I think there are three solid types of FA:

Bargain Bin: of which there are some good choices.
MLE-types: there are a few who could do wonders for this team.
Short, high $$ deals: there are a few really fascinating players who could be difference makers.

What exactly do short term, big money deals give us for this upcoming season?

    a. Mentorship
    b. More wins
    c. More attractive for FAs next season
    d. Possibility of finding a role they are happy with and sticking around for the "payoff" of our sucking these past few years.

I love you for the effort... I'm gonna push that coffee cup back on your side and say for real TRodg? Lol. How do you feel about taking on another expiring contract for a pick, then you try to combine that to possibly unload MozDeng. I like Millsap on this team if you trade Randle but that's about it. Others will take away from our young players development.

Seems like to go after George and perhaps someone else in 2018 we got to unload one of MozDeng this summer.. and see how the other fares until possibly making a trade deadline package trade or trade in that upcoming off season.

Dude, @SFGOLDRUSHER , this is exactly what I'm thinking. I've suggested that there are ways that we can do all three of those things:
    a. If #2 for #5 and #10 is possible, I do it. We end up with one of: Fultz, Ball, Fox, Tatum, Jackson. And we get another top 10 pick.
    b. Package 28 and some stuff to move Deng.
    c. Package 10 and some stuff to move Mozgov.
    d. Open up room to add Millsap.

From page 46: Scenario 2, here's a possible team we could end up with:
    Russell/Jason Terry
    George/Nwaba
    Ingram/Rudy Gay
    Millsap/Nance
    Lopez/Zubac
--It's a good team. We add nine all-star appearances to the roster, and we still have a core that's under 30 except for Millsap. I project this team at 56 wins next season.

There are honestly so many ways to go with our resources that I hope we legit explore some options for adding firepower now and don't try to do it all in one year.

Nice post. Yeah it might take a trade without MozDeng, to setup a trade shortly after for us to have a different package to move Moz/Deng.

You really think Gay comes here to be a backup? Also, is Ennis,Brewer,Robinson and Black all gone as part of those track packages?

Instead of Gay are you open to after doing all the business to get George, the trades to move Moz AND Deng to take on an expiring contract to get a pick.. then we try to take that pick and Lopez for someone younger and can move up and down the court, play better D and is way cheaper to setup another all star to come in 2018?

He wanted to be a bigger part of the offense, but when they dumped the ball down to him in the post he was horrible. The offense was more or less catered to him the same way Van Gundy catered to Dwight and Drummond averaged less points, less assists, and less blocks... He's a dingleberry. I'd still take him because like you said when he's focused, he's a damn good player, but... how often does he focus? What does it take to get him to buy in? Drummond is getting paid over 100 million over the next four years. I'd rather have my money in him than in Deng, but we'd still have a lot of capital tied up when we're trying to be FA grabbers next summer.

I'm down with lots of things. I think that if we offer Gay one year at $14M, he's happy - he probably has a long rehab at his age.
Ennis/Robinson are gone as expendable, but I don't mind bringing back either at under 2m. I don't pay a cent more. Brewer and Black had to be traded in those scenarios, but I like both guys.
Happy to take on expiring contracts in the process.

That's a lot of team turnover in one offseason. Especially with Magic and Rob saying they're waiting for 2018.

I'm all for it though, that's a playoff team and I am tired of losing. Heck I always do this in 2K but you're quite ambitious with this.

    Fun for off season though.

We don't have to go so far, and we probably won't, but we are within striking distance of the playoffs - just not with all our young guys.

I wanted to give some context to these FA numbers that I use, so I looked at the first team all-nba and ran their numbers:

    Leonard +18
    LeBron +16
    Davis +15
    Westbrook +10
    Harden +6

Please no Dummond, I think he's one of the most over-rated players in the game today.

When you factor in we have a young up and coming center in Zubac and are already log jammed at C & PF with Luke wanting to go small - trading for or signing Drummond makes zero since IMO.

All out pkg with Sac...unlikely but fantasy purposes

    #2/#28th/deng/jc
    For
    5th/10th/middling 2nd rder

Use opened up cap to take on pau/green from S.A. n get their late 1st.

Use 10th/S.A. 1st to boot Moz for 22nd pick from nets.

    #5-bpa, most likely dsj/fox/tatum/monk group.

#22- take a flyer on Giles if still there or so wilson (stretch 4/5 potential)

Still large cap space to absorb expiring deals for asset if we find any

    Dlo/#5 pick/ennis
    Green/2nd rder/nwaba
    Ingram/brewer/#22
    Randle/nance/#22/trob
    Pau/Zu/black

Pau will expire if anyone is concerned

After watching him in the Finals, I think I might be willing to give Iguodala some cash this summer. I'm nervous about a Deng situation, but I'd like to chip away at that team if I can. He's 33 years old, but he played enormous minutes once again in this Finals.

Golden State has to pay a lot of people this summer. We've got 20 some odd million to spend. I might be willing to offer Iggy all our FA cash for one year or maybe something like 2/36 million or something. It might complicate our plans next summer, but it'll give us clout that we thought we'd get with Deng. I don't know. Maybe I'm a slave to the moment, but I think he's the type of guy who could actually help establish a culture and who could also give us FA clout.

I'm also starting to lean towards waiving Deng. I'm not sure I want to give up assets to drop him since it'll take a pretty hefty tag to do it (I've read a lottery pick). If we waive him, he costs us some cash every summer, but at least he's just gone and we don't have to think about him anymore.

Better to waive him after 18' season, so the amt per yr of dead $ is less

If we waive him this summer: 7.7142857
If we waive him next summer: 7.362

I'm not that concerned over the amount... But yeah I suppose that makes sense. I just don't want him on the team anymore. :D
