My mistake guys. I thought that was Jan 4th, not Dec 4th. If Dana did reveal this before the fight, it would have affected the fight for sure. Kind of hard to concentrate when you're the topic of drug allegations, so I understand why he didn't. Jones would have probably lost if he had that on his mind instead of the fight.
Definitely looks to me like they let the old man get his points, but I'd say the old man is also definitely avoiding their attempts. Still incredibly impressive for a man of his age against younger competition. He showed some great balance, good flexibility, and good explosive movement when he needed to.
Anyone else watch the free fight on Fox Sports One with Conor McGregor and Siver? McGregor is a pretty interesting fighter and it was clearly a set-up match for him. Siver wasn't in the same class. His fight with Jose Aldo should be a good one. McGregor was compared to Ali during the NFL Playoffs and I thought it was ridiculous, but watching him I get it. It's not necessarily a talent comparison, it's a comparison of who they are as entertainers. McGregor definitely has that "Ali"-esque air about him. Confident, talented, and with an underlying intelligence and understanding about himself and his business. The greats have that quality.
The scary thing about Conner is that he has effortlessly defeated everyone he has fought. Siver is a talented tough fighter and he looked like an amateur. More impressive was Connor's last fight against Daniel Portier(sp?) who is a beast in his own right. And Con dismantled him too. The biggest question for me is will his effortless, I mean does he even sweat?, dismantling of tough veterans and the up and comers translate into dominating the divisional elites. If he beats Aldo I cant say ill be surprised, if Aldo beats him I also wont be surprised... The truth will come out.
I didn't like the rush at the end of the fight. Felt staged or at least fake to build drama. I agree though that the way he fights is extraordinary. He gets away with not following traditional rules of engagement in the ring with his talent level, but will he be able to do that to Aldo? I don't know. Ali was able to do it for a long, long time.
Like I said I think his fight with Aldo is going clarify everything for us. But the problem with breaking the rules is that it always catches up with you. Whether that is against Aldo or much further down the line like it did with Ali and even Anderson. If he isn't the real deal Aldo might break him. If he is it will be a fight for the ages. I agree with you in that the whole storm the crowd thing is silly. I understand that part of the business is selling fights, but leave that kinda crap to the WWE.
I'm definitely intrigued about the fight though. I'm going to catch it for sure. I agree this fight will help provide clarity. McGregor has the stuff when he wants to do it. Siver is a cagey vet, but he just didn't have the athleticism at all to stay in the ring with McGregor. I don't think that'll be a problem with Aldo. We'll see.
Even though several of his recent fights haven't shown it, Aldo is on another level that's beyond even the divisions elite guys. I hope Connor is really as good as he says he is, or he is going to get hurt bad.
Exactly. McGregor is really good, but Aldo is a beast. This fight will tell us what McGregor is made of.
Holy crap, RUMBLE!!! Alex is a great fighter, but I always felt he was overrated due to his performance against Jones. I've always thought Jones underestimated him and took him too lightly, making him look better than he really was. Rumble v Jones is gonna be epic.
