For those keeping track at home, that'll leave us with about 22-23 million assuming we a) get the pick and b) waive our rights to Nick and Tarik.

    Max contracts will be:
    0-6 years ~ 24 million
    6-9 years ~ 29 million
    10+ years ~ 34 million

If we lose the pick, we're looking at right around 28 million. If we stretch/waive Deng we'd have 38 million to spend. We'd have about 32 million and some change if we keep the pick, drop the non-guaranteed deals, and waive/stretch Deng.

So, 101 is slightly lower than what I'd heard (102-104). Let's revisit some of the thoughts I'd laid out previously.

How did you arrive at 22-23?

    17.2 Deng
    15.3 Mozgov
    11.6 Clarkson
    07.6 Brewer
    05.6 Russell
    05.5 Ingram
    04.7 #3 Pick
    04.1 Randle
    01.3 Rance
    01.2 Late 1st
    01.1 Zubac
    75.2

    Cap Space: 25.8

If we can move Deng in a trade of Paul George, that would be a god send.

    Let's say Randle (4.1) + Deng (17.2) + #3 Pick (3.9) for Paul George (19.3)

We could save around 5.9M to the trodgers projected 25.8 - giving us around $30M to work with and sign a 6-9 max contract player (Blake Griffin).

After all of our guarantees (Deng, Mozgov, Clarkson, Brewer, Russell, Ingram, Top 3, Randle, Nance, Zubac, and the Houston 1st Round pick) we're at 77,292,327 million (cap holds also included). That leaves us with a little more than 23.7 million dollars to spend.

I wouldn't make that deal ;) but if we gave up that for George we're looking at just over 71.25 million in guarantees and cap holds. That'd leave us 29.75 million or so to spend.

Suppose we are able to trade JR/JC/HOU for PG13.

LAKERS 2016/17: Our "current" starting five, the five players with the most starts this season, combine to average 57.0 points, 11.5 assists, 24.6 rebounds, and they hit 373 threes.

Here are some ways we could go, assuming we keep that top3 pick:

    SCENARIO 1: NUGGETS
    Top3+Mozgov+Deng for Gallinari, Faried
-This is premised on the notion that Gallinari is likely to leave.

    NUGGETS 2017/18
    Nelson/Mudiay
    Harris/Barton
    *Josh Jackson*/Miller
    Deng*/Hernangomez/Arthur
    Jokic/Mozgov*
The Nuggets have to give up Faried, but they get Josh Jackson for the future, Deng to slide into the 4, and Mozgov as a quality backup. It's not ideal for them, but at least they get a probable long term starter for Gallinari's exit and some veteran presence.

    LAKERS 2017/18
    Russell/Ennis
    George/Nwaba
    Ingram/Brewer
    Gallinari/Faried/Nance
    Zubac/Black

We get rid of those two awful contracts, add a shooter to spread the floor, and have flexibility to go small (Faried or Black at Center). We'd still need a Guard, but someone would come because it's likely a playoff team. Still, it's not going to win big unless Russ, BI, and Zubac are all significantly improved.

Our starting lineup averages: 74.4 points, 13.2 assists, 23.5 rebounds and hits 511 threes.

    SCENARIO 2: KINGS
We offer Deng and the top3 for Gay and Cauley-Stein. It's not a popular move in the short term, but it frees up big $ at two points in time.

    KINGS 2017/18
    *Ball*
    Hield/Afflalo
    Temple
    Deng/Tolliver
    Koufos/Papagiannis

They're a very young team, well on the path to rebuilding, and with lots of $ to do so, too.

    LAKERS 2017/18
    Russell/Ennis
    George/Nwaba
    Ingram/Gay/Brewer
    Ilyasova*/Black/Nance
    Mozgov/Zubac/Cauley-Stein

This is NOT a better team than the other one, but it does have a lot of expiring money (at least 28.3M) after the 2017/18 season. And the team would still have about 17M in cap space to add another player for 17/18, say Ilyasova, which is my preference.

This starting five averages: 69.2 points, 12.7 assists, and 24.9 rebounds. They hit 527 threes.

    TAKEAWAY

Both teams make us playoff teams with much improved outside shooting. One gives us a very deep rotation of bigs, one gives us more flexibility financially.

Unload two of the worst contracts in the history of Western civilization in one deal?

Serious question - for a friend:

Would Ilyasova or Gallinari be a better fit for this team?

3rd option Bogdonovic.....less injury prone than those 2 you mentioned and i feel he can be had cheaper 10-14mill range. If all we're looking for his a stretch 4 that does nothing else. Illysova has proven twice now he is a contract yr performer and Gallo is mr. Glass

Without trade, Noel is the best available.

So Mozgov is..gone then? Because unless Zu is traded he's the backup to a "quality 5 center" and that leaves a very expensive bench rider in Moz.
