What T-Rod said. He really solidified the defense...worked a scheme that fit the talent. He'll be fine and likely do much better with more seasoned talent in the San Francisco defense. Young corners along with less than dominating linemen were factors to be considered. Cleveland is in the mix for Trestman. So...uuummm...Fox now with Da Bears. That didn't take long. Ryan up to his usual bluster in Buffalo.
Mike Tice to be hired as O-Line coach. Raiders looking like trying to fill in the assistants with proven coaches or at least those with considerable experience.
Eric Mangini now being considered for the DC post. Ex-Falcon coach Mike Smith not exactly turning up warm.
He had a good run under Belichick with the same post. Mangini is a competent assistant but I agree he is not head coaching material.
Watched Del Rio's presser...no standard playoffs, championships or the expected kiss-up lines. He was matter of fact and honest. Del Rio is aware that much is to be shored up and is not here to be friends with any of his players. I like it. Tired of the clichés so it came across fresh if not sexy.
Potential draftees: Nelson Agholor WR Southern California - great hands, runs routes well, great separation after the catch. Javorius Allen RB Southern California - shifty, breakaway speed, can catch out the backfield. Arik Armstead DE Oregon Malcom Brown DT Texas Alex Carter DB Stanford - very physical corner Amari Cooper WR Alabama DaVaris Daniels WR Notre Dame - what say you, Trod? George Farmer WR Southern California - fast but unproven Eddie Goldman DT Florida State Melvin Gordon RB Wisconsin Dorial Green-Beckham WR Missouri - ? Deontay Greenberry WR Houston - ? Randy Gregory DE Nebraska Todd Gurley RB Georgia Duke Johnson RB Miami - a mini Frank Gore Ellis McCarthy DT UCLA - makes impact plays but plagued by inconsistency. Andrus Peat T Stanford - Jaelen Strong WR Arizona State - great hands but really a possession receiver Shaq Thompson LB Washington Leonard Williams DE Southern California - beast T.J. Yeldon RB Alabama Jake Fisher OT Oregon - would make a great blind side lineman
Bill Musgrave named OC... Recently worked with Chip Kelly's Philly offense. Prior to that it was in Minny with Peterson's near record breaking year. ??? Edit: after further research...it's my feeling that this hire is iffy. OK, to be honest it looks like it will suck.
Woodson signs extension... Musgrave to implement no-huddle offense. Well, get that one play-making wide-out and it could work.
Davaris Daniels: Daniels is tough to figure because he missed all of 2014 because of an academic charge. He maintains his innocence, or had the last I'd heard, but the university saw it differently. He has decent size - was listed at 6'2, 205. He has good hands, decent speed, and good quickness. If he had played this year, he wouldn't have been the best ND WR though - and he MIGHT not have been second best. He's not as good as recent ND WRs to go pro like Golden Tate and Michael Floyd. He's a physical WR, and he's not afraid to lower his head and fight for extra yardage. I wouldn't draft him before the 5th round, but if he's around in the sixth, I think he'd be a good bargain. He's probably as good/consistent as anyone we have right now. He doesn't have the freak ability of Andre Holmes or the consistency of Jones, but he's somewhere between. I'm trying to think of an NFL comparison. Not sure how familiar you are with Michael Floyd from ND, but Daniels is a smaller, weaker version of Floyd.
Reading reports that we're going to be incorporating aspects of Chip Kelly's "blur" offense - more no huddle. That's good for our skill positions, but our OL average like 330. Philly's average under 300, I think.
Julius Thomas being a Raider...a "possibility"? Nah...even if he was an admitted Raider fan growing up. OK, just for s***s and giggles, if he were to sign and Amari Cooper ends up with us, that no-huddle O has its components. Yep, the O-line has to be more mobile to execute it. Depth will be a premium. Musgrave will now have to balance the attack from his stint with Minny and AP with the fast pace offense he is implementing from Chocolate Chip Kelly. Side note: I like the possibility of picking up Josh Shaw as another corner. Tough, solid and strong. Can be a poor man's Richard Sherman.
I despise Suh as a human, and I'd rather see him go elsewhere unless he can stop being a j******. He's a great talent, no doubt, but if we're trying to build a team of non problem players, he's the wrong move. What do you think? I'm sure it's tempting...
