out of left field. Wouldn't be surprised if he's not on our roster come March.

If they did all these signings to prep for a Kawhi trade, not sure why they wouldn’t do the Kawhi trade first then fill out the roster...

I mean it sure seems like Rob and Magic are signing these guys and just hoping the kawhi trade comes later, which explains the oddball fit right now.

Also hearing on Cousins: may not be back on the floor until February as he recovers from torn Achilles.

You know it's bad when you actually need significant injuries to make a season watchable.

I hate to remind people of time but Lebron is turning 34 this year, there is no long term with a guy who may be 34 and in his 15th year, but his playoff runs have added another 5 or 6 years to that.

I assume we roll into next season with this starting 5:

    Rondo/Stevenson

    Ball/KCP

    Leonard/Kuzma

    LeBron/Wagner

    McGee/Lopez(?)

If we need to go small we can run

    Rondo

    Ball

    KCP

    Leonard

    LeBron

And thats fine too. I feel confident going up against the Rockets with that lineup. And if we make the WCF, anything can happen vs. Golden State, who are now coming off their 4th straight finals appearance.

We are at the cap now. We can't trade for Kawhi with just Ingram and Hart. Salaries have to match. Kawhi isn't coming this offseason. At the earliest we're talking December 15th ( I think that's the date) when we can trade players we signed this offseason.

We can trade for Kawhi first and sign those other guys with our cap exceptions after. Nothing is "official" until July 6th.

Although you are right in that I am optimistically assuming we shed Deng for 0 salary in return.

I'm afraid you're going to have to settle for 35 wins to 50 wins and a second round exit this season. Next season we will likely make some noise.

I'd really like to somehow add Tyreke and I feel we could use some veteran wings who can shoot but we really don't have enough playing time to go around as it is. Ideally if we can get a veteran PF and C that would help fill out the roster nicely.

We are being greatly underestimated here. To beat the Warriors you need perimeter defense, rim protection, solid rebounding, grit and determination. We have that. Offensively we will kill them. Warriors have no answer for Lebron. The rim protector that changed the finals series is now on our team. We have all our great young players a year better. 55 wins or better and we beat Boston in the finals. The Warriors are also battling mental fatigue, ripe for the picking. I'm sending money in for the new Rob/Magic statue. Plus we will get KL next season and have longevity. The next dynasty is starting sooner than I thought.
