I've lost my last ounce of hope for Byron. He's just an idiot. If there's 16 seconds left in the game and 16 on the shot clock, and you're down, you foul as fast as possible (other than going for the quick steal).

Players shouldn't out-coach the coach. Kobe knew to foul immediately. Kobe drew up the last play. What is Byron doing exactly?

" Hidden" tanking I guess ... I have a difficult time believing in such stupidity ...

Huh? This has been consistent with Scott's entire head coaching career...there's nothing hidden here at all.

This is just crappy coaching by Byron. There is no hidden tanking, orders from above to lose games, this is our coach, easily worse than the previous two Mikes.

That might have been the dumbest thing I've heard, what Byron said. Doesn't matter how many timeouts you have left, you do not waste time especially being down.

Doc, I know you are down on Byron, but I'm going to have argue this point. MDA was the very worst coach I've ever seen for the Lakers, bar none. Worse than Rambis, Pfund . . . way worse than Harris who overachieved for a year or two before caving with more talent. His gimmick was good enough to get to the second round of the playoffs but it was never sound basketball. Look at how we are playing this year now that we are healthy. We are in games, we are fighting and playing hard. Byron sat Boozer and it's paid big dividends for the bench and the starters. He's also finally seen the light on Kobe's minutes too, something that D' Antoni never did.

Brown vs. Byron I think could be debated, although I prefer Scott.

There is no way that Byron is a better coach than MDA.

For the Lakers I think he is by a country mile. Wouldn't be too hard.

His consistent use of players in their normal positions with their natural talents and consistent substitution patterns (aside from the same stupid over use of Kobe) ..... in my opinion balances out and gives Byron the edge over MDA being a better x's and o's guy. And the fact he can intelligently deal with the press afterward, without talking a mile a minute with mush in his mouth and stupid unthinking humor and shots at his own players. Championship coach, with good enough players to compete ..... probably not as he's then up against the Popovich's and Vogel's and Jackson's (past tense).

Edit....I shouldn't even say MDA better x's and o's. All the long chucking and long rebounds killing us with fast break opportunities for the other team, NO, even that I like Byron's system better.

Wesley Johnson at power forward. Kobe for 48 minutes a game until he blows his Achilles. His smug nonsense interviews. His insane refusal to utilize either Howard or Gasol in the post.

No one will ever convince me Pringles is better than Byron. And Byron is really bad.

Byron's mess ups have prompted to think he MUST be trying to subtly tank because there's just been so many OBVIOUS things he's missed... this is just another in the list.

Take a foul and do it as quickly as possible. There's no good reason not to.

Well, there were clearly better coaches out there for hire this past summer other than Scott; Scott is a familiar face to fans, to appease Kobe, and to be that 'bridge' coach through the rebuilding period that we're going through...

Hollins, Karl, SVG, Quinn Snyder (coaches that were available), were and are all better coaches than Scott...

To clarify: MDA = better Xs and Os, easily. Byron = more likeable, maybe better for the Lakers.

The thing with D'Antoni is that he's actually a pretty decent coach, but just wasn't right for that Lakers team. And, of course, wasn't liked by the fans.

But when it comes to pure coaching, MDA is a better coach than Scott, who can't even draw a proper play.

Kobe diagramming a play in the timeout as he talks to Nick Young and Wes Johnson...

I thought that was interesting...considering the situation/circumstances, the game hanging in the balance, and Kobe's drawing plays up...
