I don't expect much from him...at maybe at a more appropriate time, a coach that we desire will become available at that time.

To me, Scott is a bad coach to hire when you are trying to rebuild or your team is just going through the motions.

Now... when your team is ready to compete and win a championship I do think he could be a good coach for us.

In the end, time will tell

I think the absolute, complete opposite.

When it's time to draw up a play and execute, Byron is not good. When it comes to building a culture of hard wok and discipline, Byron is great. When the Championship is on the line, I want the first guy.

Games like this are exactly why Byron is a good coach for a rebuilding team. I know you're all in love with tanking, but I'd like to believe that's only because of the protections on our pick. If the pick was unprotected and we weren't fighting for the bottom five spots, I'd love (and really I hope) that you guys wouldn't be as concerned with losing every single game.

Therefore a couple of wins against good teams would be GOOD things. They'd be signs of a burgeoning culture of fighting hard and not giving up against teams that are better than you. I LOVE that we put up such a great fight against a truly great team. Without Kobe, without Randle, without Young and... eh who cares about Nash?

The point is games like last night are WHY you need Byron for the rebuild. When things start to turn around though and we've got the talent to really compete, we either need a lead Assistant Coach who knows Xs and Os really well or we need a new Head Coach who can do that. Look at what Golden State did with Mark Jackson and Steve Kerr. That's precisely what I want from Byron.

It took 3 or 4 interviews for the FO to settle on Byron; apparently, there was no one better available that could fit or that had the respect of Kobe who at the very least had 2 more years here. I don't see much to get excited about with Byron; there's nothing taking place here that another competent coach couldn't do; Lakers ties and a mutual relationship with Kobe are what got him this job.

For now, he's here, I just have to deal with it. Awful coach in almost every aspect...

If every coach could build a culture of hard work and discipline, then Brown and D'Antoni would still be here.

If MDA were still here; we have more wins. Late season conditioning, suicides at training camp, suicides after the All-Star break, suicides just a week ago, doesn't constitute a culture of hard work and discipline. It speaks of a coach who is stuck in the 80's and treats his practices like high school.

For the record, I don't like MDA nor Brown; but Byron is considerably worse...

I'd have to side with therealdeal on this one. Not every coach can maximize effort out of his players. I could tell the team respects and believes in Byron.

That's why he has more of his player's respect than either of those coaches? I'm sorry, but the culture in HERE is an "I hate Byron" culture and that's fine. That doesn't mean he's a worse overall coach than D'Antoni or Mike freaking Brown.

Last season's team was more talented than this one and they won only about 10 more games. D'Antoni got no respect from the players and that's why he's not here.

    Drawing up plays: Byron- D D'Antoni- B+
Getting players to buy in: Byron- C D'Antoni- F
    Rotations: Byron- D D'Antoni- D
Establishing rapport with team: Byron- B- D'Antoni- F
    Handling LA's bright lights: Byron- B D'Antoni- F
    Establishing hardworking culture: Byron- A D'Antoni- F

Just because this is an awful season, doesn't mean we need to rewrite the past. D'Antoni did one thing well and the rest was some of the worst coaching the Lakers have ever had. He alienated not just Gasol, but Jordan Hill too. He was awful with the media. He alienated the fans. He overworked his players just as badly as Byron Scott. His players neither liked him as a person or respected him as a coach. Where is D'Antoni significantly better? And please don't get the same tired statistics with wins-losses. That's the easiest argument to make because its riddled with assumptions. If Byron Scott had Steve Nash and Amar'e Stoudemire in their primes, I'm sure he would have been just fine. If D'Antoni went to Cleveland to coach right when LeBron left, I'm sure he would have struggled too. Byron has captained three rebuilds and those teams are better now than they were when he got there. New Orleans was more competitive when he left (then they traded Chris Paul). Cleveland he helped developed Kyrie Irving who still calls him his favorite coach and a mentor.

Byron Scott is far from great. I don't want him to be our coach when we have a competitive team, but he does one thing well and your argument would be better if you admitted it. Byron Scott makes his players work hard and he earns their respect. Our team works harder against good competition than they have any right of doing. We aren't getting blown out by 50 points like we did last year against the Clippers.

Last year we had two teams put up 140 points on us and three others scored 130. One of those teams was the Wolves. This season only two teams have scored that much against us: Dallas and Golden State. That was back in November. In fact as the season has gone along, teams have put up less and less points against us. The games in which the opposition scores a lot, we tend to be close to them these days.

Hate all you want, but Byron is doing a good job of establishing a better culture than we've had in a long time. I'll at least give him credit for that.

    Ok.

Again, you said all that, to say absolutely nothing; that figures. You're in the minority in the fanbase, Real. Sorry. Everybody knows that Byron is an idiot. Keep supporting him, though.

I'm with Real. I hate Byron. I thought it was a terrible hire and I think he's a moron with his anti-tanking-doing everything in his power to win-mindset. But the talent on this team is the worst in the league along with NY and Philly. Yet we are in most games and competing. There is will and fight in this team. There is genuine disappointment on their faces when they lose. Byron is a terrible coach. He is hardheaded and it's to the long-term detriment of this franchise. But his team works hard. His team doesn't quit.

He's a better coach than Mike Brown. The dump I took this morning is a better coach than Mike Brown. He is not a better coach than D'Antoni, but he is a better leader of men than D'Antoni.

There is no way Byron is worse than Brown. Brown wanted to implement the freaking Princeton Offense when we had just acquired freaking Steve Nash and Dwight Howard. Remember that chart in the movie Forest Gump when Forest was told he needed to go to special school? Brown is below that dotted line.

Well said. When it comes down to actually drawing up a play and learning basketball, D'Antoni is better. But D'Antoni is one of the absolute worst leaders I've ever seen and in the NBA that's incredibly important. Phil Jackson was never the best Xs and Os coach, but he was one of the absolute greatest leaders of all time. His Zen-style was perfect for his teams and he got every player to buy in and play their hearts out. That's not to say Phil was bad with Xs and Os, just that he had a lot of help in that department from Tex Winters and some great assistants.

I thought so. I know you're style. You've made your case known for supporting Byron and why for months including on Club Lakers. Why should I respond when I know your position and how you're going to combat me; it's fruitless, IMO. I gave him a chance up until this point in the season. He's a disaster, IMO.

Brown and Byron are equivalent; not one is better than the other. One is out of the league and one will be out of the league in 2 seasons. MDA was better than both from an X's and O's standpoint, IMO.

Can we revisit this? Timeout, Lakers down 3, 10.5 left, and BYRON IS JUST STANDING THERE DURING THE TIMEOUT.

At the end of the day, I just can't get upset with Byron when we lose games and get upset with Byron when we find ways to win. I will also keep repeating that for all of his faults, he has the least talent to work with of anyone post Phil. Brown was in over his head.

D'Antoni is maybe half the coach he thinks he is and really did squat with a much better roster. If anyone ever ran a poll for most overrated coaches, he would certainly get a vote from me. No one fails upward better D'Antoni. Losing the Phoenix job and ends up in NYC. Blows that job (which also had much better talent than we do and immediately performed better once he was gone) and ends up coaching the Lakers. Just unreal to me. For all his supposed great X's and O's he couldn't figure out what to do with Gasol, Dwight, Hill, etc. I would go on, but @therealdeal really did break it down well in my opinion. The guy just plain sucked as Lakers coach and I just don't think he would do better than Byron is doing.
