I haven't really stressed this in any of my posts on this subject yet but I really don't think we can ignore the fact that I don't think Kawhi would fair well with the media attention in LA if he were to come here via trade or free agency. I know some will say, Oh he'll be fine. But I don't think we really understand how quiet Kawhi likes to be and how quickly the media if our team isn't doing well can hound Kawhi day in and day out with questions. That will impact him maybe more so then others.

No, we'd absolutely have to trade him for no salary. In fact even if we do that we don't technically have enough room for full maxes for George and LeBron. I just figure playing with Kawhi might convince them to take a tiny cut.

i'm not buying the kawhi stuff. i think popovich would actually try to ensure he doesn't end up with the lakers, and i don't think the spurs, of all organizations, will respond well to a forced trade attempt. i expect him to be shipped to philly if they can't come to an agreement. fultz/saric/10th pick or future first (if philly plays hardball). i could see boston, too. just not the lakers.

lillard, on the other hand, i could see...portland let aldridge walk a few years ago, so there's precedent for blowing up and attempting a quick rebuild. we'd have to give up some assets, though, and they're not taking deng with their cap situation, which complicates things.

anyway, none of this is even considered unless PG and lebron agree to come aboard. and since PG's staying in OKC and lebron's probably discussing offensive tweaks with dantoni and paul as i type....

Last year when George demanded the trade to LA, we had the leverage to sit tight knowing we can sign him now.

But we wouldn’t really have that in negotiations with San Antonio would we? Because it seems like the goal would be teaming Kawhi with George and Lebron. But if we sign them two, we wouldn’t have the room to just outright sign Kawhi as a free agent in 2019 right?

I wasn't saying we'd get him. I was just saying Pelton wrote an article about it. Zero, zero, zero chance he's traded here. Boston can put together the best package, by far.

It comes down to how hard he fights to be here honestly. If he fights hard enough for it, he can drive the offers down on the other teams and the Lakers' offer might top out. Slim chance, but possible.

I don't see a team really gutting themselves to get to him knowing he'll walk. The same happened with George.

Two things will happen. Spurs offer him the Super Max, which he will take. Or they dont offer it and he waits it out til next year unless the Spurs trade him to some rinky dink team where he wont agree to extend like Paul George did.

If that is the case, Lakers get George and Lebron this summer, than when they can clear Deng to hell, go after Kawhi next year.

I’ll be stunned if the Spurs offer him the SuperMax after all the drama this year. If they do it will reveal that they have become so desperate that the San Antonio way is now dead.

On the other hand, if he wants to, Kawhi can force his way to the team of his choice in trade by simply making it known he will only resign with that team.

And I believe the Spurs are a classy enough organization that will meet a player's demand. Though a lot of what we would give up is predicated on how adamant Kawhi is about coming here.

This coming off the rumors from yesterday that Denver is aggressively trying to move Faried/14th pick.

I'm merging recent Kawhi to LA related posts to the new thread.

Dude doesn't deserve to be bundled up in this thread.

I'm with you on the Leonard stuff. I think Pop would literally rather send him anywhere else.

What if we end up with Kawhi, Leonard and PG? We'd have absolutely nothing left and have to fill in our roster with scrubs, but damn if that's not a nice team set up for a good 6 year run.

Full blown conspiracy thoughts, Lebrons making it look good so we won't get hit with a tampering fine. :Fishwink:

That is not the rumor I saw. :D I saw that his kids were enrolling in a private school in Houston, except only one source has claimed that and he said he heard it from somebody and can't actually get onto the campus.

And the Clipper/C Bags talk is pure:
