Bob Arum said Vasyl Lomachenko is the greatest fighter since Muhammed Ali. I didn't know much about him, but looked up his stats. Amateur record: 396 - 1 Pro record: 9 - 1 Anyone see him fight and know how good / great he is? Obviously, a GREAT amateur fighter. Wondering what his pro career looks like.
He is electric. I admit I just discovered him, but boy is he fun to watch. He has some of the most innovative and fun footwork I've seen from a fighter maybe since Ali. He's what Mayweather should have been: fights defensively, but still turns on the attack when it's appropriate.
I was listening to ESPN when someone said that Arum quote. I was driving and wrote his name down and looked him up. Today I watched some youtube video's. I agree, he's electric. Fast, nice footwork, has some power. One of the video's they asked about the McGregor and Mayweather fight. he kinda smirked and said, "no one has ever knocked out Mayweather and he thinks he can do it in 12 minutes? I gotta see that."
Needless to say I have watched all of his fights and he should be 10-0, after Salido/Ref controversy, he is the best boxer to watch out there in my opinion. He's also a two time Olympic gold medalist, should of won a title in his second fight and doesn't duck anyone. Hence why I think Lomachenko vs Garcia would be an incredible fight.
Lomachenko also volunteered to spar with McGregor although most people agreed that'd be a mistake. Lomachenko would utterly abuse McGregor and might poke holes in his confidence. His power is probably his weak point, but his defense, footwork, and speed are just uncanny. The way he shuffles around opponents is incredible. His conditioning is also fantastic.
That's what Punk and I were talking about: if Connor can make more money as a circus act boxing, why wouldn't he? I'd stay and fight Paulie if it meant even 3x the paycut of a UFC title fight. Why in the world wouldn't I?
Mayweather is trying desperately to sell this fight. The best way to get value? Mayweather loses. Set up a rematch.
