Draft Thread 2018: LA Has The #25 & #47 Overall Picks... And #39 Now

I'm going to be honest, Tony Carr sounds like the kind of guy we target. Wants to compete in everything, supremely confident, multi-talented. @abeer3 should we call it now?

 

Here's a pretty rare look into what these workouts actually look like. Anfernee looks like a baby to me. Showed some solid shooting ability and is definitely a smooth leaper. A crazy young guy who looks most definitely like a project. Looks like he's going to take a couple years to fill out.

 

Last year there were nine rookies who scored 30 or more points: Donovan Mitchell (9x), Kyle Kuzma (4x), Ben Simmons (2x), Lauri Markkanen (2x), Alec Peters, Damyean Dotson, Dillion Brooks, Josh Jackson, and Josh Hart. (Lonzo had 29 in one game; Brooks, J. Jackson, and Mitchell twice all were one point away as well).

Last year there were nine rookies who had double digit assists: Ben Simmons (26x), Lonzo Ball (13x), Dennis Smith (6x), De'Aaron Fox (4x), Frank Ntilikina (2x), Milos Teodosic, Shaquille Harrison, Markelle Fultz, and Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Last year there were 13 rookies with 260+ rebounds: Ben Simmons, John Collins, Lauri Markkanen, Kyle Kuzma, Jayson Tatum, Jarrett Allen, Bam Adebayo, Lonzo Ball, Josh Jackson, Donovan Mitchell, Daniel Theis, Josh Hart, Dennis Smith Jr. In that order. Keep in mind Lonzo missed 30 games and Hart only started in 23 games.

Last year there were 8 players who had 5+ steals in a game: Lonzo Ball (3x), Ben Simmons (3x), Frank Ntilikina (2x), Davon Reed, Donovan Mitchell, Jawun Evans, Myke Henry, and Jonathan Isaac.

Last year there were 13 rookies with 4+ blocks in a game: Jarrett Allen (5x), John Collins (5x), Jordan Bell (4x), Maxi Kleber (3x), Lonzo Ball (2x), Jayson Tatum (2x), Zhou Qi, Bam Adebayo, Khem Birch, Josh Jackson, Luke Kornet, De'Aaron Fox, and Ben Simmons.

Last year only 5 rookies made 7 or more threes in a game: Lauri Markkanen, Alec Peters, Josh Hart, Kyle Kuzma, and Donovan Mitchell.

I went on this exercise after watching Josh Hart's last game replay. Here's a list of players taken before Josh Hart and Kyle Kuzma that had no business taken before them: Jonathan Isaac, Frank Ntilikina, Zach Collins, Malik Monk, Luke Kennard, Bam Adebayo, Justin Jackson, Justin Patton, DJ Wilson, TJ Leaf, Harry Giles, Terrance Ferguson, Tyler Lydon, Anzejs Pasecniks, and Caleb Swanigan.

I suppose what I'm getting around to is: whoever the Lakers pick at this point, they've got my trust.

 

I still hope this thread is the most useless 30+ page thread in this sites history as we've traded the pick to dump Deng.

But right now, I'm still taking DiVincenzo if he's available. I get the point Vash made about need. It's a solid point. But I just feel like Donte is being really undervalued. He can shoot and he's a top flight athlete. Couple those two things with an obvious flair for the big stage and good pedigree...

 

I don't know much about these guys and there's not a ton of available footage.



Marcus Derrickson- 6'7", PF, Junior, Georgetown. He plays an interesting game. He can space the floor, rebounds pretty well, and is a decent passer. The problem is he's listed at 6'7" and plays like a stretch Center because he's heavy and lacks foot speed. Height isn't as restrictive as it used to be for the NBA, but this looks more like a G-League stash than a draft pick.



Matt Farrell- 6', PG, Senior, Notre Dame. I feel like we've talked about him before. First off, his name is a perfect fit for Notre Dame. Secondly, he's a big time shooter. He shot 38% over his final two seasons. He's pretty efficient. Size and athleticism could be restrictive in the NBA.



Zach Lofton- 6'4", G, S-Senior, New Mexico State. Lofton is a pretty interesting prospect and not all for good reasons. He's a 6-year senior, taking the most circuitous path possible to the NBA. He's shown NBA ability at times, but comes with significant baggage. I chose that video because, while Lofton doesn't have a perfect game, he's playing against two presumptive NBA players (one a lottery pick) in Lonnie Walker and Bruce Brown. It's hard to say whether he's dominating because he's older or if his skills actually translate. He seems like the kind of guy who could really excel in the G-League and find his way into the NBA.

 

Justin Johnson- 6'7", F, Western Kentucky, Senior. Johnson is a stat stuffer as well a jersey stuffer. He's a little heavy for a guy his size (listed at 237 lbs. but looks much heavier), but a decent leaper anyway. He turned himself into a deep threat over his four years in school. He averaged nearly 16/10/1/1/1 as a senior. I'm not sure I see an NBA guy, but could be a G-League stash, maybe a Summer Leaguer.



Daxter Miles Jr.- 6'3", G, Western Virginia, Senior. The backcourt mate of one of our previous workouts, and Combine star, Jevon Carter. Miles Jr. is actually pretty interesting. He started pretty often, but didn't play many minutes (hovered just over 20 sophomore/junior year, then jumped to 28 his senior year). He's just an okay shooter, but he spends most of his time attacking. I chose this video because it shows the kind of competitor he is on the floor. Here is a video of what his game typically looks like (actually a really good game for him). Not a real point guard which makes him a very small SG at the next level. Could be a great G-Leaguer though.



Tyler Nelson- 6'3", G, Fairfield, Senior. Here's an extremely long video courtesy of Erik Tesauro who watches Tyler Nelson like a hawk apparently. Nelson is a solid scorer, but mostly a shooter. He took an insane 8.9 threes per game (53.7% of his shots came from outside). I don't know much about him and I can't find a lot of better videos than Erik's weird, shot-from-high-in-the-stands, home videos. Looks like another G-Leaguer to me.
