Anyone giving a bleep about Alvarez vs Chavez Jr. May 6? http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2017/5/5...preview-prediction-breakdown-hbo-ppv-analysis Where have all the great American heavyweights gone?
I watch some of it when the hype and interesting fights happen but tend to find it a little too harsh. I was uncomfortable in school watching two guys that looked like they wanted to fight go at it bare knuckles and this with the elbows, feet and less padding on the fists. Though many of MMA are over more quickly I think. Boxing can go on longer with one or both's faces really messed up. I loved Ali. I loved Leonard. Duran. There were so many great fighters back in that era. Look at the guys Leonard had to fight in his career getting to the title and defending it. Duran blowing up in size with enough skill to fight and do well against prime Marvin Hagler. Can you imagine how huge that era and later's big fights would have been if they happened today? Muhammed Ali? The personalities and great fighters and it's like they became extinct save a few. Less chance of success in making good money in boxing now compared to much less painful other high dollar sports? But the great ones not all that long ago would be killing it today.
90K people attended Wlad vs Joshua last week Canelo is set to make over $20mil for tomorrow's fight...i'd say its still a thing
there are still many fun fighters to watch these days guys like Lomachenko, Kovalev, GGG, Crawford, Chocolatito, Mikey Garcia...its a shame they get lost in the pile of garbage boxers out there
I'm not a big boxing fan, but it's always fun to watch two talented fighters go at it. I streamed that Canelo Chavez fight, it wasn't even a fight. Just marketing. Now...Golovkin v Canelo will be a good show, though Golovkin may outclass him at that weight. If Floyd really wants to show he's the best, he should focus less on Connor and fight Triple G. But like his entire career, he'll just avoid everything.
Floyd doesn't avoid, he just waits...and waits...and waits until his opponent is a shell of their former selves. Not saying he's not great, but it wasn't a case of Roy Jones Jr. where he did try to fight everyone he could, he was just that much better than everyone at the time. Floyd had great fights available, he just waits cause he knows he can still make money even when they can't even hit him.
There have been a few great fights recently: Joshua vs Klitchsko Brook vs Errol Spence Jr Kovalev vs Ward With GGG vs Alvarez and Ward vs Kovalev II coming up as well.
Love boxing. Used to love MMA, but now apathetic towards it. It just feels like a bunch of street brawlers with the same skill set. The original UFC in the 90's and Pride Fighting were the best. You could really appreciate the skills of different disciplines, and the culture behind them. It evolved though to where everyone operates about the same and it just bores me. And the irony is when two fighters skills are equal, it ends up being a boxing match anyways. I would say that boxing is more interesting because of the limitations of it being about the hands, not kicking or ground and pound. Just hands. That turns it into a true skill match for me because those limitations require a precise game plan. Ward/Kovalev II should be a great one. I'm picking Ward in an easier fight than the first.
plus with Floyd and Manny not being major players anymore, we're seeing more fighters forced to face each other instead of waiting for that lotto ticket we've had fights with Thurman and Danny Garcia, the other fights that were mentioned above...we're about to have Broner vs Mikey Garcia and other showdowns coming up
So they have confirmed Floyd vs McGregor, while I applaud McGregor for getting his massive payday, my head just tells me that some of the best fighters the world had to offer couldn't get anywhere near Floyd so what chance does he have? Also the sparring video that came out of him getting tagged wasn't that encouraging.
He's going to get beat up. His best hope is a lucky shot with an overconfident Floyd, but Floyd is too disciplined to give that up. I think Floyd comes out early tags him a few times, then just defends the rest of the fight. Same story with Pacquiao.
He's not going to land any clean shots on Floyd. If he can at least corner him and land a flurry on Floyd's shoulders and arms or something, that'd be a hell of an accomplishment.
I like McGregor a lot. I despise Mayweather. This won't be close. You simply can't ask a boxer who is 0-0 to beat one who is 49-0. I'm no boxing historian, but Mayweather has to be top 5 defensive fighter all time. Love him or hate him, but he's amazing. Not sure I've seen a more disciplined fighter. He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not there to knock you out. he's scoring points, winning rounds, and not getting hit. Poor McGregor. I'm gonna hate seeing him lose.
FYI: If you put $1000 on McGregor, Vegas will pay you $7000 if he wins. Be smart. Put your money on Mayweather. Only get you about $100 for your $1000 bet, but at least you won't lose it.
I feel it was the wrong decision for the referee to stop the fight last night, really wanted Kovalev to win to set up a winner takes all third fight, but fair play to Ward, absolutely rocked him with that right. Just don't think the follow up body shots/potential low blow was enough to stop the fight.
