From Medina and Bill Oram. Honestly on a one year deal? I'm not beating myself up over it... If he's a real pain, sit him and forget he's there like Deng. Let him mouth off in the back row, I'm not worried about it. He would be a terrific passer and would be a good example as far as hustling on the defensive end (even though his defense has slipped since his All-Defense days).

He'd be able to be that guy in the half-court I thought Russell would be in terms of passing the ball to guys coming of screens... Obviously Rondo won't be the floor spacer though which is half the battle... But oh well. Can't win 'em all on one-year deals.

a few months ago, russell wasn't jettisonable.

and the pacers would have taken ingram or the 2, perhaps with deng attached. we'll never know now.

i'm not arguing they weren't out to screw us, but we made it easy by witholding assets.

maybe it all turns out great, and russell's a bad basketball player and worse person, one of these late picks becomes a starter, and george is here next year towing a buddy along. but you have to forgive people's skepticism.

I say this plan has been in effect for a few months, and we won't really see if it works until next year. Sure we have all been through this as fans before watching Mitch and co wait and strikeout, but this is an entire new front office.

Until they fail, I can't knock them for the past misses when they weren't even here.

We haven't been a contender since 2011/12. It feels like an eternity but it's only been 5 seasons since

A few months ago Russell was afforded the opportunity to make an impression on the new leadership group and obviously didn't do a good enough job. He became jettisonable. He worked his way out of LA even if it was just a difference in philosophy.

You can't say they would have taken it, but that we'll never know now. Personally, sure they may have. I'm not willing to give those assets up though and I'm not sure why we should be in order to get a guy who we know (through back channels) has half a foot through the door anyway. Why are we sacrificing potential stars for a piece we don't need to sacrifice for? That'd make us the Knicks.

Sure as did everyone else in the league. The deal they took was awful. If they settled on Oladipo/Sabonis, why are we even discussing Ball or Ingram?

I agree with this completely, I've been defending the skeptics even if I'm not one of them (yet).

To be fair to at least @Doc Brown he's against the plan no matter who is running it. I respect the position. I think most fans in general are there, but are also upset about the Russell deal so they're even more skeptical.

It sucks t see Russell go, but its not like we jumped at the first opportunity to deal him. We supposedly tried for awhile to get a trade done for him, yet no teams in the league really wanted him! Thats says a lot...

Ball projects as a decent shooter and Lopez is a good shooter... but Ingram and Randle are going to have to make a big leap for sure.

I don't want Rondo for precisely that reason. He can't shoot at all. Lonzo needs shooters to implement the offense.

I like the 2018 plan, though I really don't see the need to land 2 stars. All we need is George. I'd rather keep our assets (Randle, Clarkson) than try to liquidate them for a liability (Deng). Randle + Clarkson in 3 years would be in their prime, and much more valuable than a retired Lebron. So what's the hurry? I believe our young core + George would be enough to roll into 2020 as contenders.

On a side note, anyway ATL might take Clarkson in a trade for Crawford?

who's to say who will be the next one who un-proves themselves in a matter of weeks? hate to think we leaned heavily on byron scott's opinion...

    1. if reports are to be believed, they would have taken the #2. what we can't know is whether deng could have been attached.
    2. the knicks got their guy--who knows if they would have had melo become a FA. it was subsequent incompetence that hurt them, imo.

meanwhile, we were begging for that mistake to join us a couple years ago.

we had more to lose than the other teams holding things back. boston had hayward in the bag.

it's a shame they wanted us to suffer more than they wanted to help themselves, but i think there might have been room for creativity.

Why would we trade a player that's 10 years younger, more consistent, and similar in production?

Play with me for a second: number 2 pick and Deng for George.

Subsequently, the Mosgov and Russell deals goes through for Lopez.

Now, you have Paul George and your two albatross contracts are gone while adding a legit 5.

    Would you take that?

Maybe, but that's assuming that 1) we could make that deal and that 2) we could make that deal. :D

The Pacers took a far worse offer, yes or no? They weren't going to deal with us unless Ingram or Ball were included. Why would we include them if we've been assured George is coming? And we're just assuming they'd take back Deng. It's possible, but not worth losing sleep over in my opinion.

I would iamgine if this happened, we would've been players this yr in FA, sorry to keep on harping with Hayward but I would think he might have truly considered us if PG was on board, with Moz/Deng gone we might have had enough cash to also give Hill his long term deal as well, could imagine below team pretty easily

    Hill/Rondo (MLE type $)
    Hayward/Ingram/Hart
    PG/Ingram
    Randle/Nance/Kuz
    Lopez/Zu/Bryant

solid mix of vets and youth
