We're still in the race this offseason. And if we don't get Dragic, then we'll have money to get someone else. If he truly wants to run a team -- we can offer that. In the meantime, we continue to tank.

Yikes, bad trade deadline for the Lakers. Dragic to MIA means it will be more difficult for LA to pry him away this summer, and the Sixers shipping out MCW and KJ means it's going to be very difficult to out tank them.

And the Sixers now have extra incentive to lose to the Lakers and push our pick out of the top 5. With that and NY shutting down Melo our best hope for dropping down to at least 3rd is that Minny continues to play better and hope KG somehow helps with that.

The Lakers didn't improve at the deadline but the tank is in worse shape than it was an hour ago.

Good news. Miami I think has a chance of keeping him this offseason which means the Lakers won't blow a max deal on a 2nd tier pg.

BTW, I haven't been following Miami much at all. Why are they so bad? I heard this Whiteside kid is good. They have Deng, Wade (sometimes) and Bosh. And they are still 8 games below 500 in the East?

@unpossibl1 I agree. I think we still can get Dragic this summer, but he and Jackson both went with teams that will desperately try to keep them. So our FA situation gets a little tricky. And on top of that, two of the other three tanking teams made move to out tank us (Philly w/ MCW, NYK w/ Melo's surgery). We didn't do anything to help us today.

Watching the deadline special on ESPN...
Stein and Broussard both think Miami won't let Dragic leave.

Really don't understand what the Suns were thinking. Dragic, Thomas, and the LA pick for Brandon Knight and lesser picks? Ouch

I think he likes (who wouldn't) playing with his brother. Miami made that happen too. Would we?

Yep. HUGE risk by Riles, but it's definitely a Riles move. Dammit I respect that slimy bastard. Still though I think the Lakers and Dragic end up re-visiting each other this summer and liking what each other is seeing. Dragic to LA just makes a ton of sense.

Panic I'm guessing. I mean now they have a similar problem to what they had before: two ball-dominant guards still. I like Knight and I like Bledsoe, but was that really worth it? Jeez.

Offense took a huge dip without LeBron. Defense should have still been good, but injuries to key defensive players really hurt them on that end.

I suppose they see the writing on the wall and know the Thunder will inevitably pass them so they are looking to create more balance. Wright and Bledsoe will probably play quite well together. But they are going to have to pay Wright this offseason.

Can't believe IT ended up in Boston instead of Philly. He needs that MCW rookie year usage. He'd drop 25/7.

Yeah, but man. In the east that roster should be better. I mean Bosh and Deng alone in the East seems like enough to be 500. Maybe Dragic can stabilize that team.

Philly doesn't want IT. He'd win too many games for them. And by too many I mean like 2 more...but that's enough when you're the Tanxers.

So their plan now is to build around Bledsoe/Knight/Wright? Those three that aren't enough to carry them to the playoffs now are going to have to get paid within the next couple years. I don't get their plan right now.

I can honestly say I am happy we aren't getting Dragic for 20 million. We can build a better team with that money.

Apparently Riles is going to go full max on Dragic. I didn't expect that. NBA circles have been saying his price this summer was going to be that high even if we fans don't agree with it. I suppose that's the market price for him.

Interesting to see if we go full max offer for 4 years. For those interested:

    Max from Miami- 5/109 million
Max from anywhere else- 4/80 million

Dragic has said it's not about the money though. In fact there's a school of thought that he could structure his deal to opt-out when the cap explodes and re-sign long term then. That extra 5th year might not matter if he REALLY wants to go to NY or LA.

This story isn't over just yet.

I totally agree. Dragic going to Miami, a good destination, is great for us. Miami can save us from shooting ourselves in the foot with Dragic. Now if only Cuban can do us a solid and max out Rondo this offseason so we don't do it make Kobe happy.

I'm with Doc. Once again, I don't want him for anywhere near that price tag. He's second tier.
