I like how RW signed his contract extension on KD's birthday!

Guys are freaking out way too much. Let's see if this shot happy trio figures out a way to play together. And PG basically said he wants to be a MVP which he will never sniff in OKC. I am pretty confident in him coming here. RW resigning was a given.

Tough to turn down that kind of extended guaranteed money especially if he is feeling wear in his knees this year.

This is the first OKC news that bothers me. I really wanted Westbrook even though I knew he was a long shot.

PG might still leave, but I doubt Westbrook signed his contract without feeling confident he would have PG and maybe Melo resigning next year. However, that's all before they actually get on the court during the season. Let's see how they actually play together.

    Still.... not good

Russ doesn't need to wait, OKC have done everything to prove they're all in. They traded for two all stars, got rid of all their toxic contracts, kept their defensive identity while improving their offensive players.

Furthermore they are telling all the guys, we are all in, tax and all. Communicating with the guys and including them in their plans. You can see it just from PG's comments, they've acted like a world class organisation and I think everyone is impressed and ready to go to war. At this point there is literally nothing more russ, melo and PG could ask for from an organisation.

This situation is no longer ours to win but OKC's to lose. And you expect three guys who all want to win in the worst way to at least try and make it work on the floor. And if they do make it work, they're all staying.

At the end of the day, Russell is one of the top 5 best players in the NBA, he just signed to stay on, there aren't many better players to play with and easier situations to get too, for PG and Melo to leave for. If I'm PG, I'm thinking Russ is young enough where our window is 3-5 years together.

Only threat to that scenario is Lebron, but historically speaking his window is only 1-3 years left most probably. So their current situation in OKC still seems the best shot to win at.

One last thing, durant and Westbrook never had issues and they were a perennial contender that was missing a better constructed team to win. If durant was around for PG, I think this roster would of been the best on constructed. So when I read PG wants to be MVP, I read it as he wants to be as good as Durant was in OKC and I don't see Westbrook stopping that from happening it's all on PG.

i love westbrook, but he wasn't on my list. first, because i really didn't see him going anywhere, and second because i don't think he's a great fit with players we have or others we want.

they'll lowball melo if he opts out. again: root for melo to opt in--because that means george's max will be painful and might require losing adams and/or anything else useful on the roster.

that said, svtzr is right: okc is in the driver's seat. the glimmer of hope is that they have crashed this particular vehicle in the past.

I agreed with you then and now. This is pretty much exactly the concerns most of us had over the summer.

Westbrook wasn’t the guy I wanted but this isn’t a good thing in our pursuit of George. IMO a lot of our free agency fate now rests in the hands of Lebron and that makes me uncomfortable.

Svtzr: I don't know bro...it seems like they're reachin'. If any of us had to take 3 stars and put them together as the most sensible and practical pairings, I'm thinking Russ-PG-Melo would likely be low on the list. Even though Russ showed that he's a guard capable of setting others up last season, that's not his natural role. Melo will embrace playing PF for the sake of this season, but he was absolutely against it in NY, even before they got the Zingis. There are a ton of stories where George would encourage Brian Shaw, when he was an assistant coach with the Pacers, to model his game after Kobe's. All 3 are naturally players that want and intend to put the ball in the bucket. You got 1 year to try to mesh them together and even though Billy Donovan is a decent coach, I'm not confident in it really coming together out there.

Look at the last few "superteams". OKC is most like Miami with Labron, Bosh and Wade, in that no foundation was laid down where one guy showed up before the other...all 3 linked up within the same season and just like Miami, I believe they will need time to get it together. Same can be said about Bron, Kyrie and Love linking up. Even with the compatibility that Kobe and Pau had with each other, that needed the time. But look at the personnel...LO is a glorified set-up man of that 3some and Kobe had the classic big-small connection with Pau that Kobe mastered with Shaq. GS won right out the gate with Durant, but the foundation was already there and KD just rode their coattails. The only outlier is the C bags with Pierce, KG and Shuttlesworth....but again, check out the personnel and Rondo was really the set-up guy there to make it work. The OKC 3some are all ballstoppers and sure they can play out of their natural instincts to make it work, but that doesn't mean they're going to want to play that way. Remember, these were trades that set them together...in most super team cases, free agency was a major player where the star got to choose what situation they wanted to come into. Both George and Melo had minimal leverage in these instances and OKC was definitely not their 1st or even 2nd choice.

Like I said, I admire that Presti swung for the fences cause it clearly worked to get Russ to re-up, which was definitely their end game. But they only got rid of one bad contract to do this: Oladipo's...and even that, was cause Pritchard is a spiteful moron. Dude completely sabotaged George, and took us for a ride as well. Presti vultured in with the appropriate circumstance of having George not get his wish to go to a big market, instead going out West so that Indy doesn't have to deal with him in the short-term and bringing in Oladipo who has Indy roots that they can sell hard to the fanbase. Sabonis is a rookie K that is easy to move and take on in any deal. In terms of Melo, Kanter is another short term deal with McDermott being a team friendly RFA.

IMHO Russ should have waited till the summer to dictate not only contract terms (he could have included a no-trade clause in his deal if he signed next summer) but also personnel terms since he could have had a better idea after a one season sample if paring with Melo and PG would have been the right setup for him moving forward.

I'm confidant this won't come together so easily for OKC. They eliminated the awkwardness of not having a committed Russ this coming year, but in terms of personnel, they don't mesh and I'm sure it will rear its ugly head this coming season. George, see you in a year brodie!

Btw, here's what Melo said about "that guy"'s extension.

    Here's what PG said:
