    Pat Shurmur? Heh? No...
    Eric Mangini? NO! NO! NO!

Mike Holmgren out of the retirement home? What? What? Really? What...?

I think we need the continuity of Sparano and McKenzie together. If we're not getting a true impact, elite coach (e.g, Gruden), I don't want to see a change.

^Consistency is built from continuity and familiarity, I agree. Meanwhile...Larry Fitzgerald is speculated to have played his last game in 'Zona. Hmmm...

All depends on his price tag. He's clearly on the decline in terms of health.

Mike Shanahan and his kid? Madden sits in on interview too? Things turning for the weird... Ambivalent about the possibility. Sparano up today. Probably a formality and a thank you send off. Would like to see him retained as a top assistant.

Not really interested in the Shanahans if it's a GM/Coach combo.

Neither am I. He ran RGIII to the ground. One story had him sending a concussed Terrell Davis in the game even though he was a decoy. I read that he and Elway did not end in good terms either. Yeah...that Shanahan. I wouldn't trust him with a bicycle. He and Schottenheimer I both despise. Ex-Falcon Coach Mike Smith now being bantered around. I'd give him a serious look...

In another story, SoCal DT Leonard Williams WANTS to be a Raider. Yes, WANTS. Sigh...if only that were to happen. Love the sentiment even from this UCLA alum. I'd pick him in a heartbeat over any receiver.

Looks like you got Jack Del Rio. Could have done worse.

Del Rio should be a good coach there.

He did well in Jacksonville even with a not so stellar crew. He'll be inheriting a young squad that barring injuries have really good potential. Carr, Murray, Mack, Ellis, Hayden, Carrie... Veterans like Woodson and Tuck that will enforce accountability.

Marc Trestman now being considered for the OC job? Now, THAT will be a coup. Del Rio can work his mojo on the D while the former will take on the offense.

I'm not blown away by Del Rio, but I don't hate the move either.

I'll take any coach who realizes the Raiders have to let Carr throw the ball and have to run Murray as primary back. I like our young core but I really think we need a true #1 WR.

As a 49er fan, trust me on this one: YOU DO NOT WANT TRESTMAN! ! ! ! ! ! !

Trestman did very well working with Gannon. No offense to Kapernick, but Carr is a much more cerebral player, like Gannon (and Steve Young). I think the problems with the 49ers began and ended with Harbaugh.

What are your thoughts on him? Statistically, the Raiders defense was horrible, but he's not bringing the players with him. Also, I don't know what capacity he'll be employed as. Might be D Coord or LBs.

I think the D has improved significantly despite dealing with tons of injuries. If he's LB coach, fantastic - Oakland has excellent LBs and they have made steady progress with him (SF probably has even better LBs overall, so they'll be fine). I think much of Oakland's defensive problems came early on from a non-existent running game. Defense was simply on the field too much.
