As far as not getting our hopes up, its too late for me. I will be upset if we miss out on the pick.

pair this with kobe running out of gas 25 games in, and you've got an obvious tank begging to happen. I'm guessing they won't commit to it, though. suns will get the 7th pick.

Just because they're not openly saying it, doesn't mean we're not tanking though. Just look at the standings now. We're still very much locked in to the bottom five teams in terms of talent and production.

    Recent "standings":

    1. Knicks 5-33
    2. Sixers 5-29
    3. Wolves 5-29
    4. Lakers 11-25
    5. Magic 13-25
    6. Pistons 12-23
    7. Hornets 13-24
    8. Jazz 13-23
    9. C Bags 12-21
    10. Pacers 14-23

I think that's more or less where things will end up actually with us coming in 4th to last overall. We're not better than the Magic, the Pistons, or the Hornets. Maybe the Jazz fall closer to us, but I think they're better than us too.

Yeah. At one point I thought the Knicks might pull something together, but they are in full tank mode at this point as well. They are the real shocker for me this year. I didn't think they were contenders, but they shouldn't be as bad as they are.

Great, so now I should be rooting for a loss against the magic? What a trash year. Might as well just start Clarkson from now on and play Kobe every other game.

yep. lakers won a bunch of these meaningless games against other bottom feeders last year. can't repeat that pattern when it means losing the pick.

agree with the above: surprised the knicks were THIS bad this year. I thought boston would be worse and det would be better. still a chance for both of those to happen.

btw, the lakers need to be watching boston: sell off everything. everything. now.

Like Magic said, if were gonna tank... lets effing tank. Which means start Clarkson,Ellington,Young,Kelly&Davis. Let Kobe play once in a while, these are the players that need the most playing time. We know what we have with everyone else. Atleast thatll be fun for the true Laker fans to watch what several of these players have to offer for us down the road.

To be honest, a top 5 pick makes 5 million dollars a year or so I believe, so to be honest, as much as we all want the pick, its not the end of the world because with that money that we save it pretty much covers Youngs salary.

Yet, just freaking yet, the East is so freaking putrid that we still won. I hate the Eastern Conference.

I just realized our record vs the East is better than 12 Eastern teams' records against the West.

The East is THAT bad.

I didn't expect us to win that game, but the Magic have no heart over there. Harris is their closest thing to a star and he's nowhere near ready for that kind of responsibility. He might never be.

I still think it's a solid indicator that we're basically tanking without saying it, right?

I think the tank is on. With three teams not looking like they will even crack 20 wins, I am not sure we have much of a choice.

They sat Kobe what more would you like of them? I think they're actually taking the tank a little more seriously this season if anything. The East is just that bad.

Don't worry man, we play the West a lot more this season. We'll end up with a Bottom Five record... Whether that means we get a bottom five pick?... I don't know. We're not the Cavs.

Starting February 1st, we have 35 games left; 15 of those are against Eastern Conference teams. Actually, our schedule gets less difficult as the season progresses...it's a pretty easy solution. Keep sitting Kobe, play more of our young talent for longer periods of time, and start legitimately tanking these games.
