Was just thinking if no PG, Lebron, Kawhi...
Retain Julius, sign Cousins and Thomas on one year deals.

    Lonzo/Thomas/Caruso
    Hart/Mykhailiuk/Newman
    Ingram/Kuz
    Randle/Bryant
    Cousins/Wagner/Zu

That's 13 spots just for fun. Not too bad imo. We'd have an exception to still possibly use on the last 14th spot right? Another SF/small ball 4 would be good. If not Wear/Carroll/Berry/Payton II/Andre Ingram fight for last spot.

I can see this and have thought the same.

I think KCP will continue with us especially if we sign LeBron.

It'll be interesting to see the kind of cash he commands. I think he's a solid player, but I'm not sure he did enough last season to distinguish himself. How much money is he going to command? Trevor Ariza wants 60 million. How much worse is Pope than Trevor? 30 million? 40 million? I'm not sure we'll be able to afford him.

I also think he is coming back because PG may want to stay in OKC.

I thought he had a fairly solid year despite the bad December. I also think DeAndre Jordan will be a Laker.

Eff that. Need the money for Randle hopefully with good deal. We have an improved Hart returning.

Eff DJ too. Clipper stink. Sign BroLo to room exemption.

With respect to DJ, LBJ wanted to play with him last year. Unfortunately, for LBJ, Cleveland couldn't complete the deal.

We know PG is the first choice; but if he decides to stay in OKC; then DJ is a contingency plan...IMO

I think last night's selection of Wagner signals the end of Julius's time here in Lakerland. If Lebron is coming, he's coming to play the 4 which means Julius's only chance for big minutes is at the 5. Wagner strikes me as the ideal 5 to put with Lebron; a big that can board and shoot the 3. That pick told me a few things. We couldn't find a taker for Deng's contract at a price that made sense for us so we will be stretching him. Julius won't be back. Lebron and PG are indeed coming making Julius's offensive contributions less important.

Yeah who needs his physicality with all the @nolongerwussy talented bigs in the league. Hopefully Mo is a tough emm effer who can keep from being punked by stronger guys. Randle ....the one "likes to fight down low guy" we had.

But have to agree with your Deng still here and our picks used observation and you may be right.

I see your point but I’m not so sure. I think there are many scenarios yet to play out and I firmly believe the front office doesn’t even know until the dust settles after free agency. My gut tells me Jules remains with the Lakers.

Honestly, I wouldn’t bring him back. He was super frustrating to watch and his defense was overrated. He gambled way too much for steals and had poor shot selection. He has a low basketball IQ. He doesn’t seem like a fit to me.... but what do I know!

I think Hart makes KCP expendable. He replicates what KCP does (and does a better job) for far less money. Plus, Hart is about the team whereas KCP is all about himself.

I'd much rather have Hart eat up those backup 2 and some 3 minutes than have KCP. I've said it already but maybe hart play some backup 1 if he's improved enough in that area.

I don't know that Pope and Hart are mutually exclusive.

If things go as planned, we'll still need bench players. Pope is young still and provided decent spark. To me he's a bench guy that we're unlikely to be able to afford if we pick up the players we want, but he'd make a good add if we could figure it out.

And we could also use him as an asset to trade (for Kawhi) in case that becomes an option...we need useful players on team friendly deals, so we may possibly add another star.

But how would you split of the minutes for the bench guys? Granted I know we don't have a full roster yet of who all bench guys will be.

Hart and Pope split minutes at the backup 2/3 spots. We probably need a 1 for the bench still.

I thought Pope was very useful myself; and quite frankly, the best FA we've had in years. This is a wing dominated league as of right now; maybe that changes, but having nothing short of interchangeable wings who can guard and switch 1-3 can be very effective, and we have witnessed that with GS over the years.

If his buddy Lebron is coming to get Los Angeles, and wants the Lakers to keep him, I think they oblige. He's also young, growing, and you can move him if you need to; Josh may eventually be a starter, but having him come off the bench gives us so much depth...
