Props .... you foresaw the events and accurately broke down what's going on now. Seems like a great call.

Well, they still have to play the games. Seems like an odd fit, though.

Either way, I am sure we'll have our contingency plan. No worries here.

More than an odd fit, it's a bad fit offensively. We will have to see how they play, and I don't think this is good for the Lakers chances, but this is far from a lock as a good team.

You're expecting three players that are use to being the focus of the offense to take a step back, and this is not like LLLLLabron going to Miami. These three don't do much more offensively than score NATURALLY. I say naturally because Russ can dish, Melo could be a spot up shooter, but youre asking them to sacrifice a lot to fit a square peg in a round hole when any, and all, could come to the Lakers and have two exceptional passers in Ball and LLLLLabron set them up for easy shots.

And that's not even mentioning the difference in sponsorship opportunities in LA.

Not good for us re: Paul George. There's not an easy way to spin it. If they recruited Carmelo hard, I expect Westbrook to sign an extension next week. That takes one huge name off the FA market. It gives OKC the ability to pay far into the luxury cap to retain Carmelo and George and it "proves" to the players that Presti is willing to do what it takes to get players.

How strange is it by the way that Kanter, McDermott, Oladipo, Sabonis, and a 2nd Round pick were turned into Carmelo Anthony and Paul George? What the **** is that about? I'm not a huge Carmelo guy anymore, but he should be worth more than that and of course Paul George should have been worth far more. Presti has been gifted a competitive roster.

It's starting to look like LeBron or bust for us. We better hope Randle, Caldwell-Pope, and Lopez are as good as we want them to be.

I've always wanted LeBron ;) but even more so now. Bird in hand ...you know.

Yikes! Where the hell are all the small market teams and Gilbert now? OK if anybody but the Lakers? Eff all of them. I still like what we are putting together in L.A. Come on in LeBron.

Lopez has proven his worth to me. If he brings what he has in Brooklyn, and provided he's healthy, we should be okay there.

I am hoping that Randle breaks out; he has the skill-set to really be a game changing force on both ends.

Why does Westbrook sign an extension for Melo though? He's old, and even if he's good this season he can leave and go wherever he wants this offseason with a player option unless I'm mistaken. Same with George. Why would Westbrook sign an extension now when these guys can walk away and leave him with zero talent around him this offseason? I can see it happening because $$$, but I dunno, Melo is just not a game changer for me. He's good, but he couldn't even keep his team competetive in the East. He's a shooter, he's a scorer, that's it. GS wins because they play defense, because while Klay is an amazing shooter, more importantly he's a defender. Melo can't defend his shadow.

I doubt russ/pg recruiting melo with intention of leaving...its not guarantee they stay but this definetly helps the case for both to stay

I don't follow this logic. Recruit the best player you can, sure, but then if it doesn't work out well, you can still leave. Recruiting Melo and George intending to stay to not have to be tied together. Recruit Melo, try to be as good as possible, then do what's best for himself after the season, these players owe nothing to each other and I doubt make promises. Kobe once recruited Radmanovic, then asked for a trade the next offseason.

my logic is they didn't recruit Melo with mindset of "we're still leaving".....just saying this recruit jobs helps sway them towards staying more than it would've had they not done this trade. Of course things can still work out the other way but you can't deny this isn't helping our chances any either.

He signs an extension for both because OKC proved they were willing to fight for a competitive roster. Remember when Kobe was about to leave and he ended up staying when Doctor Buss proved to Kobe that was willing to fight tooth and nail to compete? I see a similar situation in this. No, Carmelo isn't the answer, but he's there with Paul George right now. If I'm Westbrook, I sign the extension because a) I get the most money, b) OKC is home and they've proven to me that they'll continue to work hard to be competitive, and c) if I sign the extension, that could convince George that I'm serious about OKC and he should be too.

Let's see how PG feels after having to deal with Westbrook and Melo bad habits all season long and being treated as a third weel ...

The chances of Russ AND Melo adapting are very low .

I don't take the Melo addition as bad news at all

I wonder what everyone will say if Hoodie Melo starts to play like Olympic Melo this year, as a super spot up shooter with insane efficiency on 20ppg as a 3rd option.

PG and Melo can both shoot, as well as the new additions on their bench Ferguson and Patterson - their spacing has gotten a huge improvement this year. Furthermore, you can't physically double team all 3 players, so one of the three will get single courage, and you aren't stopping PG, Melo or Russ 1 on 1. Spacing and double/triple teaming westbrook were the problems last year. I also think there is a possibility their defence improves, they swapped Gibson and Oladipo for PG and Melo in the starting lineup. PG is the best defender of the bunch and Melo and Oladipo are kind of par for the course between each other. There is a chance they stabilise at a top 5 offence and defence this year and if OKC gets to the WCF, they retain PG.

I also think this harms our chance of getting Lebron. Lebron doesn't want to come here alone and who else are we going to get to pair him with here? I'm not convinced DMC is enough. Really excited to see if our young guys can step up this season, that's the variable here.

Mr. Wade is a free agent...and Trey Burke signed with OKC after the Melo deal and then backed out of it....Wade to OKC?

Also on the Melo deal, the Knicks got pennies back on the dollar...so that makes me think that Presti knows Melo is one and done and didn't want to give up anything too significant. No 1st round picks given up for both PG and Melo. Yeah, I'm slightly worried that this could harm our 2018 shopping list, but my gut is telling me, Presti's hand reveals just how much he believes this trio will last past this next season.

EDIT: Woj just chimed in with possible destinations.
