I still like Crowder quite a bit. He's limited, but he's a solid player.

Maybe something like Crowder/Frye for Clarkson? Lakers shed 7 million in the summer and Crowder is a solid role player to take Brewer's spot?

yeah, i'd need a 1st rounder. clarkson is the best player in the deal, and he's on a reasonable salary.

i'm also hoping we're done shedding salary. all signs point to cousins and george staying put. we have the money to pay lebron, so i don't think more is really useful at this point.

I think deep down Cousin wants to be in LA more than PG IMO, at least he I think admited before he was a Magic and somewhat of a Laker fan growing up, he and Jules could be a good pairing...we just need a solid/respectable vet to keep DMC in check.

Cousins has said he's likely staying and that's the industry belief right now. Honestly I think the Lakers best hope of luring anyone is first convincing LeBron to come which is why I want more than one spot available. You're not convincing LeBron to join a 30 win team if he's the only piece joining.

As for a trade with the Cavs, I'd love to take a pick too if we could manage it. I have no interest in Osman.

we've seen the template here. lebron agrees to sign, then the trade dominoes start falling. some combo of ingram/kuz/ball/randle/clarkson can potentially fetch two running mates. people would hate this, obviously.

I don't think LeBron comes here to trade the whole crew out. I assume Lonzo stays. I see no reason to get rid of Nance, Bryant, Hart, or even Zubac since they're all cheap and competent role players. I figure it comes down to one of Ingram or Kuzma, probably Ingram on the way out.

Of course, if we free up a second slot then it lessens that impact as well. If we sign LeBron and George, not only does that make trading Ingram easier to swallow, but we only have to trade one of the young assets out instead of more than one.

And people can be upset if they'd like, but I'd prefer to have George/LeBron/3rd star with Lonzo and a few other good players than all of our young guys for another 4 years before we realize they're not good enough to get us to the top. I know that's not a popular position, but oh well.

I'm not sure Ingram nets us a third star though that's worth trading his production + contract. He only makes like 5.8 million. If we trade that for a star we will have to have the cap space to absorb a lot of extra money (since stars make so much). I think we're better off signing a solid role player with whatever cap space we have for depth and keeping Ingram. I'm not even sure we can sign LBJ and PG-13 and still have enough left over to absorb the contract of a star if all we sent out was Ingram.

PG-13 + LBJ + Lonzo + Stretched Deng = 78 or so million. If we keep Hart, Kuzma, and Nance, that's another 5.6 million. 5 cap holds for another 3 million. The cap is expected to be at 101. What star are we going to be able to trade Ingram for that makes only 12-13 million? I'd much rather try to figure out a way to unload Nance and try to talk Lebron into taking 2-3 million less than the max so we can resign Randle.

I agree if you can find a way to get all three of PG, Lebron and Cousins you do it. That team would be insane. Of course I think that's a super long shot.

Yea, it's clear that this young crew isn't going to transcend the bottom of the barrel here... would like to hang onto guys like Nance, Kuzma, and Lonzo, but the rest of these guys gotta go. We no longer have the luxury of hoping for these guys to make the jump to the next level. #timesup

I don't see any chance LeBron takes less than the max no matter where he ends up. If you want to keep Randle, you have to give up Clarkson for no salary returning and dump at least some of the kids, including Nance, Zubac, and Bryant.

I make it work though. The Lakers have a lot of flexibility. It would have been nice to find a home for Deng.

you can still trade deng, just dont expect pure expiring....someone with 1 or 2 more yrs like deng but at alot less $ or partial guarantees can still help us when we stretch that said player

I think finding a new (retirement) home for Deng would be great.

I like the idea. There's not many that fit the description that would make a lot of sense though. Here's a list of maybes depending on how much the Lakers need to shed. The first number is what they'll make in 2018/2019, the number in parathesis is how much they have left on their contract starting in the summer of 2018.

Cody Zeller (CHA)- 13.5 million (3/43.4)
Joe Ingles (UTH)- 13 million (3/36)
    Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA)- 13 million (2/26)
Mason Plumlee (DEN)- 12.9 million (2/27)
Solomon Hill (NO)- 12.8 million (2/26.1)
Miles Plumlee (ATL)- 12.5 million (2/25)
Courtney Lee (NYK)- 12.3 million (2/25)
Patty Mills (SAS)- 11.6 million (3/37.3)
Dion Waiters (MIA)- 11.6 million (3/36.4)
Omer Asik (NO)- 11.3 million (2/23.3)
Kelly Olynyk (MIA)- 11.1 million (3/35)
Moe Harkless (POR)- 10.8 million (2/22.3)
Tony Snell (MIL)- 10.6 million (3/32.2)
Meyers Leonard (POR)- 10.6 million (2/22)
    John Henson (MIL) - 10.6 million (2/20.3)
John Leur (DET)- 10 million (2/19.5)
    Matthew Dellavedova- 9.6 million (2/19.2)
Josh Richardson (MIA)- 9.3 million (4/42)
    E'Twaun Moore (NO)- 8.8 million (2/17.4)
Cristiano Felicio (CHI)- 8.5 million (3/24.2)

I've always liked Wes Matthews, both the person and the player. But I don't think he's worth a 1st Round Pick with how valuable they are in today's game.
