Oh oh, let me try one.... So they made it half way to a billy in a snap...essentially leaving fast & furious in the dust.
Saw it tonight, loved it, will watch it again many, many times. What a great movie!!!! I had great expectations and it exceeded them quite a bit. Definitely top 3 fav superhero movies of all time, maybe even No. 1. Now let's check out this Captain Marvel character...
Saw it for a second time. Damn it's a good movie. Is it the best Marvel movie? No. I still give the edge to Winter Soldier. But it is definitely the most impressive movie if that makes sense. I'm not sure it could have been the best movie just because of everything that had to be woven into it when standalone movies can tell a more concise story. But the monumental task of weaving everyone in there was awe-inspiring, and even more impressive the second time when things sort of slowed down for me.
Best marvel movie to me. I've been wanting to watch it a second time. Longest year ever to wait for the next one
A lot of people I know still put Winter Soldier above Infinity War, I really need to go rewatch that. But yes, second seeing of IW is still great.
I haven't decided where to put it in terms of top Marvel movies. I do think this is one of the most impressive director jobs I've seen. Not because it's a groundbreaking plot, but it's a unique plot and the way the wove all those story lines from all the 800m dollar franchises into a singular story is flat out impressive. To nail the Guardians, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Dr. Strange so thoroughly with all the varying tones is a hell of a challenge. I don't know about rankings, but I'd put it in the top tier. Tier one: Guardians 1, Cap 2, Black Panther, and Infinity War. Tier two: Civil War, Spider-Man, Guardians 2, Iron Man Tier three: everything else Tier four: Hulk and Thor 2
Well, I finally caught up to the rest of the freaking world and saw Infinity War today. I won’t post any in-depth thoughts because you folks have said them all, I read all your posts over the last week and change you all covered it. That’s how you pay off a decade of movies of universe movies all leading to one goal. God damn that was some fantastic movie viewing. So many awesome interactions between characters that never have before. So many “oh s***” moments in a good way and a “oh god no!” way. So much trademark Marvel humor that doesn’t make light of or take away from the gravity of it all in any way. And finally the best Marvel villain yet, with real depth and weight and ridiculously scary power. Great voice work by Josh Brolin (and possibly mo-cap of his face?), and he looked fantastic compared to some other CGI characters, even in this same film. You could see Brolin in the face, the eyes, the nose, there was life to that character. I’ve only seen it once, so I can’t say where it ranks yet in all the Marvel films, but I can say I personally enjoyed it more than Black Panther (the most recent one I’d seen before this). I don’t know if I can put it as my personal favorite yet, I still love Winter Soldier so much, as well as Guardians 1, but this is up there after only one watch. Final thoughts Spoiler: Spoilers God dammit, Quill! They had the guantlet almost entirely off! Luckily we only have to wait one year for part 2. God damn those final scenes, watching characters we’ve come to care about so much flat away in ash, my jaw dropped, I was stunned. I know some have to come back like Black Panther, Spider-Man, half the Guardians (they have sequels already slated, so they have to, right?!?!), but still. Some long time fan favorites appear to be dead dead, like Loki. Hey, I finally get all the memes too! Anyway, looking very much forward to part 2, and Captain Marvel as well after that last tease after the credits. I could talk about this movie all damn day, but yeah that’s enough for now. Oh wait, one last thing, Thor is 1500 years old. Only thing I thought of when he said that was “gross, that means Jane was like a baby to him, cradle robbing, dude, should have gone with Sif”. Also Thor was awesome in this, literally, should have gone for the hand though.
Spoiler: Quill and Thor First of all: how great are their interactions? Second of all for Quill: I really felt for him then and I don't blame him for reacting that way. I know they almost had the glove, but if you think about the situation, it's very similar to Tony's in Civil War. That's why Tony was the one who spoke out and tried to get Quill to calm down. I don't blame him for what he did. All the heroes had moments that they could have done something better or something different. Why didn't Thor cut his hand off? Why didn't Tony use his nanobots to go into the gauntlet and push it away from Thanos's hand. Why didn't Strange try to close a portal on Thanos's hand the way Wong did with Cull? Hell why didn't Strange try to use the Time Stone? As for Thor, I don't know if we talked about it on here enough but the scene when he shows up on Earth is AMAZING. When he goes off with his hammer and yells for Thanos, my hair stands on end. I've seen it twice and the theater cheered loudly both times it happened. Like you said: what a damn fun theater experience!
Spoiler Regarding Quill, I was mainly joking. I’ve seen those “pissed at Quill” memes around for a week and now I finally get it. Your point is well taken though, and I agree, everyone failed (and succeeded with great courage all around) in their own way. I feel like groups being separated the entire time is what really caused them to not be successful, and that’s in a way masterful in how it was set up over many, many movies. But, it led to some awesome NEW team-ups in this one, like Stark and Strange, Thor and Rocket. And yes, that Thor scene is amazing, I loved seeing him go full god powers in Ragnarok, and I loved seeing it here. I liked Black Panther a lot (though seemingly not as much as most others, it’s was very good for me, but not top tier in my personal rankings). This movie had multiple fist pump in the air, nerd chills moments for me, where I can’t really remember any from BP. Not trying to knock that one or anything, but if given the choice I’d watch IW over that again and again. Same with Winter Soldier, I’ve seen that one so many times and I never get sick of it.
Spoiler: Re: Quill We've also just seen him react the same way after finding out about his mom during Guardians 2. He was very much in character. As for all the "could haves", I think each hero was taking Thanos for granted. Yes they had warnings about his power but heroes always figure it out and win right? And now after losing half the team, hindsight is 20/20. (That was better worded in my head)
Spoiler: Re:sequels i think the guardians and Spider-Man sequels are going to take place before infinity war, so the characters could stay dead. We all know they won't though. Gog 3 is almost certainly going to show quill and gamora surpassing the friend zone and ending with thanos destroying xandar and getting the power stone
Spoiler Everyone that died with Thanos "snap" is coming back. The second Black Panther disappeared I knew that thing was getting reversed. His movie just made a billion dollars. Gamora's soul is tied to the Soul stone which means there's a very good chance that she's back too. Loki, Heimdall and Vision are the only ones now that I think will remain dead. Although, that does not preclude people who died at the hands of the "snap" from re-dieing(?). But it ain't going to be T'Challa or Spidey, especially when you consider that Spidey is on loan from Sony.
Spoiler Wouldn't it be the most underhanded move if they did kill off Spider-Man in the MCU since Sony is insisting on playing around with the title? Could you imagine if after all this, they just killed off Peter and moved on? I know they won't but it'd be vicious. As for everyone coming back, I'm inclined to agree that most snappers are going to be un-snapped. I definitely agree Spider-Man and T'Challa are coming back (too much money). Same with Strange. I think what will happen is that anyone who wants out can get out. Evans has reportedly wanted out for a while, he'll get his chance. I think Scarlet would probably like to do more, she can leave too. I have to imagine they'll write out Stark in some way although RDJ loves the role so much, I bet he doesn't die he just retires or something. Quill, Drax, Groot, and Mantis are likely back. I think in the end Nebula sacrifices herself to bring back Gamora. Basically if you've been around for 10 years and want to go do something else, Marvel will let you get off the ride.
This looks better to me than the first season. I liked a lot about the first season, but I prefer this tone for Cage. Especially now that they've already established him as his own man.
