C Bags could potentially have 11 1st round picks over the next 4 years.

And here we are on the cusp of losing our lottery pick this season.

Well, there is two thing we could be doing that would be help greatly; play our young talent more which will increase the likely of us losing games and increases the chances of us keeping our pick.

I've personally emotionally divested myself from craving the desire to compete at this point because what is really being accomplished presently? Nothing. Play our young talent, keep the pick. Pretty darn easy.

Fun game tonight. Welcome Tarik Black!! That was an amazing debut! Booz and Lin also had themselves some fine games off the bench.

This is what happens when you let the likes of Coward and Gasol walk for nothing ...

Who cares about the C Bags. Having 1st rounders' guaranteed contract limits our ability to sign free agents. If Phoenix gets our pick it's no big loss. I think there are only 3 good players who can be something in the upcoming draft. We're about immediate contributors.

Look at the majority of superstar player movement in FA. How many big time players just walked to a different team? How many of them were traded to a different team before they walked?

We had two of the players that walked for nothing. I'll take the C Bags 11 picks and when the next superstar comes available, I tell that soon to be rebuilding team, how many 1sts is it going to cost me to get him?

Not trading Dwight when everyone knew that turd wasn't staying, not trading Pau for anything and the ridiculously stupid protections on the picks for a 40 year old Steve Nash have us sweating right now over our top pick.

If you can call Coward big time then him. As discussed ad nauseam, the lakers tried to trade pau, nobody bit. The Lakers FO was trying to lure Nash who they thought would amount to something if paired with 3 other stars. It didn't work. It was an overcompensation to the Stern screwjob, and the fact that JB was dying. I don't envy the C Bags 11 picks and I'm not worried if we lose the pick to Phoenix. We have a manageable payroll, which we can parlay into a star despite your pessimism. This is still the Lakers, don't let the media noise influence you. We shall rise again.

The statement about the Lakers trying to trade Pau and nobody bit is absolutely false. The Lakers had solid deals immediately after CP3 (Martin,Scola,Dragic,1st) and the deals kept getting weaker and weaker until he was an expiring at the trade deadline. At that time no team was going to trade for him if he wasn't staying and no team was going to trade for him if they could just sign him in the offseason.

Lakers horribly managed that and it definitely wasn't as simple as nobody bit.

What does the pick protection have to do with luring Nash? He wanted to come here and PHX was going to do him a favor. Just because someone is dying and we got screwed in the past doesn't mean we just hand gifts in draft picks. Look at the trade protections in trades, I bet we had some of the most generous trade protections.

Here is what a PRIME Lebron James got traded for when he went to the Heat -
    - 2 1st round picks and 2 second round picks - Sounds familiar right?
    - 1st round pick - Top 10 protected in 2015, 2016, unprotected 2017
    - 1st round pick 2013 - Top 10 protected

A prime Lebron had those trade stipulations. Steve Nash was worth a top 5 protected at 40 years old?

I'm not a pessimist, more realistic in the sense that I look at the NBA now (players want their buddies, no loyalty, name isn't everything anymore) and that very few star players up and leave in FA to a different team.

Sitting back and waiting on the 2015 plan, the 2016 plan isn't a smart plan if we are going to keep constructing teams with one year deal players that are good enough to win us 25 games and then remake the roster again the next season.

The Martin, Scola, Dragic, and a 1st looks way better in retrospect though. Doesn't it?
Scola had shown signs of aging in the 11/12 season, posting 13/7, and then was good for 8/5 and 9/6 after that.

Martin missed a ton of time from 07/08 to 11/12. His PPG dipped from 24 to 17 to 14 before the past two seasons.

Dragic hadn't posted more than 8/3 in a season until that 11/12 season.

I think it wasn't a BAD deal, mind you, but it sure looks better in hindsight.

    Dragic
    Kobe
    Martin
    Scola
    Hill
    That ain't bad.

What did Martin and 2 1st round picks turn into?

It's the trend when any superstar gets traded. We shot ourselves in the foot big time with not getting ANYTHING for D12/Pau and being reckless with our picks (protection). Having cap space is nice, but you also have to have someone to accept it.

I haven't seen someone this clutch since Kobe. Maybe the next closest being Brandon Roy.

What is it about Portland that breeds those 4th Quarter guards?

I tell you, no lead is safe with the likes of Lillard unless you have like a 20 point lead with less than 5 minutes to go. And even then he can still get the game close. That is one bad mofo.
I'm not too mad at these loses at this point. As mentioned more losses gets us closer to keeping that pick. I do like that they at least compete and keep the game close. They just lack the pure talented closer that Kobe used to be or that ones like Lillard and Durant are.
All the same, that dunk by Lillard was demoralizing. Sick, but demoralizing.
