    Meaning of immigrant:

"A person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country"

I'm sure both meant well by calling slaves immigrants, however I can not buy that interpretation. The meaning says "a person who comes". Black slaves didn't come anywhere. They were occupied and forced. Which, therefore, needs to be a different word to describe it if there isn't one already.

Our society has become this scathing, ratchet, interpreting everything in a demeaning way society to where you can look at anything now and assume someone is saying something derogatory. However, I like to think more on the side of truth and common sense. Slaves were not immigrants. They were sold by their owners in African to the Anglo's and the Latins and the Anglo's and the Latin's did it in hopes of building the Americas, the New World so to speak. Even saying "forced immigrant" is an oxymoron. I don't know how you can interpret that any other way.

I agree. I was just pointing out the selective outrage. Both were wrong, IMO.

    Trump paid 25%
    Obama paid 19%
    Bernie paid 13%

IMO, they all need better tax attorneys. Paying too much.

Anyone who didn't think this was a ratings grab, you need to re-evaluate your mind control. Trump is by far the greatest news story I have seen in my lifetime. He has been on TV every day for a year. And now that he is President, all the cable news shows will be Trumping until the next election. It is amazing to think a guy this famous, could get even more famous. By far the most polarizing man in the modern era.

I just thought it was funny that Maddow made a huge deal out of this, released it on social media, let the world simmer with anticipation... then admitted it was from 2005... then basically admitted that it did nothing to hurt Trump or his character.

In fact the news this morning is claiming that Trump himself leaked the 2005 report as a way to get people off his back and to leave him alone. I find that doubtful, but not impossible given Trump's general lunacy towards public perception. I just thought it was funny the way the media had to spin this in order to not look like a bunch of incompetent boobs.

Well Trump is a troll, so I wouldn't put it past him.

Also, we needed specifics, like how much money he made from his businesses and who he did business with. We got none of that. And I can't stand her presentation and style.

If any of you guys watch Maddow's show before, she always takes a while to setup what she wants to say and spends like 20-30 minutes saying pretty much nothing.

Like a lot of podcasts today! Hence why I'd rather read blogs; I get all my info right away and skim past the crap.

So... any thoughts on the new Republican Health Care Plan?

Would 24 million Americans lose their insurance?
Would the elderly's insurance rates go up 750%?

I'd let Obama care go a few more years. The worst is yet to come. Let people really feel it and they'll beg for a change.

Not sure any of us were the deciding factor, for or against. Would I still take Trump over Hillary? Absolutely.

A lot of what Trump says and does I don't like, but the economy is doing a lot better and that has always been by #1 issue. Obama was overspending by over $1 Trillion a year. Trump has actually lowered the debt since entering office (about $75 billion). Unemployment down. DOW / Nasdaq are up (a lot).

As for the stuff I don't like, he's gotta get rid of Twitter.

How about stuff you don't like that doesn't have to do with Twitter? Like Health Care Act? Or, you know, international relations?

That is beside the fact that the entire cabinet, including POTUS lie on live TV or in congress, make up stories and generally behave like a bunch of frat boys?

I am not trolling, just trying to understand... Are you rationalizing or compartmentalizing these? Do they not bother you or do you think they are a creation of fake news? Do you even think these are true?

^^^ his changes to health care are in the other thread. I don't know enough about them, but he's stated repeatedly they're open to compromise.

Foreign relations: His agenda is America first. I'm all for that. Every country should do whats in their best interest (and for the most part, they do).
