Not at 20 million. That debilitates the Lakers ability to improve the team. Randle is a role player. Pure and simple. He isn't a star.

I think 15 mill is fair but point is we could use him.

Not to question your Basketball Ph.D but a 20/10 player is much closer to a star than a role player.

First of all, Julius is not a 20-10 player. 2nd, he is a career 13-8 player. And 3rd and most important, Julius has been in the league 4 years, 3 playing the full year and has led the Lakers to 0 playoff appearances. HE ISN'T A STAR! The PHD is in the results. Not my opinion.

If the Lakers sign Julius to a 5 year 60-80 million dollar contract, the Lakers will regret it.

Julius as a starter in 49 games averaged 18.6/9.1/3.1 this year. That's in 29 minutes. Give him 2-3 minutes and he's a legit 20/10 player.

What does the playoffs have to do with Julius' star potential? Kyrie and Boogie never sniffed the playoffs earlier in their career. Terrible argument.

That whole, "they take less money" signing elsewhere is not really true. Especially if they are young. Klay makes up that money signing an extension a few years later.

He has become a 20/10 player. Calling him a role player is a bit off IMO. Im not saying he's a star either though, but he's more than a role player. He can be a major piece on a playoff team. Has he done it yet? No. But that doesnt' mean he won't. His defense was impressive this year too.

$10 plus a family of crows for you for all your hyperbole when he gets signed. But you'll have the satisfaction of knowing the entire FO has proved they're not as smart as you.

I'd be pretty estatic if Julius signed a 5/60 deal, 12 million a season? Highly unlikely though.

    I actually like that one.
    :Magic2:

In all seriousness though, Julius' numbers as a starter is comparable to prime Paul Millsap, who is a 4-time allstar. His stats during those 4 years?

    Paul Millsap
    2013-14
    17.9pts 8.5reb 3.1ast (28 years old)
    2014-15 16.7pts 7.8reb 3.1ast (29 years old)
    2015-16 17.1pts 9.0reb 3.3ast (30 years old)
    2016-17 18.1pts 7.7reb 3.7ast (31 years old)

    Julius Randle as starter
    2017-18
    18.6pts 9.1reb 3.1ast (23 years old)

I'm not sure how anyone can conclude that Julius would never become a star. He's going to keep improving, working on his jumper and defense. He's a super versatile big; a Millsap/Draymond/Zbo/Barkley hybrid. These type of players don't grow on trees.

    Role player as his ceiling?

Well what we can absolutely agree on is that Julius has improved every single season in the league. Trying to put an artificial ceiling on him due to our team record is completely unfair. Most young players struggle. It is extremely rare when a young person shows up and the team immediately has a great year with the rookie being a key cog. Magic might be the only one who fits that with the Lakers.

Kobe came off the bench for two years and only started 7 games those years. The team was successful, but not due to Kobe.

The Cavs won just 35 games with LeBron.

Jordan didnt win 50 games until his 4th season. He went to the Playoffs but was bounced in the 1st round for three years. Also keep in mind Jordan and Magic went to college first.

I'm not saying Julius is those guys, but if they barely measure up to that standard of "playoffs or bust" then who does? If that is our bar for "star", we wont see a "star" for a long time. Ball and Ingram also are not "stars" and should be jettisoned apparently.

Said he would take $12 Million to start the year, but we wouldn't agree to that. He has done everything the coaching staff and management has wanted of him. Played in 82 games, only Laker to do that, and is already back in the gym working on his game.

I'd say $15 Million is not going to get it done. I'd say $18-21 Million and I'm fine with that.

Also anyone talking about Randle's career PPG average, the dude plays what 10-15 minutes of his rookie year before being out for the whole year.... guess what, that season counts toward his career PPG average so lets not forget that. Of course it's going to be lower than most.

You always want to hold onto home grown talent and Jules work ethic of late makes it easy to root for the guy... But if he's around 20M per, he's going to be the first name in nearly any trade rumor. For those that sincerely want him in LA and to stay a Laker, I'm thinking you are hoping he re-ups to a 15M per deal... Cause anything north of that makes him trade fodder imho. And if the 2max plan doesn't show decent chemistry, they'll be even more prone to use Jules and his contract to fix that puzzle (ie trading for a 3rd namer).

Agree to disagree on anything above 15M the Lakers are going to be looking to trade him any opportunity. Personally feel they would be pleased with up to 17-18 which in and of itself is likely to be a large hometown discount from another team throwing more at him. And especially if Magic and Rob can pull off 2 stars coming in additionally. But of course the less spent the better.

You think he's going to command a salary much greater than 17-18 million per year?
