Mayweather probably would out point Benitez and Chavez... The others? Nah. Mayweather would be on the canvas. Sugar Ray did kick his old man's behind.

Pound...when I say out-point, I meant out-run them all over the ring. You best believe if Mayweather were to stand toe to toe with Chavez, the latter would flatten him like a tortilla.

Arguello was a classic fighter. No frills, no flash... Really liked him. Then he ran into Aaron Pryor who I believe was on something. That cat came out his corner a million miles per hour and just whales at people. Never seen anyone like him.

Didn't Mayweather I think also went out of his way to duck Bernard Hopkins? Today, he's 49 and still in prime shape. Doesn't do drugs, doesn't drink, doesn't chase tail... He does though sends his opponents a "last" meal prior to their bouts.

Another name from the past... Livingstone Bramble. Believed in voodoo, threw snakes into the ring just to freak out his opponent, the refs and everyone in the building.

Always loved boxing... Now if they can only do something about the heavyweight division...

I was thinking he was too heavy for Money. Then again lightweight Roberto Duran in his prime (and welterweight) moved up to middleweight to fight Marvin when he was older and give him a good fight.

I agree on that Aaron Pryor fight something was in his water. Dude was firing bombs from his hips like a machine. And LMAO with Livingstone Bramble reference. [IMG]

Here you go ..... what we should have had 5 years ago at the "girly man" distance of 12 rounds with Mayweather and Pacquiao........... 15 rounds distance....... 30 wins 1 loss Sugar Ray Leonard vs undefeated Tommy "Hit Man" Hearns. A fight for the ages. [IMG] Great ringside commentators as well with Gil Clancy and Tim Ryan (I thought it was Jim Lampley and Gil was calling him Tim LOL.

Bill Dwyre of the L.A. Times is good. His take on chances of the fight happening and annoyance with Floyd Mayweather.

A Mayweather-Pacquiao bout? Or another bob and weave?

Official: Progress not complete on Mayweather-Pacquiao TV deal

So we wait, held hostage by, from all reports, Floyd Mayweather Jr., whose whims are as legendary as his ability to duck punches. (Notice we didn't say throw them). Manny Pacquiao, we are told, has signed off on all the details, has even agreed to take the short end of a roughly 60-40 purse cut. That sounds reasonable because, if you know Pacquiao, that's what he is. Reasonable. Sometimes to the point of being a soft touch.

People praise Mayweather's ability to bob and weave inside a boxing ring. Apparently, he is even better at that when dealing with lawyers, fight promoters and TV executives.

Maybe this isn't Floyd's orchestration. Maybe the long delay and the daily tease is the brainchild of Mayweather's manager, the new godfather of the sport, the seldom-seen, rarely-quoted, master of mystery, Al Haymon.

    lRelated [IMG]

Haymon now controls an increasing percentage of the sport's stars, most of them acquired after other promoters had built them into stars. But, hey, nobody said life was fair. Especially boxing life.

Maybe Mayweather just doesn't want to do this fight and public opinion has overwhelmed him. Certainly, the money is hard to turn down, especially if you have nicknamed yourself "Money" and like to bet six figures on the over-under in the Pro Bowl. Some estimates put this fight in the $250 million-purse category and in the $100 pay-per-view strata.

It is mind-boggling that anyone would even ponder sidestepping that. It is the kind of fight where each corner will need a trainer, a cut man and an IRS agent.
If Mayweather really doesn't want this fight, but still wants the money, the solution is simple. Just announce the fight, figure out a way to sell the tickets as non-refundable, and then tear a calf muscle a week before the fight. Calf muscles are hard to confirm, and the fight-cancellation press conference could include some words of regret that the children's hospital won't get its money.

Outrageous? Impossible? This is boxing, folks.

Consider the public eagerness to see this fight. At least that was the case four or five years ago. Some reports say the interest level is still driven solely by people wanting to see Mayweather resting on his back in the ring, as the referee counts to ten. A personal survey debunks this. Only 80% cited this as their viewing goal.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. reacts after losing to Bulgaria's Serafim Todorov in the 57-kilogram semifinals at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
In the meantime, this fight — hyped for years without one iota of real substance — has turned our boxing writer corps into a collection of parrots.

"Manny, are you gonna fight Floyd?"

"Floyd, are you gonna fight Manny?"

"When is the fight going to be? Where? How big a purse?"

These are all legitimate reporting pursuits. But after four or five years, they are also tedious.

Sunday, in New York, a reporter found Mayweather at the NBA All-Star game and asked him the question, for the 4,356,712th time. Mayweather snarled something about this being a basketball game and not a boxing match and demanded his privacy.

They should add a clause to our Constitution's Bill of Rights that says one of the richest athletes on the planet, whose millions come from a public whose conduit to him is the media, should be free of the burden of answering reporters' questions when he is at a basketball game.

If this fight isn't announced this week, look for lots of finger-pointing -- promoters at promoters, lawyers at lawyers, TV people at other TV people, Haymon at his shadow. The proposed fight date is May 2, and ten weeks is barely adequate to put together the kind of show this should be.

Also, if this is a no-go, expect the prevailing sound track to be about it being a fatal blow to the sport. That would, of course, be the same sport that has survived even after Mike Tyson bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield's ear.

All things point now to Floyd being in a corner, against the ropes on this one. But never underestimate how fast Mayweather's feet are.

Nor mess with the hair on his chinny chin chin.

Floyd Mayweather announces he's agreed to fight Manny Pacquiao on May 2

Done deal: Floyd Mayweather will fight Manny Pacquiao on May 2

By Kevin Iole30 minutes agoYahoo Sports

LAS VEGAS – After years of frustration and disappointment, following many starts and stops, perhaps the most talked about boxing match in history is finally a reality.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced Friday that he's agreed to fight Manny Pacquiao in a welterweight bout May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. It's a bout the public has been calling for since late 2009 and pits the two finest boxers of their generation in a historic event.

"I am very happy that Floyd Mayweather and I can give the fans the fight they have wanted for so many years," said Pacquiao, who signed the contract for the bout Thursday. "They have waited long enough and they deserve it. It is an honor to be part of this historic event. I dedicate this fight to all the fans who willed this fight to happen and, as always, to bring glory to the Philippines and my fellow Filipinos around the world."

The bout is expected to set numerous records, including purse size, live paid gate and pay-per-view sales. The cost of the pay-per-view has yet to be determined and won't be until there are deals with the distributors.

Formal details on the agreement have yet to be announced, but it's expected that Mayweather will have a 60-40 split advantage on revenues, with Mayweather making at least $120 million and Pacquiao $80 million.

"Floyd should enjoy being the A-side while he can," Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer, said. "Because on May 2, Manny is going to put him on his backside."

The two nearly came to terms around the Christmas holidays in 2009, a month after Pacquiao stopped Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand. It fell apart, though, when Pacquiao and promoter Bob Arum balked at Mayweather's demand for drug testing run by the United States Anti-Doping Agency during training camp.

There were numerous attempts over the last five years to reignite the talks. In 2011, then-HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg tried to act as a mediator between Mayweather adviser Al Haymon and Arum, but that didn't come to fruition.

In 2012, Mayweather, who was in Las Vegas, called Pacquiao, who was at his home in the Philippines, and offered him a guaranteed $40 million but with no pay-per-view upside. Pacquiao declined that offer.

Mayweather jumped from HBO, which had him under an exclusive television contract for much of his career, to Showtime in 2013, which seemed to be the death knell for the fight.

Mayweather has fought four of the six fights on his record-breaking Showtime contract and didn't have an opponent out there who would have made the kind of show that would resonate with the public the way a Pacquiao fight would.

Pacquiao remains under an exclusive television deal with HBO, so that further complicated the attempts to match the fighters. Only once previously, in 2002 when Lennox Lewis (HBO) and Mike Tyson (Showtime) fought, have the two premium cable giants gotten together to do a pay-per-view.

This most recent talks began in November and were started by CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves, a longtime acquaintance of Arum's. Roach actually got them together by speaking to a friend of his who owns a Southern California pizza restaurant that Moonves frequents.

Moonves and Arum were joined in the talks by HBO CEO Richard Plepler. And while there were many false alarms along the way, they were able to get the deal done.

Arum told Yahoo Sports on Jan. 13 that Pacquiao had agreed to terms for the bout and that all that was required was for Mayweather to agree.

But because Mayweather, the pound-for-pound king and the sport's biggest pay-per-view attraction, had the upper hand and was dictating the terms, there was a lot of skepticism and back and forth. Several times, Mayweather went to social media to announce that no deal had been reached.

Mayweather and Pacquiao spoke face-to-face for the first time during these negotiations Jan. 27 at American Airlines Arena in Miami at a Heat-Milwaukee Bucks game. Pacquiao had served as a judge at the Miss Universe pageant in Miami two nights earlier, but because of bad weather on the East Coast, his flight to Los Angeles had been canceled.

As a result, he went to the game to see the Heat because he’s friends with Miami coach Erik Spoelstra. Mayweather, who owns a home in Miami, also attended the game and walked over to speak to Pacquiao at halftime. Later, Mayweather went to Pacquiao's hotel room and they had further discussions.

That led to intense speculation of an announcement, but it took several more weeks before the deal could be consummated.

Roach told Yahoo Sports in January that he'd already gotten bleary-eyed from watching film of Mayweather and coming up with a plan.

"It's a huge challenge for Manny, no question, but I think it's a fight that he can win," Roach told Yahoo Sports.

The intrigue in the bout comes about because they are not only widely regarded as the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the world but their styles are vastly different.

Mayweather is the brilliant tactician and one of the finest defensive fighters in the sport’s history. He has an innate sense of timing and can see punches coming that others can’t.

Pacquiao, a left-hander, is a powerhouse offensive fighter who has the speed and quickness to deal with Mayweather.

Former world champion Timothy Bradley, who has gone 1-1 in two bouts with the Filipino congressman and cultural icon, told Yahoo Sports last year that Pacquiao is an extraordinarily hard puncher.

"He hits hard, man," Bradley said. "It's a whole different level. You feel it when he hits you."

The result is the kind of boxer vs. slugger match that has long intrigued boxing fans.

And five years after it first was talked about, it's finally a reality, and the endless debates over who would win will be settled in the ring.

It would've happened 5 years ago, but Mayweather just finished reading the contract.

Here's Manny's trainer Freddie Roach's take on what would happen between them, back on Nov 11, 2014. Is Floyd still trained by his dad or he just does WTF he wants? Who's got the edge in trainers? Freddie is really good.

Floyd Mayweather News: Freddie Roach Claims ‘Manny Will Kick Floyd’s a**’; ‘Pacman’ Believes His Existence In Boxing Will Make Fight Happen
BY Miguel Torres | Nov 17, 2014 08:34 PM EST

    • floyd mayweather, Money, Freddie Roach, manny pacquiao, boxing, world news
Floyd Mayweather news reveals Freddie Roach claiming that Manny Pacquiao "can king Floyd's a**." Pacquiao, on the other hand, believes that his existence in boxing can help make the fight happen.

As the Pacquiao camp prepares for their fight against former WBO light welterweight champion and undefeated fighter Chris Algieri this coming weekend, questions related to "Money Mayweather" never eluded them. Rightfully so, since the bout had been talked about as far back as 2009, when both men were younger and much more in their prime.

Floyd Mayweather news now reveals that "Pacman's" trainer Freddie Roach once again took shots at the current pound-for-pound boxing king in a recent interview with Graham Besinger of Yahoo! Sports.

"The last time I went to one of his fights I fell asleep, so I think he is boring and I think Manny will kick his a**," Roach claimed.

Furthermore, the six-time Boxing Writers Association of America Hall-of-Famer predicted that Mayweather will continue to avoid Pacquiao, based on the unpopular opinion that he is scared.

"I'm not the most optimistic person in the world," he added. "I think he's scared of Manny Pacquiao and I think he's gonna keep running."

Floyd Mayweather news also reveals that according to Manny Pacquiao, the fight not happening is a bigger loss to fans all around the world. That being said, he has left the end of the deal to the Mayweather camp.

"I think it's more hurt for the fans of boxing - the fans that really want to see that fight. I've been waiting for that so many years - to make that fight happen," Pacquiao said. "It's up to him. We're not closing our door."

Pacquiao also affirms that the possibility of the mega fight happening will be there, as long as both superstar boxers are in active competition.

"As long as I'm still in boxing and he's still in boxing, there is still a possibility to make the fight happen," he added.

Has Floyd ever fought anyone remotely like Manny? Heart of a lion, nearly as fast, but Bombs thrown relentlessly from equally good footwork positioning, from ALL kinds of firing angles? Sure Manny is older and not quite as quick and strong as at his peak. Then again neither is Floyd.
