I think judging and evaluating Ball as an individual talent versus other singular players, especially as a point guard in a workout is missing the mark. What I am most interested in is how much better will 1/5 of of an equation make the other 4/5 of the team on the floor. Will Lonzo add 20% to Randle's efficiency?, 15% to Ingrams?, 8% to Nance's?, 15% to Russells?, etc, etc. As many of you, who like me, watched every UCLA game this past season, saw Ball create remarkable rhythm on the floor that increased the efficiency of the other 4/5 of the total unit on the court at any given point. In bringing in a point guard, evaluating individual skills in a workout is all well and fine, but giving it too much credence is being myopic.

Thing is that both the fans being biased toward Ball and him being the right pick can both be true.

    Per SI Crossover Best Fit

    2. Los Angeles Lakers: De’Aaron Fox, PG, Kentucky | Freshman

The answer is yes: Lonzo Ball was a serious contender for this spot. But his fit in Los Angeles is more about off-the-court considerations. As much as Lavar Ball would object to this scenario, and as thrilling as it would be to watch his son race up and down the floor and sling no-look passes alongside D’Angelo Russell in some reincarnation of the Showtime Lakers, that backcourt couldn’t cut it defensively against the Western Conference’s top units. Fox can’t shoot, but his stroke isn’t broken, and whatever value he detracts from Los Angeles’s offense early in his career, he’ll compensate for it by relentlessly harrying opposing guards.

Ball slides to Sac...teaming up with Hield.

    28. Los Angeles Lakers: Kyle Kuzma, PF, Utah | Junior

Kuzma really helped himself at the draft combine last month. His performance may not be enough to bump him into the first round, but the Lakers scored in a big way when they used the No. 27 pick in 2015 on a power forward with intriguing complementary skills (Wyoming’s Larry Nance Jr.). Nance’s success and Julius Randle’s eligibility for a contract extension need not be serious considerations in making this choice. If Kuzma can improve his three-point range and defense, he could excel as low-usage, back-of-the-rotation filler, and nothing more.

Jordan Bell (who I prefer instead) ends up with San Antonio?

For me Ball just feels like the right pick at 2, and that's whether I'm a UCLA fan or not. UCLA doesn't often have lottery caliber players like they used to (or even a lot of 1st rounders), so despite them being my team I don't often want those players as Lakers. I'm looking at Ball the same as I was looking at Ingram last season, he was my choice at 2. With the 2nd pick he is the best player available and fills a need to me. If we had the #1 pick or we moved down, just like like last 2 years things would probably be different (Towns over Russ, Simmons over Ingram).

Just to be clear, I am not accusing you of creating a Ball v X debate. You did seem to be a Fox guy from earlier posts, but I wasn't really arguing against him. The only thing I took issue with from your post above was what I saw as a reductionist characterization of Ball as only an exceptional passer.

I do think exceptions to the rule in the case of the draft are important to consider, especially when there is no actual rule. MJ was selected THIRD! Larry Bird was drafted sixth behind such luminaries as Phil Ford and Rick Robey. Even the experts miss a lot.

Uhhh ... yes, actually lol. Was trying to think of our recent draft picks and had honestly temporarily forgot Clarkson was a second rounder because it didn't fit in with the point I was trying to make :D

I still think you have a better chance at getting a difference maker the higher you draft and second rounders are not a dependable asset. Even if it's someone I don't personally prefer like Jackson, I'd rather have the team pick the player they want at 2 then settle for their preferred leftover at 3-10 just to get second rounders.

I had occasion last year to shoot and produce a 2nd event video in 5 years for a true princess. Iranian and the daughter of the chief scientist and oil industry minister in Iran back in the days prior to the Shah being put in place. She came to the US and ran in circles of Washington with photos of her with Jackie Kennedy, presidents and was a social activist and philanthropist. She used to own the famous Malibu Castle before it burned down in a fire.

images lilly lawrence malibu castle In 2011 I produced a "groundbreaking party / dinner in tents on the site with steel girders already in place for the foundation. Something happened in the interim to Feb 2016 where she opted to sell the site instead, and last year a 2nd dinner / housewarming / book signing for family friend of the Iranian oil industry back in the day. Still a mansion but smaller mansion up near top of Reseda Blvd. She was huge Elvis fan and owns his memorabilia pair of army fatigues.

Was told the irish classic, "Danny Boy" was one of their favorite pieces of music and to find a place within the edit for it. I found a gorgeous instrumental piece to use for the title sequence, and then later in the edit in an emotional cake cutting ceremony for her author friend I dropped in this live audio version I found of Elvis doing the song.

Absolutely. I'm biased toward Ball because I think he's the best fit. I've done too many hours of research on these kids. I can see the pros and cons of all the top kids and Ball fits best with our roster and that's just reality at this point with the 2nd pick. If we had one I'm going with Fultz based on his overwhelming scoring ability. At 2 though it's Ball. Fox can't shoot and really isn't going to be a great defender either right away. Tatum is a terrific scorer who needs the ball. Isaac is a versatile forward with projectable defense and shooting, but a project and at a position we have plenty of bodies at. Jackson is a great passing wing with terrific defensive instincts, but a bad shooter and doesn't handle the ball well.

I understand and agree with many of Ball's faults. He's not a great ball handler, has struggled with pressure, has limited sample size with pick and roll, is physically thin and avoids contact around the rim too much, he has shown that he may not handle quickness very well defensively. However, because we have Russell some of those weaknesses can be covered. If Ball doesn't feel comfortable early bringing the ball up the court, he can give it to Russell. He can be a cutter on the baseline in space. He can be a spacer and use his jumper to take the top off the defense.

I completely agree! That's why I want as much as we can get. I trust us to get two contributors in the second round, but if we can get another lottery pick and slide to only 4, I do it. I trust us to add two starters there.

Looks to me like the Lakers are in an interesting spot. If the BOS/PHI deal is going to get done it appears that BOS would prefer that Jackson be there for them at 3.

Total speculation on my part, but perhaps the Lakers can leverage that, swap 2 for 3 and pick up an asset in exchange for guaranteeing BOS gets their guy, although that somewhat lowers the salary flexibility BOS would get by dropping from 1 to 3

Would be unprecedented...Essentially a 3-way trade where the top three picks are traded amongst the top three teams.

Probably won't happen, but this situation is exactly why the Lakers were right to keep everyone guessing about who they really want.

Early Elvis such as from The Sun Sessions and the 2 and a half minute singles mega hits of his early years, when listening back I've always cared for more than the Elvis in his white outfit Las Vegas period body of work. Just me. Spent a lot of years at Warner Bros Records and WMG concurrently with the video and imaging work. Just name dropping a lot today [IMG] as am anticipating soon losing my poster of the month status to sirron.

Trade down to 4, then leak that la will take fox at 4 forcing sac hand n trade down with Sac n attach deng with it lol, so deng/4 for 5th, ball is still there at 5th

    Fultz (phi)
    Jackson (phi)
    Tatum (bos)
    Fox (sac)
    Ball (lal)

So we also prevent cbags from getting their guy at same time lol, I highly doubt Ainge would be willing to take Ball w/o a workout, so Tatum is next best wing after Jj

Following the instrumental Danny Boy in the beginning the very first music selection I started with was about 20 seconds in of available audio to a low volume mix with this track I found. Was my most favorite that I had not used in the first video or here yet so I used it first and it worked terrifically with the opening footage of she and man in their entryway starting to greet people as they arrived. Think about the words man .... that hurts!!
