Exactly. We've got plenty of youth as is.

Embiid deserves to be in LA with that kind of personality

I don't see a scenario where we get Butler and PG without giving up enough assets that keeps us close, but not good enough to win it all. Unless we swindle someone, I keep the pick (at least until trade deadline) and trust that PG comes here next year.

It really seems to me the Lakers are not looking to splash this summer. Probably more towards the deadline.

Very surprising and encouraging. Might also be posturing to boost the value.

As I've said before, there's no championship to be had until LeBron slows down and the Warriors possibly start to split up, so we need to play it smart. That's why I agreed with what Magic and Rob said, and why I wouldn't easily part with players/assets like Russ and Zu. Russ deserves one more year to me, and Ingram is pretty untouchable (because I don't think he'd land us a franchise changer, otherwise he isn't). If we want to play the long game and we draft Ball or Fox I'm not gonna be upset either though, I'm just thrilled we have options now with this pick.

    I don't think so.

The subtext I'm seeing all over the place: George in FA 2018 along with someone else. This summer they'll focus on dumping Deng (probably with the Houston pick). They'll use their FA cash as a buffer and then try to get George AND somebody (Westbrook?) next summer. All signs point that direction right now.

100% agreed. I was just surprised to see two pages of "TRADE THE PICK!" :D

I think there's a very, very good chance the Lakers keep the pick and it's almost a lock they take Lonzo at this stage. He's just the right fit for the team as it's constructed.

What's the situation with Paul George making the all-NBA team next season? I know if he makes it this season he gets major money from the Pacers if he re-signs in 2018, but why doesn't that apply if he makes it next year and not this year? If it does, how is that not a concern on waiting for him in free agency?

I just think that no matter what team you put together if we could, say somehow: George, Griffin, Butler - still wouldn't compete against a Golden State or Cleveland.

I feel in 2-3 years we can develop our team while the Warriors start having to dismantle their team because they're going to have to start paying their guys.

Then we strike with the trades and free agents.

Amazing that it's #2 three years in a row.

I'll be very happy with Ball if he's the pick.

They may want to wait until the trade deadline. All these guys who want to remain Lakers will have stepped their games up and trade value will be higher. Am sure they would like to see how the young guys look like come camp, pre-season games and early part of the season. What's the rush now. PG has to be looking at us and smiling. We sure as hell look more attractive to him now with that pick or with what we do with that pick.

We have TWO first round picks this year folks.

With our draft team, that makes me feel pretty good. I think Magic's plan of giving our youth another year in another environment is probably the best course of action.

They will either increase their trade value or develop most likely, and be in the best shape of their lives. We may have quite a future dynasty ahead of us if we are patient enough to let it develop.

You might be right, but we also desperately need all our effort and defense, which is why I'm high on Fox. If not Ball at 2, always possible we could trade down to 4 or 5 for Fox and get something good along with him.

My best guess right now assuming no one trades anything:

    1. Fultz- is he a winner? maybe not, but he's the most talented guard and they desperately need one.
    2. Ball- his style best suits the Lakers in this draft and the Lakers love the dramatic story right?
    3. Fox- Simmons will control the ball a lot, but Fox makes them dynamic offensively.
    4. Jackson- Suns need defense and need a wing. Makes way too much sense here.
    5. Tatum- Gay leaves, Tatum enters. Also a good fit for them.
    6. Monk- Smith might be more talented, but they love Payton.
    7. Isaac- Project, but could be a good fit next to Towns long-term.
    8. Ntilinka- Knicks throw you for a loop, but get a big guard. We all know Phil loves his big guards.
    9. Smith- Mavs need the PG of the future. Smith is talented but needs a good coach.
    10. Markannen- I have no idea what the Kings do with this pick with Smith gone. Not a great fit, but probably best talent there.
