I just can’t see any team not sure of a championship taking that big of a financial hit. There’s just basically no way it’s rational.

It doesn’t mean that they won’t do it, but it’s not rational.

They don't think like you and I do; PG and Russ think with the pieces around them they can win a championship. It's probably Russ whispering that into PG's ear; add to that, OKC players, management, recruiting him for the whole year up until July 1st where we can get our chance to persuade him.

If I were owners of that OKC team, I sure wouldn't pay those luxury taxes, though. They are not competing for a ring anytime soon.

I’m certainly rooting for Cousins, that’s a terrible injury. I can’t think of a single player that came back the same after, but at least he’s only about to turn 28, so there’s that. I also assume the help coming is for Anthony Davis and the Pelicans.

Comes across as desperate self marketing to get the best contract possible.

Not saying I wouldn’t be doing it too. 10’s of millions are at stake for a guy with likely few other options, who’s a free agent, wants max dollars in a tight market, and snapped his Achilles.

If I’m the Pelicans I don’t cave to a max offer. They did fine without him, and it’s not personal. It’s business.

Agree, and I wasn't the biggest fan of his to begin with; I'm not touching him unless he comes at a discount.

I just saw it as a progress upstate, and honestly I was impressed. I didn’t even expect him to be that far along at this point, considering this is an achilles and he had surgery around Feb 1st. Shows teams he could be back on the court not far into the season at all. I certainly wouldn’t give him max, it’d be a 1+1 offer, but the Pelicans aren’t a franchise that can turn away stars. They did “fine” without him, but they still lost in round 2, and the goal in this league isn’t “fine” when you have a star like Davis, it’s a championship.

Solid alternative perspective. Be interesting if he’d be so offended by a 1 and 1 offer that you wouldn’t want him around though.

Once they got their guy from Chicago, they really took off. This is an easy decision for me. Max guys are certain prime healthy athletes only for me.

Throw the sourpuss malcontent non winner history thing on top, and I’m not so interested without a super strong leader to keep him in check.

I don’t see Davis as that guy, or the Pels need as that desperate any longer

This sets the market on the type of deals 2nd round players and undrafted players will make this coming season.

1+1 (second year team option) at about 22 per for cousins seems fair to me. team is protected, he gets more than he was earning last year. if things go well, early bird rights are enough to offer him his 10-year max at the appropriate time. everyone wins. i don't see anyone offering him a long-term deal right now unless it's low money.

i could definitely see a S&T, too (in fact, this makes a lot of sense for both parties: NO and cousins). though those have to be for three years, so the above contract structure can't work.

Yeah. Hard to think of a worse pairing than Cuban and Coward. Remember he got into it with Lamar and questioned his commitment to his face? Can you imagine what happens when Cuban catches wind (no pun intended) of Dwight’s antics?

    ^^^^Brilliant! Hahaha

Speaking of crap...the Knicks kinda got nothing for Melo, if this is true...

Also, this definitely affects the Julius/Blo market. Kanter was the 2nd leading offensive rebounder in all the land and led even Sirron, as the leader in trolln LLLLLL.

Wow. Who the hell is going to pay Anus Kanter more than that?

The Melo trade was addition by subtraction. They got to be rid of him, Porzingis got to the the #1 guy, and he was great before he got hurt.
