I took Mitch's comments about not throwing money at veteran guys this summer just to appease Kobe as his way of saying no Rondo...at least I very much want that to be the message he was trying to get across.
We almost traded for him last December. We could probably get him for less than the max but the problem is he and Kobe probably won't make it through the All-Star Break...
I don't really want Rondo anymore. He's causing trouble on the Mavs with his coach, and reports of him sabotaging an offense or called plays just to get big assist numbers continue to look more and more true. I almost feel like I'd rather have Dragic for max than Rondo for 10 mil now. Rondo for 8 mil though, that's where I start to waver.
I think there is a very real possibility that he ends up a Laker next season even if we draft a guard. Rondo's injury history is a big time concern for me.

Is he really ignoring what the F.O. has to be planning here? I know he has to say this publicly but what are you hearing? And VERY MUCH agree on NO we don't trade Randle for freaking Ty Lawson.
He is known for manipulating stats. I remember when he had the 2 longest streak of 10+ assist(he was going after Magic) and he played in a blowout loss in the last minutes and had open layups but passed the ball. He was great player from 2008-2010, when he had 3 HOF around him and before all the injuries. The way he is playing ATM he is not a starter on most teams in the league, let alone worth the max.
I'm crying inside. I've said it before, give me a choice between losing our pick or signing Rondo, I'd take losing the pick. So Rondo has had problems with Carlisle and Rivers. I'm sure he's going to warm right up to a hard-a** like Byron Scott. And I'm also quite sure his injury history will fix itself when he turns 30. He'll also become an elite defender again for the first time in 3 years.
He's playing himself into a position where we can get him for a discount. At 8-10 million, even if he misses time it's worth the investment. Is he a d***? Yes. But he's shown that when he has talent around him, he's a great piece to make all those other pieces work. He's a great glue guy. At that price, it's exactly what we're looking for. Now if I had to choose at this point, I'd prefer Dragic. I'd prefer Dragic taking all our cash than giving a majority chunk to Rondo. If we can get Rondo at 8-10 though and then pull Matthews away from Portland for the same price and then have a few bucks left over to bring back a guy like Davis. I mean that's exactly what we need to do if we have the opportunity for it. Rondo/Clarkson Bryant/Ellington (or pick) Matthews/Young Randle/Kelly/Black Okafor or Towns/Davis/Sacre I love that team actually.
I do too. However, do you think that Rondo and Bryant will be healthy all season? That hasn't happened for 3 or so seasons for both of them. Also, we'll just say Rondo take 10 million; now you have two guys making 35 million that could be possibly out for an extended period of time.
Sure it's a risk, but at that price I honestly don't care all that much. I'm not expecting Kobe to play a lot next season anyway so that's not a concern either. Rondo missing time would be a pain, but with that team we'd then focus on the young cats and developing them. Clarkson, Randle, and whoever our first pick will be have a lot of growing left to do anyway. The key is you have the connective tissue in Rondo at a price that's extremely reasonable. Then you have even more space to go get Durant and whoever else while already having the great glue pieces like Matthews and Rondo. I'd go that route if it became an option.
Not to mention that he is likely to improve his FT % from his current 28% at Dallas to a healthy 30-35%. Yay!
So, let me get this straight. You want Rondo because he won't play many games and therefore the young guys can develop? Also, how do you categorize Rondo as a "glue piece". How has he been glue for the Mavs?
I agree. if we get the discount(maybe he wont have a lot of suitors-who needs a PG besides of us and NYK and Philly?), but i would give Dragic 3-5 mil more, except if we could get a SF with that money and the rest of the cap.
Honestly I don't even think hes worth $10 million just on his negative locker room presence alone. And the guy can't shoot if his life depended on it
That's an absolutely terrible representation of my argument man, c'mon. Just terrible. I want Rondo because for 10 million dollars he can lead the league in Triple-Doubles. I'm saying if he's hurt for chunks of time at 10 million dollars, it's much easier to swallow than whomever else we get (also likely to miss a little time) for the max. Rondo with 65 games @ 10 million + Matthews @ 10 million is more valuable than _________ with 70 games @ 16-20 million per year. Again, I outlined that Rondo was a good glue piece when surrounded by other talent which is what I assume we're trying to do right? So when we have guys like Randle, Okafor, and eventually hopefully Durant on the floor you have Rondo who can distribute the ball effectively between them. Isn't that the goal? To get all of these ultra talented players and find ways for them all to be successful?
