Yeah, I seen that. Thanks for posting. If Carlisle can't work with Rondo or get the best out of him, and we think Scott can do better, it's not happening from an X's and O's perspective. Health notwithstanding. Gosh, I don't want Rondo...

I'm replying to this late but I'm still 50/50 on Randle. Could see him being an allstar but at the same time could see him being an under average starter. There's absolutely no way Randle won ROY over Wiggins, he couldn't even push Boozer out of the lineup.

& we really don't have a change to do what OKC did. Maybe with Durant & WB, but they also drafted Harden & Ibaka. Even the Durant & WB part is an extreme longshot. The odds of Randle or the top 5 pick being the best/2nd best player in the league like Durant are slim to none. You're talking about lucking into a once in a generation player.
Also Lawson isn't a free agent so I'm not sure where you get the idea we can sign Lawson & Love, unless you mean we sign Lawson in 3 years.

I wouldn't trade the top 5 pick for a Lawson level player because that pick is a complete wildcard & be that once in a generation player, but going off what I've seen from Randle so far he isn't on his way to being 1 of those "best players in the league", so why refuse to trade him unless that's what we're getting? Lawson is right there with Wall as the best passing PG in the league this year, which says alot because he's traditionally been a scoring PG but switched it up this year & is averaging 16/10 in his first attempt to be a pure PG.

Yeah. Unless Dirk's shooting coach gives Rondo that Kidd 3 point shot stay far away. Focus on young starts/young players on the verge of becoming stars.

I have to agree with that. Rondo's injury history bothers me more than anything else. I do think we are going to take a long look at him this summer though.

I don't think that could be any more wrong of a read on the situation. In the extremely small sample size we have of Randle I'd say he's already more talented than Boozer ever was. Will that translate to being a better NBA player? Still too early to tell, but the fact that Randle wasn't starting at the time had almost nothing to do with Randle himself. It was the Lakers' way of giving him an artificial ceiling so that there was less pressure on him to perform early as a rookie. Boozer's move to the bench was viewed as an eventuality even without Randle, so I believe Randle would have been starting within a month or two if he'd stayed healthy. Wiggins' numbers early in the year were modest at best too. It takes time to translate.

Obviously we're not getting Harden and Ibaka through the draft, but we have the money and availability to get those players through FA. I said we have a chance to replicate what they did which was building a solid foundation through the draft. Again, look at the Lakers draft history and tell me they don't know how to use high picks on players that are valuable. I'm not talking about luck, I'm talking about building a young foundation worth time and effort to develop. Will we find Westbrook and Durant in the draft? No. For one thing Randle is a PF and if we get the one player that's obviously in their ilk in Okafor, he's a Center. I'm not talking about replicating OKC, I'm talking about emulating them by having a young core. By the way it took OKC years and years of being terrible to get where they are now. I don't anticipate the Lakers following them in the draft.

I know Lawson isn't a FA, it was proposed we trade Randle for him. Why the hell should we do that? We have the cap space to go get a PG equal to Lawson if we want to without giving up young assets. It doesn't have to be Lawson we build around when there's plenty of PG options we can sooner and without sacrificing young potential building blocks. That's my point.

You want to tear down the Lakers' rookie to build up Lawson? Despite the obvious off-court problems and his disregard for authority, he's also tiny and often times a defensive liability. Dragic is available this summer and while he may not be as great a passer, he's a better scorer, bigger, and actually has expressed an interest in being here.

So again, why are we giving up our best young asset for a player that's at best the equal of another player that's already available and wants to be here? Even if you don't see greatness in Randle, like it or not he's our best young asset. Trading him better net you one of the top players in the NBA because otherwise you're wasting your time. The Lakers can go GET a PG. They can't get a young PF who can rebound, run the floor, post up, and pass efficiently.

Well, Rondo's value is sinking rapidly. The bad news is that we may actually acquire him now. The good news is that we might not actually throw the max at him?

No to Rondo, Dear God!It's a combination of things with him, starting with his terrible shooting, needs to pound the ball for 15-20 seconds because defenses beg him to shoot in the P&R, bad attitude, injury prone, and please watch him play defense now, he is as bad as Lin. That knee injury took his lateral quickness away.

Randle is a 19 yr old kid that showed a big upside in preseason, he could not take the starting role from Boozer because he played 1 quarter of regular season basketball.Boozer eventually lost that spot to Davis, and I'm positive it would have been Randle had he not got injured. Regarding Lawson, yes he put's up big numbers on a bad team, but can't play a lick of D, and has not shown any leadership quality's you would like to see from your PG and best player.IMO it would be a bad decision to give up on Randle for him.

You don't have to worry about it. We are NOT giving up Randle for Lawson. From what I've heard, the front office believes that Randle may be the best player in his draft class. They are REAL high on him.

And they might be right. I think reasonable averages for him at this young age next season could be something like 12-15 points and 6-8 rebounds per game if he plays enough. That's not bad at all for a young cat. Wiggins is his biggest competition as far as that draft class goes and without bias I'd say he's in that conversation. Wiggins has a huge head start on him though.

Marcus Smart was a bust. Lakers were high on drafting rondo but would have passed due to character issues. Did not want another nick van excel. Leave rondo to join clippers as Paul back up - better yet I hear phoenix needs a point guard.

Hmm...I think it's kind of early to call Marcus Smart a bust considering he's a rookie and only 18; don't you think? Van Exel was an All-Star at one point, too.

So it's sounding like Rondo is going to leave the Mavs. Praying the Lakers are smart enough to not sign him.

Someone please explain this to me.....Why in the world would you pay the max for a 30 year old injury prone PG who can't shoot and has stopped playing defense 4 years ago, who is a locker room cancer with a terrible attitude???? I honestly don't get why people love this guy. Hes just a big name.

    Since joining the mavs : 5.1pts 4ast 2.9 reb .8st on 37% shooting and 33%ft

And some of you think hes worth the max?? Im lost.

I don't think anybody will throw him the max. I pray that the Lakers won't, but people here are discussing a smaller contract...around $10 million-ish I think. I still don't want him for that price though.

I keep seeing reports online indicating that Rondo wants the Lakers, but for me I think he would need to sign at a serious discount for the Lakers to sign him. As others have said he has tons of drawbacks and really is just a name at this point. Unfortunately, Kobe likes him and the Lakers already tried to get him once this year. They don't have much cap space available though and spending any of it on Rondo instead of a younger talent (even a restricted one) would be a gigantic mistake.

I hope things continue to spiral for him in Dallas. Stats get worse and relationship with the coaching staff continues to deteriorate. It either means we stay away from him or get him at a deeply discounted rate. If he can continue to snowball his value in the $9m range, then I'd take him over Dragic because we'd still have the needed funds to go out and fill out our starting lineup (Matthews).

Rondo, who just turned 29, will hit the unrestricted market on July 1. There are rumblings among rival front offices that Rondo might just be the personality type to forego a five-year deal with the Mavs for a four-year deal with the team of his choice -- the Lakers. Among other things, the Mavs gave up promising forward Jae Crowder and a first- and second-round pick to land Rondo -- a steep price if he decides to walk.
