DRAFT TALK Thread: Looking Like Lonzo

Do it. In a sense; I mean, in all fairness, Lonzo might not be that great of a 1-on-1 player, but his ability to impact the team, get others involved, facilitate ball movement, may be better and lead to more wins on the court.

 

The Lakers got serious holes to fill, and 3 pgs... I am not dogging out Clarkson, but sooner or later he has to get paid, and the Lakers have other needs. To me it makes no sense to have 3 starting PGS, or to run a closing line up of Clarkson, Russell, Ball, Ingram, and Randle. So who is gonna sit while being paid a huge salary?

 

If Lonzo is really good .... and with Luke / Magic / Rob / Kobe's design on how they are going to play the game .....it's Showtime again !!

 

Who has the huge salary? I wouldn't consider $13m as "huge." Everyone else is on their rookie contracts for at least another year. Let's just accumulate the assets and figure everything else out later.

 

You're worried about his shot and his pick and roll play?

Considering he shot 70% from the field and 40% from outside, which very few college players have ever done, I really think people need to stop being concerned with his shot. He wouldn't be a top prospect if his shot was broken and was only an assist guy.

In terms of his pick and roll play, I don't see a big issue here either. He's a smart player who could easily learn the dynamics of something as simple as the pick and roll. But like I responded to abeer, this team runs more of a Motion offense which utilizes off ball movement and screens much a do to Golden State. Ball's vision and passing ability almost fits that mold to a tee. Russell free off the ball, don't worry about him turning the ball over and focus on his stroke. Ingram diving to the basket for dunks. Randle off pick and rolls.

Not to mention, how much faster our offense would be with him pushing the pace up the floor and teams don't get a chance to set their defense.

 

after watching ball and fox's highlight tapes, i've realized that i'm fine with either one. both are good passers and athletic. ball has the better shot right now but fox's shot will no doubt improve over time

why i lean more towards fox right now though is because he's far better on D and let's face it, this team has sucked on D for pretty much this entire decade. drafting fox might finally be the start of this franchise's long overdue commitment to defense. what's the point if we have a bunch of guards who can score but the D is so bad they're giving up 130 pts every night

 

Every Time I watched Ball play this year the image of Kendall Marshall shot through my brain. Marshall was awesome in college like Ball, but never translated in the NBA. He will be the pick IMO, so much hype has followed this hometown boy they just gotta pull the trigger. What could be interesting though when the dust clears after the lottery picks are taken, is if the Kings offer 5 and 10 for him and they have Fox plus Collins to offer as Draft Express' mock shows. Would you do that trade?

 

Fultz is going to Boston. He is exactly what Brad Stevens system needs. Lonzo will be a Laker in 5 weeks because he is EXACTLY what the Lakers need. Will they be franchise players? I say no. But maybe it's because there are too many 19 year olds coming out of college that arent Lebron right away and it's muttered my thoughts.

If Lonzo leads the Lakers to the playoffs next year as a rookie PG? The Lakers will have a 1996esque free agent impact in 2018. And with that, will be title contenders going into 2019. Not a bad turn around after Kobe's exit in 2016.

 

Or maybe we've giving up 130 points because we're not taking care of the ball, getting bad looks in a stagnant offense, and lack of effort on defense because of the poor efficiency on the offensive end.

I don't think anyone thought Klay was be the defender he is out of college, but he definitely has become a premier perimeter defender because of his work ethic and the physical and athletic tools that he has. That's what I think gives Lonzo an edge to improve defensively because he's so competitive, got good size and athleticism.

 

Kendall Marshall was the 13th pick in 2012. He was never that good in college.

 

I'd like to get a better feel for his one on one defense.

 

Yeah, Kendall Marshall wasn't nearly as good of a shooter as Ball was.

 

Gotcha. He'll struggle on that end, and if he's pigeonholed into the "PG" position, he'll struggle, IMO. Whatever, though; at least we kept our pick.

 

Also, a lot of that talk does feel like its part of the hype to me. He's stated multiple times he's the best guard in the draft and he wants to be a Laker. That's great. It should show up in a workout.

 

No player except for MJ and Kobe from what I have seen in my lifetime didn't have weaknesses. If Zo can get the guys to get the ball a haf second before the defense knows, then he will be exactly what the lakers need.

To me, that's like judging Zubac and Mozgov solely on their 40 yd dash times. Not as relevant as something else.

 

The only player that would do a REAL one on one workout is Kobe (and of course MJ). They were crazy, ready to go against the world. Todays guys are p****** but i get that lol. We have the pick and that's all that matters...
(Freakin Bron is so insecure, he couldn't do a stupid slam dunk contest, knowing NBA would not let him lose anyways ffs...)
