Depends what they get. It is possible, but they'd have to dump salary To make it happen.

A lot of maneuvering is going to have to happen, only Horford and Amir Johnson make more than $10 mil. Good thing for them is Butler is a huge contract.

    Horford - 27.7
    Bradley - 8.8
    Zeller - 8 (non-guaranteed)
    IT - 6.3
    Crowder - 6.8
    Brown - 4.9
    Smart - 4.5
    Rozier - 2.0
    Olynyk - 4.2 QO
    Butler - 18.7
    Jackson - 1.4 (non-guaranteed)
    Mickey - 1.5 (non-guaranteed)
    1 cap hold - 800k

    Total - 95.6

    Butler is possible

Max cap space after adding Butler assuming no draft picks this year.....

    Horford - 27.7
    Bradley - 8.8
    IT - 6.3
    Crowder - 6.8
    Brown - 4.9
    Smart - 4.5
    Rozier - 2.0
    Butler - 18.7
    5 cap holds - 4

Total - 83.7..........18.3 million cap space

Need to cut 12 million to get room for Hayward's max at 30.6. Depending how much more they would need to gut their team, they could do it, but they would have to get rid of one or two of Bradley/Smart/Crowder. Or Hayward could take a pay cut in the 25 million range and all bets are off.

Really quickly, their STATS. Not projections:

Fultz 6.6 scoring, 3.6 passing, 3.0 hustle, and 92 positional efficiency at PG, 91 at Wing.
Ball 5.7 scoring, 4.1 passing, 2.9 hustle, 89 positional efficiency at PG, 80 at Wing.
Russell was 6.2 scoring, 3.5 passing, and 2.6 hustle, for a positional efficiency of 81 at PG and 81 at Wing.

    Russell in the NBA:
Rookie: 5.7 scoring, 3.1 passing, 2.4 hustle, and 67 positional efficiency at PG and 67 at wing.
Year 2: 6.1 scoring, 3.6 passing, 2.4 hustle, and 81 positional efficiency at PG and 79 at wing.
Russell, then, is already every bit as good in the NBA as he was in college.

    thanks.

i'd be hard pressed to trade russell for any draftee, and if that, it would be fultz.

i get why teams would want to move up to get fultz. and quite frankly, i think the fan base is going to be fine with all this, as ball will be there at 2 no matter what. just drives home that this is the fultz draft like two years ago was the towns draft.

    philly

la. still, though: in some ways, the draft is about conjuring a superstar from nothing. in this case, maybe philly does it three times over and the lakers zero. yes, two of those guys may not play enough to matter...still...damn lotto.

guess i should just be happy we're not sending the pick to philly.

C'mon guys .... Ingram alone is going to take a big leap this year. Randle in by far the best shape of his life and determined to stay a Laker, shooting better and better with right hand. This is a natural progression since he's putting in the work. Russell the same thing.

I do hate them but man Ainge does deserve credit, I didn't give him any for the nets heist because king is a moron but what Ainge could do now with that #1 is ingenious....this kind of innovative thinking is something jimbo and Mitch could never think off

^^^ If Lonzo wants to hear "you're our guy" the only way we can tell if they said that is if he works out for another team. If he does, they didn't.

i'm over the ainge idolatry. isn't this the same dude who offered several picks for both winslow and kaminsky? he was saved from his own stupidity in these cases.

his main claim to fame is fleecing billy king (an honor shared with...f***ing everyone ever). even then, no way he could have predicted that trade would have turned out like this. no way.

and now we want to throw a parade because he's trading out of the #1 pick in a draft wherein the #1 pick is largely considered head and shoulders above everyone else? to draft a guy who's a bit of a play-alike to the guy he reached for at #3 last year?

Ainge is one of the best GMs in the league! I said it over at leftistground years ago when he blew up the C Bags and hoodwinked the Nets

Always wished Mitch had the balls to do that

    Ball or Bust IMO..
Unless there's a legit All-Star caliber trade involved.
