So I spent the morning looking into Jacob Evans because I've got a feeling he could be the guy we pass up on at #25 just like last year I was on Semi Ojeleye.

In games he takes a rhythm three pointer that's got a ton of moving parts to it. He dips down first and then puts it up which is always a no-no. In games, Evans is such a twitchy athlete that he's able to get the shot off easily and repeatedly. It helps that his jumper is a legitimate jumper and he gets off the ground really smoothly.

However, in drills I don't think his shot is going to look as good since he's not really in a rhythm. Take a look at his shot in this drill:

His release point is all over the place and the only shots he makes are ones he kind of bounces into to catch a rhythm. It doesn't bode well as a catch-and-shoot player. Then he gets into his own head and screws up the Mentality drill.

I have a feeling he'll be a solid pro and when we look at this draft we'll say "oh he was solid" after he goes somewhere in the low 20s, possibly even to Golden State. We'll pass him up though for a player that is more confident in their ability to put the ball in the basket in these types of drills and situations. For what it's worth, Evans's slide tells me he's struggling with his shot in all the workouts and teams are afraid he won't be able to fix it.

where was the coaching for this kid? so many of these guys just got no instruction from little on up; it's amazing they've made it this far on natural ability.

anyway, i agree: i like the scouting report on him and think he might have promise as a defender right away. problem is that he'll need a total shot reconstruction. who's going to invest the time?

Teams are going to be upset about missing on Young.

Somewhat like Kemba. Not as nasty with the handle, but a better, more explosive shooter.

A lot of people did the same with Curry. He's probably one of the more known quantities of the lottery picks. Kid is a bonafied scorer.

In short he's looking at Melton, Simons, and (a reach) for Mykhailiuk.

Mykhailiuk has been my guy all along. I'm really hoping we can get him. I wouldn't take him before Melton, but I wouldn't be mad if we took him before Simons. Simons is dripping with talent, but could be a year from being a year from being ready and might never figure it out.

If we reached on Mykhailiuk, I wouldn't be too mad about it. That means someone else is likely to slide in the 2nd that we can nab at 47.

Those guys sound like early second round prospects. I don't see us reaching for them at #25, but I could see us trading down to grab a few of them.

I want a player with an elite skill at #25, whether it be Khyri Thomas and his defense, Huerter and his shooting, DiVi's all around hustle, or Robinson's athletic upside.

Mykhailiuk is one of the best shooters in this draft and Melton is one of the better defenders in this draft as well. Those are NBA ready skills that they possess today. Both of them also have underrated all-around games that should help them ease into the NBA.

I wouldn't be mad at Khyri Thomas. Don't forget the Lakers "reached" on Nance and Kuzma too.

I saw Kuz on a lot of mocks around our pick last year, Nance was definitely out of left field.

I'm sure we'll definitely get another surprise pick, we're definitely becoming the new age Spurs when it comes to finding late draft talent.

It’s a shame his name doesn’t end in “ic”, then I’d be sold. We need an “ic”. We had an “ic” one time, but he was only good in practice, although he still did sink championship-clinching free throws. Saric, Jokic, Nurkic, Bogdanovic, Mirotic, Teletovic, Vucevic, and soon to be Doncic too. Some day our “ic” will come.

I'd really like to find add a defensive ace. Someone who prides themselves on playing tough, hardnosed defense, creating turnovers, and creating havoc. Just based on our current makeup, and who we'd likely add, that is one area we're still lacking, even more than shooting.

Keita Bates-Diop, Khyri Thomas, Jacob Evans, De'Anthony Melton, or Melvin Frazier come to mind for me.
